I recall seeing this clip on WGBH [ Channel 2] somtime in the late 50s or early 60s. Being an educational TV station, they would show Vince playing one song in order to fill in the time slot to the next hour of time and then commence with another program. This is his composition and it shows his significant ability to create beautiful music. Thank you for the posting.
One of the best jazz pianists ever! We lost him too soon............people just know him as the guy who performed the Peanuts soundtrack. He was so much more.
I can't believe I'm seeing this man play. Oh wow! He's one of my all-time favorite artist. When I was a kid, of course, I was exposed to the Peanuts TV Specials and from then on I just fell in love with the music, his style and techniques. He's irreplaceable as far as I'm concern. I remember at one time as a kid I was going to run away from home & find my way somehow, somewhere to San Francisco. It wasn't too much later my friend's brother told me that he had passed away a few months earlier.
Great Vid, Thank you for posting a classic like Vince Guaraldi. The guitar sets the feeling for the rhythm and then takes a solo over the piano that becomes the ryhthm. Great give and take, nice conversation. Xcellent !
After listening to his music for so long, seeing this video is akin to using the sense of sight after being forever blind. To watch these two, especially Vince, is such a treat. Thank you, seriously. Thank you over and over again!
I have to agree with what everyone else is saying here. What a true Musician. Sad that today there is more garbage out there like Lady GaGa and M+M instead awesome music like this. All I can say is, is there any more video's out there?
Thank you danders3 for posting this - I've never seen Vince Guaraldi perform live, and now seeing him on the fly, you can see why the peanuts cartoons became such classics. good on ya
Sophomore year in high school in Lafayette, Louisiana, listening to A.M. radio, "Cast Your Fate to the Wind" comes on --and like so many others I've been permanently hooked on Vince Guaraldi ever since that moment. There's no words for the guy's musical coloration --it just hits that one spot like nobody and nothing else does.
I just think this is fantastic. VG's playing sounds like rain drops falling from heaven and the combination of both is pure magic. I know this sounds a bit gushing :-)
5 minutes of pure jam-awesomeness without the slightest sign of fatigue, lack of rythm of discomfort. You can tell in a brief second that both of them love what they are playing for you ;)
Incredible. I'm with @dcstudio - speechless with pleasure. Thank you so much for posting this. It's amazing to see the man perform. I'm just filled with the obvious joy he brought to the piano.
I am speechless--I have never seen a video of Vince--omg! can't tell you how much of his music I've covered over the years. (most of my vids here are of me trying to cover him) I'm a pianist/teacher--and he has been my favorite since I was a kid. Dad had all his records. I can't thank you enough for posting this--went right into my faves. This is BEAUTIFUL!!! TY TY TY!!
Wonderful. Vince's playing is even more incredible when you consider that he was playing with a splint immobilizing one of the fingers on his left hand! (You can see it pretty clearly around the 4:00 mark.) I never would have guessed from listening...
Fantástico. Outro músico brasileiro esquecido e estigmatizado.

Vince's cultural empathy for Brazilian music is pure joy and love!!
And it's so rare. IMHO only Stan Getz and very few other non-Brazilians have been able to achieve such a deep affinity to the Bossa Nova.
Bola Sete - I loved him and his guitar at first sight, when I heard him 1964 in an Oakland club.
