Ho hum, the good old days of Atari vs Intellivision.
Now how about this. The PS3 has Blu-ray. The XBox 360 doesn't. That's the equivlent of what the war was back in 1980, if that enviornment was implimented today.
@Trance1972 when nes was dying down in the late 80's to early 90's when the came out snes and genesis man 8bit to 16bit atari was dying down so they made all sorts of bad systems like atari 3200 or watever the bad system was you had a choice on those 3 systems i got both genesis and snes street fighter 2 and mortal kombat thats all i play man i wanna play atari 2600 the game was so innvation and all the earlie game systems was all pong consoles nothing else to go from pong to atari
@Trance1972 man i wish i can own all the systems that was made from 40 50 years ago to the present day and have a store so people can relieve their childhood dream and ill make kids understand that atari was the one who made games what it was today
Billy Martin: "Hey, it's baseball like baseball should be played" as he's saying that the catcher who had the ball waiting for the runner to slide in to be tagged out inexplicably throws the ball to third base allowing someone to score! Yeah that's great baseball strategy! LOL
Huh! The graphics were no where near as good as Intellivision's.
Don't get me wrong, Atari's sport games had good gameplay, but the systems graphics proved to be limited by the early 80's.
To see what I mean, compare Atari 2600 Popeye to Intellivision Popeye. Both games are "Popeye," but no where near similar.
There was only one system of who the Atari 2600 was superior to, and that was the Odyssey 2 by Magnavox. Otherwise, Intellivision and Colecovision both had better graphics.
@adog262 On the other hand, the Intellivision apparently had a clone of the Atari "Frogs and Flies" game that looked a lot better, but suffered from control issues. Wouldn't know personally.
BACK then this was as realistic as they came....I still have this game. I remember getting it for Christmas...Now I play PS3 MLB 08 THE SHOW...Wow, what a long way it's come.
Interestingly, Martin is wearing his actual Oakland uniform in this spot; usually atheletes/coaches wear generic unis in commercials. (Knowing Billy, he probably threatened to beat the crap out of the director if he couldn't wear his A's jersey.)
There's a neat double meaning in this ad when Billy refers to "that other guy" as the one "who just *talks* baseball." George Plimpton, the "other guy" referred to, was a noted sportswriter before becoming Intellivision's pitchman...

@JDonahue79 Or how about "The X Box 360 has games you've heard of. The PS3 doesn't.".

Who cares about Blu Ray? Nobody buys Blu Ray movies anyway, they still buy DVD.

Real Sports was the best. Press the button and joystick up to steal, if I recall...

Obviously the people at Atari told Billy there was a 5th of Jim Beam in the joy stick and all he had to do was push the red button to pour.

This was a pretty good game. I liked Super Baseball better though it came out later in the system's life.

Being this game is made in 1982, Billy was still managing the A's before he went back to manage the Yanks in 1983.

Billy was born to make commercials. Very charming and funny.
I guess this commercial must have been made in '81 or '82. Didn't Billy get fired from the A's in '82, or maybe early in '83?

@TheKid965
Double meaning?? It''s a staight-forward shot at Plimpton and Intellvision....you couldn't mistake it for anything else at the time.
