i seen this at the movie thearter in 1981 with my father and 5 yr old brother. i was 10. it is the most amazing movie i've ever seen. the sound track makes me want to grab a sword and just start killin!!!!!!!!!!!!!
@NetVoyagerOne i figured that part of the epic is that through fate he found an even stronger sword than his father's, in the tomb. if he had his father's sword all along, he might not have been able to defeat the priest of thulsa doom.
i also thought that destroying his father's sword might be an allegory for becoming a man--he must "kill" his father in order to take his own place in life.
@NetVoyagerOne He throws down his fathers sword because he got his revenge. His entire life was based on getting back at thulsa doom. Once he killed him he threw down thulsa dooms flame showing the orphans that they are now free to live their life. After that he throws down his fathers sword because because Conan is finally free to live his life aswel. His revenge is complete. Just as how the orphans lived to follow doom , Conan lived for revenge. Now they are both set free and can put it behind
This is one of the greatest kinds I heard. It was like while the followers of Thulsa Doom went away, Conan thought, "Why did I kill him? Maybe he was my father? Maybe he saved the world? So now I am a weak orphan?" And when he sees the princess, he slowly burns the temple, and goes to seek new adventures in the west. Many wars and feuds did Conan fight, honor and fear were heaped upon his name. In time, he became a king by his own hand...and this story shall also be told...
@terminator324343 i think Conan snapped out of the whole hypnosis thulsa put on him when he saw his fathers sword. After slaying thulsa doom he had no purpose in life. His entire life was revenge. Now he had to think what he was going to do next. With valera no longer by his side and no clear goal in life he sat down to think. Aventually he decided to become a king by his own hand. That's how i think it is.
I love the scene where Conan is sitting on the steps in deep contemplation a few rows from Thulsa Doom's severed head. Getting revenge was the entire meaning of his existence up until that point and he's probably just thinking "Well, now what?".
@sneegro Thulsa, indeed, created what Conan is now, now he must feel like he hast lost another father, an evil father but the one that gave him the will to survive and to get his revenge; he must feel very weak and empty at that moment on the steps, having lost that will to seek revenge. Brilliant scene, what a way to end the movie, If only filmakers or producers had the guts to pull another scene like this in nowadays movies...
I heard the first half of this gorgeous amazing piece in a completely different kind of video that was full of really beautiful pictures of amazing things, and Orphans of Doom made it all even more beautiful, so of course I had to come here and I loved it.
what an amazing tune.... i cry almost all the time at the end when this song starts. But then i get revigorated with power when listening the credits song!! Basil Poledouris simply amazing work!!
@rukus100821 The only other film scorer I can think of is Ennio Morricone, but Morricone predates Poledouris and is great in his own stature; I'm sure you've heard his score for "Red Sonja".
I listen to this music on its own minus the show and it has a real unique sound that makes one think beautiful pieces. The dune soundtrack is pretty cool to by ToTo.
OMFG!!! Now THIS is how you score the end of an epic!!!! This gives me chills down my spine thinking of how he swings that latern of fire and throws it at the temple!!!! CLASSIC!!!!

I never understood why Conan abandoned what was left of his Father's sword. I would have kept it forever.

That was a powerful scene, Doom's followers seeing he's just a man and turning away, Conan fulfilling his quest...this track perfectly fit.
