my mom taught him for years at the lakewood equestrian center. he uses things that she taught him, the dollar bill trick to keep your seat up was her. haha its crazy to see someone become one of the best when you knew them when they were just starting out. i havnt seen matt in years though. if anyone talks to him, ask him about michele bloomquist.
Matt Mills rocks! I met him at Reining By The Bay in 2008 and he signed my Outwest Stallion Station hat. :D
I adore the way he trains, on a nice loose rein with a very responsive horse. Easy Otie Whiz did beautifully under him and I'd do anything for the chance to ride with him. :)
To rein a horse is not only to guide him, but also to control his every movement. The best reined horse should be willingly guided or controlled with little or no apparent resistance...
I like this trainer, but something in his training is not so good, for example start of circels, when the horse have hid head up and down and up and down and after that he go to galop. It's no good, i think...
dang he was changing leads nicely. i cannot wait to go over lead changing with cody(my Horse) he is a Bronse Medal Champion in Reining. You may know this amazing horse called Joe Cody. Well thats Codys Grand Father. Codys full name is King Coffee Klegg. I love riding him. Even though he is going to be 20 this year he is in good condition responds to everything except lead changes.
What an amazing ride. The horse was so responsive. I loved the lead changes. They were absolutely perfect. I wish I could get my reiner to respond as well as some of these horses.
If he wasn't positioned like that,it would be ten times harder to cue the horse and stay on,trust me, my reiner is so responsive, I have to be a little stiff so that I can be EXTRA carful about my cues. If I was completely relaxed, my horse would be so confused because she wouldn't know what my sloppy body position would be telling her. Anyway...just wanted to clarify that and I'm sure that on other horses, like any GOOD rider, he will change his position to accomidate the horse and it's cues
Well, I don't need to be that stiff on MY reiner. He's just as responsive as that horse. I love Shawn Flarida though =D My good friend went to train with his brother Mike Flarida. Both SUPER friendly people.
your really good... i want to learn so bad, but i stick with barrels for now

I think hes got an awsome position...relaxed, but he's staying out of the horse's way. I think hes doing a bang up job.

OH and one more thing... having a RELAXED body position is TOTALLY different than a SLOPPY position.
I just want to clarify that.
:]

eww I hate Matt Mill's position. He's always so stiff.
Nice horse though =]
