Gently clasping your dog's muzzle doesn't show your dog that you're a "benevolent, but firm leader." All you do is confuse the dog. Why do you assume that the dog understands that "hand on the muzzle" means "no barking" when you haven't taken the time to teach him? Your dog doesn't learn anything from this scenario except that sometimes for no reason you grab his face. There are so many better ways to do this (positive conditioning, interrupters, etc).
My 65 lb. Windhund just learn the word shut up!! lol just whenever she barked i would yell shut up, and when she did, i would throw her a treat, but only when she was quite.
my dog might get his vocal cords cut if i don't learn how to control his barking :|

wat about if you dog barks at people and other dogs from the varanda and your not home when this happens?
