They are just expressing themselves to the rhythm of the song..........not necessarily identifying with the words of the song. You should be griping at Cheo for singing a salsa song and calling it guaguanco.

I say improved upon because since its inception "guaguanco, son, montuno......and eventually salsa has been improved upon. More notably in the 70s in my opinion. And at that time it just so happen that the renaissance was in New York and unbeknownst to a lot of people in the heart of Peru and Colombia as well. I understand that what Benny More, Perez Prado, Arsenio Rodriguez did while pioneering this music form. But, I hate when people try to deny what Fania did to improve upon that.
OK, do I seriously have to listen to every Cuban comment on the origins of salsa music? Salsa was originated in Cuba (with a HEAVY African influence). GOT IT!!! But, the revolution that transpired in New York and Puerto Rico can't be denied. I feel as if they just took it and made it that much better. Listen to some Peruvian and Colombian salsa too. Others just improved on it. GET OVER IT.
@lhaire i am not sure if Pizza Hut improved the original pizza from Naples. But a heck a lot more people consume Pizza Hut pizza.. same goes to current salsa.

To "me" (again, my opinion) I think it's better than original Cuban salsa. "Maybe Pizza Hut isn't better but yet more consumed"........but a lot of other things (cars, airplanes, scuba gear....etc) are not only used more - but it is now BETTER. A lot of people prefer the new york derived sound to the original cuban bands, a lot of people prefer modern cuban timba to NY sound. the only fact is that New York sound is more americanized,commerical, less "afro" than the product that comes straight from the island. In cuba these rhythms are culture, in new york and everywhere else theyre a novelty...so you gotta understand where cubans are coming from when people use their music and rhythms and just do whatever with it.

I would imagine Dominicans feel the same way about the bastardization of bachata into this modern day, side to side, grind fest on the floor by Americans. But, that's what happens. The same thing happened to Jazz and Rhythm & Blues with Rock and Roll, Rap etc. Things get morphed over time and take on their own separate identity. I know and respect the roots...but as a dancer prefer a more modern sound.
The thing is, the "modern" sound that you speak of, is actually 60s, and 70s arrangements, so, quite old I would say!! "Modern" cutting edge son-derived music (i'm gonna refrain from saying salsa here) is what they call timba in cuba.Its big in europe, but hardly gets airplay in the US because well, everything cuban is banned lol. Also, it's very hard hitting and not traditional at all (fuses jazz,hip hop, etc..) so the "traditionalists" (all the on2s) don't care much for it.
if your opinion on improvement of music is rerecording old tracks over and over (oscar d'leon and fania made a killing with old aragon, benny,matancera and matamoros songs) and making the arrangements SIMPLER (getting rid of the walking bass that arsenio brought to the table, taking instruments such as guiro out of arrangements) renaming the music "SALSA" so that the poor poor people wouldn't have to take time to understand the different rhythms, then i feel bad for you.
If you name a video "esto es el guaguanco" and you're dancing something completely made up, you're gonna get criticized, simple as that, call the video new york style or whatever. Like someone naming a video ballet and dancing hip hop in it, what's so hard to undersand about that?

La verdad es cierto, lo vi muy rapido, y es el titulo de la cancion, pero da lugar a confusion, por el modo de publicar el video, pero aun siendo lo que convencionalmente y mas alla de discusiones conocemos por "salsa", con todos los estilos que tiene, gusten o no, igual, la verdad, no la pegan mucho tampoco, es la verdad, porque les falta sabor, que algunos suplen con tecnica, gustos aparte, cosa que aca no muestran, no hay cadera, no hay cintura, no hay caribe corriendo por las venas...
