LSD was developed in Switzerland in the late 30's... its not American in any way. but it does sound like you had to be on SOMETHING to actually listen to this music...
@superpyromaniac id argue that it is american in the sense that an entire culture was raised around the use and availability of the drug. there was also an acid explosion in the UK, but they never had their dennis leary's, preaching the face of god in a microdot. they also never had owsley lsd, ken kesey, or the merry pranksters. in that sense, i would say that acid is something entwined with american culture, and as such, became american. (and i enjoy acid house sober. chew on that)
@aenimate dude theyr not even talking about LSD theyr talking bowt ecstasy. not sayin that nobody during the acid house boom was on acid, but acid use was massively dwarfed by the use of E. HENCE the incredible gurns in this video. the reason it's called "acid-house" was because the UK tabloids originally got it wrong and thought they wer on acid; nobody had heard of ecstasy back then, and the tabloids never do research! America can have its acid revolution; we Brits are the children of Ecstasy.

You all think it's funny, but I got a condition called Czech Neck, from taking too much Cake in the 90's, I was a proper custard gannet..Please kids, use your cheese box and say NO! NEVER!
I like how they call it acid house in the lead in, yet they are listening to Front 242. They should at least know what freakin music they are criticizing.
I was into the music, the 303's the 606's, the analog loveliness of it all, then for some bizarre reason a new bread of "cunt" arrived with whistles and simplistic minds chanting the same toss, might as well have worn a swastika, a group clot of dumbness.. then i found out its all because of that wanky fucking TOTP tune where people chanted "aciiiiiiied" the mantra of the moron, they destroyed it for you, many went 'underground' but even today shit house persists in chav-music nights, horrid.
"There were drugs everywhere and nobody tried to stop it." I Bet no pissheads were fighting each other and no-one was glassed/beaten up for interveneing in a fight or raped though were they?
I wish i was there. Cant believe how they demonise ecstacy, a drug proven to be safe when it is pure and compared to alcohol is 100 times less dangerous. Makes me real angry. Al kids my age (18) want to do is get pissed and listen to justin Bieber.
I was in the Forces in Germany and remember watching this on forces TV.....We where already going to House Music Clubs around North Germany however when Acid House hit the scene went full on and i got my dance moves to Acid from watching this news piece!!! ;-)
Its frightening the amount of propaganda the british media subject us to. Funny how the two boys that supposedly died of Mephedrone were then found to have none of it in their system but the BBC et al just sweep it under the carpet without making clear their errors in reporting. Scaremongers
So funny how it's been reported. I've seen a lot of party's. "underground" as well. Weird to think of m8s being pushers and stuff. It's just about having fun. Biggest danger in the use of drugs is being uninformed or not having people around you who are.
Luckily, the rave continues, otherwise I would've missed the boat. One love!
Sounds like hell.... those evil acid house rave organisers leaving their 'tickets' in record shops to be picked up by innocent firemen and advertising executives... what is the world coming to? :-(
Brandon Block at 0.16! must be, at least between then and 93 you could enjoy raving.....due to good gear! im now am a qualified goat herder and have nine kids!;)
If only they knew what we know now!! Rave was a new outlet....this report makes out like the 60's & 70's never happened....the rave scene was late by my clock. I have had the best time getting off my face in clubs...and hold a great career...most of my mates are the same....it's all good bruv'!!
how can you be for 'TECHNORAVE', and still talk shit on house? it all comes from house man, it's where it all started. not saying you have to love it, but at least have some respect.
@saintnickXIII No man, House comes from Techno (and disco, as Technorave10s says) The sounds from Detroit "travelled" to Chicago in a Roland 909 that Derrick May sold to the people from Chicago as he didn't have money to pay his flat.... For more info read Techno Rebelde (Ariel Kyrou) :) Acid House 4 evah
Well to be honest Juan Atkins was making prototype Techno as far back as 81 under the artist name Cybotron, a good few years before Derrick May got started. Also Jesse Saunders wrote a track called On and On in 84 which is the first Chicago House track so its pretty close.
An Indian Bollywood album from 1982 has just been discovered as well, which could possibly be the first Acid House record. So it goes back even further still :)

and to add- i find it HILARIOUS and pathetic when chaps like that douche british old "medic"or whatever claims to know anything about the effects or possible dangers of acid when he hasnt even tried it.this goes for all"drug experts".acid is unnadictable physically and does even less harm than alcohol or tobacco if pretty much any exept exhaustion.i dont even call it a drug.i call it an enthoegen,a tool of self exploration and deepened concioussness.the key to setting youself and your muse free
@actyme Dont come on here saying drugs are alright to take. no matter if it is taken in moderation they still mess you up. this was in the 90's when this report came out. do you wanna see the stats of 2010? now some of the people in this video are dead or homeless. drugs are never right.
@rekaepa friend, drugs are like money- only as good as the user. I personally never felt the urge to clasify substances on the levels of moral structure, which is quite hip in the consciousness of modern anti-drug zealots. Drugs like coffee with a horrendous health profile even when compared to cannabis is welcome into the home and the lifestyle of modern people- not percieved as "fucked up" to use every morning. This is simply that we value certain states of mind and we fear and suspect others.
@actyme ill have to disagree. soon you will become dependent on these substances. I dont intend to watch that happen to the next generation. Who here would like to have a Doctor explain to them that their son or daughter has the brain of a 5 year old? i wouldn't
id put the health and safety of my kids before mine. fuck the Euphoria that you get from being high.
But opinions are opinions who am i to try to change yours right?
@rekaepa I'm not asking you to agree, friend. And by saying "these substances" you assume i do lots of drugs, truth is i don't. Dont drink, dont smoke either. I'm just saying the whole "drug morality" is a pretty modern and vague concept. Sure, when someone, usually uneducated on substances and therefore lacking inner discipline, fucks themselves up its very sad. But its wrong to asume everyone is going to and wrong to establish the system we currently have. we are not criminals. tolerance :)

it's called don't believe the hype by mister e according to a post lower down...think that must be the one to look for! gonna have to go crate digging for that one!!
Branson at the time time owned Heaven, a big club in London. He allowed Oakenfold to run his Spectrum monday nighters there, then it became Land of Oz when the The Scum (Sun) did a story on the drugs there.
HOLY SHIT that second track is a remix of Join in the Chant by Nitzer Ebb...I remember reading somewhere that EBM was strongly influenced by Balearic Beat, or vice versa, and then you've got bands like Psychic TV and Excessive Force mixing house with industrial I guess...
If you want to hear an amazing re-work of Nitzer Ebb's Join in the Chant, track down Join In The Chant (Knarz Is Machine) by Thomas Heckmann, good stuff
Cuddy, what the hell are you on about? Acid House may have been a flash in the pan but it gave birth to a wider movement and was the Godfather of the sub genres that exsist today. I refuse to believe that you do not realise this?
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
smug fucking smelly ravers thought they were gonna change the world, how long did acid house scene last 2 or 3 months I can't quite remember, but its a bit poor that not one of the scruffy bastards had the bright idea of beating the shit out of the DJ and getting thier money back
I wish I was there. But it makes me angry how the government was making all sorts of crap up about ecstasy, just to discredit the whole scene, just to take control of a harmless pursuit.
A bunch of old fogies bitter cos they missed the first summer of love in the 60s. Look at their faces though. Bunch o' ugly gurners haha! You need drugs to enjoy acid house for more than an hour lol. At least with dubstep, you don't need drugs, its all about the sound (although most dubsteppas are stoners)
it was a weird time, i was 18 and not really into taking drugs so i actually found the whole thing hilarious especially how acid house grew so big so quick. still i have some great memories.
this is so lame that they try to associate music with drugs. You can be sober and still enjoy acid. Its like when elvis started singing all the uptight people that didn't understand rock and roll saying "oh this will make all the girls have sex prematurely its satins music bla bla bla bla." its just music. its a good thing.

It's also funny how one music style, Acid House is used in larger context to describe whole rave culture.
Of course back then it was a same thing for a little while because acid house main genre which was played at certain type of parties.
But soon there was that "hardcore" which had broken beats etc.. which was never my thing.

What the hell did Richard Branson have to do with it???

HOLY SHIT that second track is a remix of Join in the Chant by Nitzer Ebb...I remember reading somewhere that EBM was strongly influenced by Balearic Beat, or vice versa, and then you've got bands like Psychic TV and Excessive Force mixing house with industrial I guess...
Sorry...just a had a lil geek moment there...

I used to secretly listen to acid house at the time when I was full on into hip hop.
There's a song by Mr E called Don't Believe The Hype which uses lots of samples of this news report. Also features an early Steve Coogan as well.

At least with dubstep, you don't need drugs, its all about the sound (although most dubsteppas are stoners)
automat3000 3 years ago
it was a weird time, i was 18 and not really into taking drugs so i actually found the whole thing hilarious especially how acid house grew so big so quick. still i have some great memories.

Shut it, dubstep wouldn't even exist without all that. Latecomer =) =P =P

DJbasic:
The second tune is 'Join In The Chant' by a band called Nitzer Ebb.
I dunno what mix though - the original isn't quite that banging! It's a famous tune tho - there's several videos on Youtube...

"Don't you think it's wrong to sell drugs?" the interviewer says. Why don't you go and ask that question to people who run the big breweries?

this is so lame that they try to associate music with drugs. You can be sober and still enjoy acid. Its like when elvis started singing all the uptight people that didn't understand rock and roll saying "oh this will make all the girls have sex prematurely its satins music bla bla bla bla." its just music. its a good thing.
djgiga 3 years ago 5
I get such a mental high out of such music. I don't even have to move; my mind goes floating and yet no traces of drugs...
