  • My friends dad bought it for 30 bucks way back when and now I play it in my band Times New Roman.

  • What's the synth underneath the SH?

  • I just bought a mint condition one of these for $60 what a steal :D

  • @new01 HOW?!?!?!?

  • @bjcsupertortoise my friend's cousin bought it off a coke head for $10 and had no use for it so sold it to me for $60

  • @new01 Wow, that's pretty good

  • a flock of seagulls uses it in the i ran video. but he fakes playing chords with it...lol. duh. mono synth!

  • just picked one up!

  • In 1982 this was my first synth. It is very limited.

It has no separate filter envelope, the amp and filter envelopes are combined.

It has only one oscillator. It was good for a first synth but I ended up giving it away.

But then that was 1982, I remember seeing the Flock of Seagulls using this in a music video. That helped me decide to give it away.

  • I GOT ONE FOR SALE

  • Around 3 minutes it started to sound real Drexciya !!!

  • 1:41 sounded almost like a 2a03 chip, but with a bit more fire-

  • Keith Emerson only put dagger blades into ONE of his old, beat up Hammonds, NEVER his good ones. And he NEVER abused any of hi moogs. They were pretty expensive back then as well.

  • @plungerdrum in Verona, Italy, he smashed a Mini during a show in the early 90's

  • @cagnacciocane Damn. I guess when you can easily afford things like that, you can get away with smashing them. Why did he do that? Well, I know that he never abused his Moog modular.

  • maan! i have a roland and i havent been able to make these kind of sounds. i now realize it has so much more potential than i thought and that i need to work this amazing synth out more

  • i still want one of these so very bad...

  • Nice, now I want one to.Keep up the good work, like the wobbly character.

  • I like these sounds. Thank you for sharing!

  • remember how rock stars used to smash uo their guitars in front of the crowd as part of the act... you never saw new romantics doing this with their synths?

  • Unlike guitarists, keyboardists are smart enough not to do such a thing. =)

  • I just spent £1000 on my new Roland. I've done my first electro gig. What shall I do? hmmm

    I know! I'll DESTROY IT!!!!!!!!

Not a bright idea, especially if you're on a low budget like me XD

  • get a moog!

  • Apparently Thomas Dolby used to smash up guitar-style worn SH-101's and Keith Emerson (allegedly) used to put dagger blades inbetween his Hammonds and Minimoogs

  • bastards. didn't Rick Wakeman burn his mellotrons?.....

  • Fuckers. Too bad they didn't get toxic metal poisoning from it.

  • @GNeuman no wonder the analog synths are so expensive nowadays :P

  • @ARUK1 Well, depends on the player and the guitar. KISS' Paul Stanley has money to burn, and his signature Washburns aren't the most expensive guitars around, they are not too sturdy either. Pete Townshend had a few cheap plywood tele copies as stunt guitars which were meant to break. If you try to perform the guitar smashing act with something like a Gretsch Electromatic Duo Jet Pro, you'll end up destroying everything EXCEPT the guitar.

  • I like these so much more than the SH-101's. The 101's just aren't capable of doing as much. The 09 can do some great stuff.

  • ah, but this isnt an awesome keytar... :P

  • 'Awesome' and 'keytar' should never be used in the same sentence. They've never looked cool. ...never.

  • opinions, mere opinions

  • they sound cool to me.

  • Awesome sounds, thanks for the video! :)

  • i had one of these at my college they're awesome

  • I like the Analog stuff ;-)

  • those early old rolands sure are cool. built like tanks. its funny how the individuality ended up disapearing from modern synth. alot of them trying to chase the same sounds.

  • Yes

  • Does the SH-9 have portamento?

  • Nice sounds (and playing). I have friends who are heavy into Moog, but my personal sonic preference has always been towards Roland (I have a JU-2). I see your's is, too!

  • Sounds the music for peewee's playhouse

  • Not bad for 1980

  • Excellent timbral exploration!

  • Gorgeous sound
