That don't make sense, Rolfe is english played by British actor bale, yet he's putting on the American accent in this film and Smith is also English but Colin is still on his natural irish accent
@patgarrett5755 It's not like he gave her that name and refused to call her anything else. She CHOSE to take a Christian name, before she met him in fact. He was just calling her by the name she was going by already.
Truly love this scene, the innocence, the tenderness, the silence. I'm kinda glad that they used an underaged girl to play the part of Rebecca b/c the movie would have been Totally different and wouldn't stand out like it does.
@baguetteball HE has this "unattainable" air of being surrounding him, it's like he is TRULY the character he plays, and when not he's rarely caught in gossip or magazines, so you don't really see him till his next movie, so I feel sometimes like he is this reoccuring fantasy in motion pictures, not a real man.
Cause honestly there are no men like those in books we read, so I suspect that it's better this way, or else I am afraid I would be disappointed after meeting the real man.
I think the fact that she was only 14 forced the filmmakers to make the interaction between them respectful and innocent. Had she been older, they would've been all over each other and that would've seemed out of place for the time period.
I loved this movie. I loved his patience with her. His kindness to her as she struggled to get over what she thought was Smith's death. Even after he married her he did not rush or push but let her get used to him. Even with the chance of losing her to the newly resurrected Smith he put her happiness before his own. And was greatly rewarded when she reallized that it was he, John Rolfe that she loved.
@CrazyGood88 Question.Did she really chose him because she loved him the most, or was it due to a sense of duty and propriety. I mean this wouldn't be the first time a woman chose her husband over the man she found passion with & who was her first love.BUT, it wouldn't either be the first time that a woman realized that what was is in the past & since both her & her first love changed, & she truly loves her husband
@TheGuardianizz According to the filmmakers they said that Pocahanotas loved John Rolfe. I personally believe she did choose to be with Rolfe because she loved him unconditionally & he did the same with her. That scene where she gently grabs Rolfe's arm & rubs her chin againts it speaks volumes. It's even more evident when she softly whispers "my husband" then kisses him on the lips. When she pulls back there is smile on her face. I definetley believe it's true love! :)
i think any girl would wish a guy who wants to show his love for u and wants you to trust him...this is why my love for Christian Bale has increased a lot. He made the part really amazing...he made me swoon a lot
Men don't talk that talk anymore! lol How I wish I had been born in the 17th century.. lucky Pocahontas!! If only she knew what the women of my generation have to endure she would understand that maybe, in despite of the plague that killed her in the end, as far as love is concerned, she was indeed born in the right time. A time where apparently men hadn't learned coward cynicism yet.

Coming from a British woman like yourself your comments are laughable. British woman are mannish, crude, sexual sluts, have no home economic skills, treat the british men like garbage. The British men that are smart are marrying foreign women. Why would a man want to marry a Katie Price/Harriet Harmon type of woman. Even this Rolfe chose an American Indian.
Plus even though I'm not a British woman, I can assure you that any of my English lady friends is more of a woman than you in all your generalist ignorant crap will ever be able to handle!! Maybe the British woman who broke your heart in the past was a slut, but the British women I know are a lot better than you as a person will ever be... coz to begin with they're not frustrated haters!!
I am Portuguese, but a man who talks like that of any woman is very well introduced himself, indeed!!
Women are women, they are mothers, sisters, wives... regardless of their nationality or native background, they're all worthy of respect, and if you can't be a man enough to respect women, then you are no man, period! And on a final note, if you weren't so busy hating them to begin with, because of whatever mommy issues you might have, maybe you would have already found one for yourself!!!
Wash your bloody mouth before you ever, ever dare to talk about any female specimen like that again!!!
love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.
i loved how in this movie he was so dedicated and patient with her the rest of the movie. even when she wanted to go to london to visit the king he was patient and eventually won her over when she realized that she loved him and not john smith-colin farrell-
This is one of my favorite moder-day period pieces. I thought Q'orianka and Christian were an excellent on-screen couple despite the age gap. Such tremendous actors with an abilty to give such heartfelt performances. And this was a lovely scene between them. He's trying to proclaim his love to her and insist he can be trusted. She on the other hand is still grieving and isn't certain if she has romantic feeling for him. Terrance Malick is poet in this day and age.
Omg,she got to live out one of my most hottest fantasies: Me,Christian, alone in the wilderness, except with lots of mad ,hot, passionate lovemaking omg *sighs*
Aren't peruvians desended from taichino indians? Because some Mexicans and most other latins have native american features becuase they're at least mixed. THat nose for sure as hell doesn't look spanish.
Yes, it's in the version that you own. It's not a deleted scene, and she does say that line. I'v memrized every single line in thsi film, it's not a new line at all.
The film is REALLY good, but its slow and poetic: you have benn warned. Bale portrays John Rolfe and the girl is Pocahontas (the actress was barely 14 when that was shot)
yeah, so the director cut out some of the love scenes, because that would've been just too scandalous. she's not a real native though. she's peruvian-american.
That don't make sense, Rolfe is english played by British actor bale, yet he's putting on the American accent in this film and Smith is also English but Colin is still on his natural irish accent

& her second love is stronger.
