In these first minutes of the game, the argentinian midfield does not do a good job. It loses too many balls trying to go forward too fast. Everything was set up by Stanley Rose, then the FIFA President, to give England a big chance much greater than fair to win the Cup. But, MadMax is right, Argentina could have done better and cleaner. Before that game, Mexico lost 2-0 but had two chances of scoring against England, Argentina with much better players should have had eight or ten chances, but the argentinians decided on a strategy of anti-football. Onega and Mas were a lot of good players to be used in time wasting.

This is certainly one of the most controversial matches in World Cup 1966. The Argentinian captain was ejected, almost inexplicably, by the German referee.
