the first song "Ghsot Riders" by Johnny Cash inspired the parody "Ghost Chickens" which in turn inspired the Doors song "Riders on the Storm" (the 2nd song here)
@QueenBeatlesWings Actually, "(Ghost) Riders in the Sky: a Cowboy Legend" (as is its full title,) was acctually writen in 1948, and sung by Burl Ives before Jhonny Cash
This an instrumental combination of ghost riders in the sky and riders on the storm. The first part is riders in the sky and and then some riders on the storm and then back to finish with riders in the sky. The rendition is pretty good, with short bits of brilliance, particularly in the riders on the storm portion in the middle. Recommended listening! Good job, California Guitar Trio!
hmm, seems to me like your a little late on the upkeep there pal. maybe next time, before you correct someone, do it sometime CLOSE to when they posted it. i posted my comment due to the fact that this vid did not say "a medley, or a combination, or anything else in that matter", it simply put the song titles together.
Yes, the song, Ghost Riders In The Sky, was on Blues Brothers 2000, and was a pretty darn good version. Also, The CGT did another version of this song that was a lot cleaner, and a little longer. Possibly an album version? It was played on Deep Tracks.
Hell yea. For those of you that still don't get it. This is a great combination of two songs. The song Ghost Rider In The Sky by Vaughn Monroe and The song Riders On The Storm by The Doors. This is wonderful. Did they play Ghost Rider In The Sky in Blues Brother's 2000, or was that another Raw Hide? Someone refresh my somewhat glazed memory.
Hey they're gonna be in Lincoln NE this wednesday if you live around here! They'll be at the Rococo Theater downtown March 11 starting at 8! I believe tickets are only sold at the door though!
It's actually called "Ghostriders", I have a version by Johnny Cash, I'm not sure if he did it originally, though. Yeah for those of you who didn't listen to the whole thing, it's a medley.
I wouldn't hazard a guess what made Jim and Ray tick. I just know they ticked pretty loud. Yeah, I'm sure they were big into C&W. Listened to Hank Sr. while reading Oedipus. I can see it.
I must say that I was unfamiliar with this re-working of these two standards. I'm profoundly impressed! The tempo change was dramatic and strikingly so. It served to emphasize the distinctions between the tunes. Against the grain of some others, I feel that, if anything, the "Ghost Riders" part might have been a tad faster, but by no mean am I complaining. The warmth and intimacy of three splendidly played acoustic guitars speaks volumes. Please, gentlemen, keep 'em coming! True artistry!
To Danny Desperate-unfortunately, you are not gettin it. CGTrio is not out to shred like Di Meola or to demostrate perfect classical technique, although I am sure they are perfectly capable of doing both. Watch/listen to their Circulation Prelude (keep in mind they are alternating each and every note between the 3 of them-amazing!) or "The Marsh," or listen to a cd, or better yet see them live, and you will see three guys playing together to create a unique singular musical soul. Pure magic.
I really enjoy the memories brought back by both songs being played this way. I thank the band for 3:12 minutes of absolute bliss as I walked down memory lane.
So, folks, if ever you wondered why electric guitars were invented, now you know. If purgatory is listening to one strummed flat top in a folk club, watching three of them jangling away politely on two harmonically challenged modern standards is surely eternal damnation... Walk Don't Run should be in your face, not up it's own ***.
Tepid, toneless, tuneless and tedious. It's not funny and it's not clever.
Now where's that Django CD (for real acoustic SOUL)??
lol, try and stop sounding so pompous for a second would ya? i'm no particular fans of these guys either, but i also don't act all superior :P .. i'm sure i've found much better acoustic masters than django and all, but meh, you'll probably never get past your gypsy jazz stuff
No you haven't found 'much better acoustic masters' than Django, you are being silly. I'm not stuck on the past, but Django (like Bach, Mozart, Duke, Monk) set a gold standard that this stuff fails to even approach.
I do agree there is excellent more recent contemporary ac. guitar music - try String Trio of New York or Shakti. However, it is probably too 'far out' for most youtubers who prefer their music bland - and, jeez, there's plenty bland to go round here!
While you make some good points, your attitude is just too muc to bear. You insult this piece of music, but then one of the guitarists signs-on and agrees that Django is a master. So my question to you is this: Instead of trying to be so cultured in guitars and guitar music, why not just enjoy the track?
You ask, why not enjoy the track? For the same reason I don't enjoy scampi - nomatter how technically well prepared it may be it remains BLAND!
IMHO music needs to take risks, challenge, entertain and move yer feet (preferably all at the same time); this does none of these things.
Besides, Whitley Bay's own legendary teenage sensations 'Bicycle Clips' did this kind of light and poppy guitar trio thing much better back in '75 - and Master Halton even doubled on sax to mix it up a bit.
Shep79, it is useless to argue with Danny Desparate as it is obvious he is an "expert" and has formed his opinion of our playing based on this extremely low quality video upload of one of the silliest songs we play. And without ever actually hearing us play live, he passes judgment on our tone and musicality. It is interesting how these comments in general posted on youtube say much more about the person commenting than the thing they are commenting about. Paul - CGT
I have to agree with Paul, my fellow guitarist on this point. It is easy to pass judgement on us without hearing the clarity and acoustics live, rather than a relatively poor 1 dimensional recorded version of it. We don't claim to be the greatest players in the world, although we're definitely up there, we're just having some harmless fun, so leave us alone god damn it. Jeremy - CGT
Acoustic! Now that is real guitar!!! No "fuzz",no trippler, no electronics. Just (in this case) a man and a REAL guitar. I thought the art was lost. Thank you for restoring my faith!! =Stefan=
Great job on one of my favorite songs -- but let's re-title it correctly: Ghost Riders in the Sky ... bridging into Riders on the Storm ... and back again.
