@MrTraumata : En serio? Me estás jodiendo!!! Y para arreglar el gpu no se necesita hacer un reballing que es complicado y caro? Todavia funciona? Que mostraba tu pantalla?
The guy's a living legend - check out Arthur Brown (musician) on Wikipedia - " two bystanders doused the flames by pouring beer on Brown’s head, preventing any serious injury."
@adrs2 The chips packages are ceramic and offer a great deal of protection. Have you even seen a circuit board assembly plant? They bake the entire board to get the solder paste to flow. It's fine, it works, so what if it's a bit crude. It makes a cleaner joint than a soldering iron ever could.
that's stupid. Temperature to melt tin is bigger than to destroy most chips 85-135 celsius. Tin melts in 180celsius. When You solder with high power u put about 200celsius for less than 1 second on spare legs, then the temperature spread and chip don't get more than 50, so it's safe. It's so easy to resolder chips just some resin powder or fluid and you move the soldering tip straight trough all traces.
@tangnatalaga it wont i did this with out any protective pan thingy i used a blow torch in my neighbors garage and they onley thing i half to say is i'v sent back my macbook pro to apple and im still using my ibook g4
@vogelek23 .... You people are stupid. It's to re-flow the solder that's placed underneath the video chip. This is almost exactly what Apple did if you send in your iBook with a video problem.
for people who dont know what this is. it is basically the same exact thing as what happend to the first xbox 360's. solder gets soft then it it just soft enough to re connect.
actually the 3rd one is actually pretty messed up right now, it does the rrod thing periodically just waiting on it to permenantly rrod then calling up microsoft
its odd because it makes alot of sense xD its almost as wierd as the virtual boy repair The virtual boy repair for the visual units require you to put the pieces in oven And it works o.o lol. Anywho I havn't had a problem with my ibook I think im lucky. I have a PC, Im a gamer so I need a PC lol. Macs are great for school or basic work :D amazing for video editing etc I only got a g3 ibook so yea i use it for school :)
This worked for me! I did it with the computer running too. i had the lcd open and when the temp got hot enough, the solder re-melts and my screen magically came back to life. I couldn't friggin believe it.
This was a common problem with iBooks. The graphics chip had a faulty solder, so if you put a heat source (like a fire) on the chip, it would melt the solder, which would cause it to "reflow" into a working position.

50/50 chance of it working. adding a shim worked for me...for a little while. I can't get it going again and I'll never buy apple hardware again after being quoted $1100 to get a replacement board.

hot foil rework station?
ccmtor 7 months ago
There is nothing to lose by trying this. When the chip comes detached from the board, its done for. So you minds well try this.
Al though id recommend covering the rest of the laptop and motherboard with tin foil first.

What's even funnier is that while this person complains and complains and calls the uploader stupid...
The laptop works perfectly now.

Don't do stupid things like this. You're going to ruin your motherboard/logic board. There's a lot of really bad advice on youtube - it's scary.
Read the Q & A at PrecisionDivision . com to learn more about why you shouldn't do things like this.
At least he's honest at the end of the video and says "Don't try this at home"

If you honestly try and reflow your solder connections this way, then you are really, really stupid.
Either use a professional BGA reflow machine, or use a heatgun.

It is called the Soldeirng reflow technique, basically I guess you can say heating it up would reconnect the solder joints, etc. It really works.
