it's only running at 800 because of windows 7 power settings..when the cpu isn't being used extensively, windows clocks it down..you can turn that setting off, though. you can also turn off cool 'n quiet too.
@stok3d99 but why is that when i check my bench mark like what he did here in 1:22, i still got the same result? 800mhz. did he changed the power setting? thanks for your help.
@robertkrosl dude what i have is phenom II x4 965 BE. like what he reviewed here, but we have different core speed. its really annoying me. thanks a lot...
I can't believe that AMD did not make their AM3's a pinless design. why not I wonder. It worked so well for Intel LGA 775 Socket Intel Core 2 Duo and Quad series.
Do you prefer Intel over AMD or vice versa. I prefer Intel still even though AMD is clearly starting to give them a run for their money. I don't particularly like Asus boards. I had bad experiences with Asus in the past. I prefer MSI, Intel, and Gigabyte.
@joecobra1234 lol this is a high end quad core which can be unlocked with about an 70-80% chance just like the abilty to unlock the phenom ii x2 555 BE into a B73 or just a triple core processor
What kind of Power Supply Unit would be recommend to power a Phenom II X4 965BE processor? How could I find out if my motherboard is compatible with this processor?
@WhiteSugarFive no they both have there +'s and -'s. honestly i think amd is better for gaming and intel is great for like multitasking a bunch of stuff like media and things. but not saying intel isint good for gaming either or vice versa on amd. but in the end if your looking for gaming anything that has more than 4 cores is pointless becuase no game requires more than 4 cores so all the extra cores are just sitting there doing nothing.
@WhiteSugarFive so really it just depends on your preference in the end some people have good and bad luck with intel and some people have good and bad luck with amd.

@Lazertag44 wichever suits your pocket,i5>phenom II when it comes to preformance but, the phenom II is much cheaper and brings preety decent preformances,so as i've said, wichever suits your pocket.
window 7 Ultimate only supports maximum of 2 cores which Im still wondering why ppl go for quad cores or 6 cores...because the maximum quantity of physical processors of a PC that Windows supports is: 2.. So pls do explain this, pls tell me quad core or 6cores works if it only supports 2.. Im using the AMD quad 965 BE myself
i have this processor and the temps rise dramatically when playing games... in a couple of minutes it reaches 55-60 C... it also makes a lot of noise... i use it with the stock cooler... is it normal?
If you use the cooler and fan that came in the CPU box, then the answer is very likely "yes".
Invest in a quality aftermarket cooler (with fan included) from companies like Scythe or Xigmatek. It will cost you from $30-40, but noise and temperature under load will be definitely less.
i have a litle bit confusing bout this proccessor.. Its 3.4Ghz processor but why when im install to my PC ,its just show 800mhz¬ 3.4Ghz? could any pro give me hints or solution plz..
If a modern CPU has nothing to do, it will reduce its clock speed. That's perfectly normal and actually a feature technology, AMD calls it "Cool'n Quiet", Intel calls theirs "Speedstep".
Give your CPU something to do, then check its speed again.
Disable Cool N Quiet in the bios and the CPU will remain at 3.4Ghz at all times. With Cool N Quiet enabled, the CPU runs at 800Mhz while the computer is idling. Once you put some load on it (like for example when you fire up a game), the CPU will run at its full 3.4Ghz.
yeah, really. did you even do what i told you to do? If disabling cool n quiet fails to fix the problem, update your motherboards bios to the latest version. Doesnt matter if you motherboard supports Phenom II CPU's, if the bios revision doesnt, it wont work.
your reveiws and unboxings are awesome!!!!!!!!!!! I have a question though! I bought a xion 800 watt powerreal PSU and had read really good reveiws prior to buying it, then i saw a few bad reveiws. i am building a gaming rig with 2 GTX 460 768mb videocards, 8gbs of corsair xms ddr3 1333 memory, amd phenom 2 965 black edition processor, 1 dvd rw drive, one 2 tb harddrive! will this power supply be sufficient??? My mobo is MSI nf750-G55. Please answer me! pls! once again your reveiws are AWESOME
@PyroPortrayal Hey thanks alot!!! l still havnt found out if my PSU is continuous or not but the website u sent me to said that i only need a 650 watt PSU! i have another question! Do u think based on the specs i gave that this will be a good rig for gaming????? and thanks again for answering!
I do believe you are going to fun have a fun time! Based on those specs it compares nicely with mine, which is doing an amazing job. WoW at ultra 55-60fps in raids, mw2 at 90+ fps maxed out at 1680x1050 etc..
However, watch your bottlenecks, you may want to consider 2 hard drives in raid 0 or something similar to that, but really, that built should eat up anything you throw at it.
@PyroPortrayal You are correct!!!! Finished building my system a week and a half ago and so far theres nothing i cant run at maximum settings with smooth frames! Thanks!
I am upgrading, would you choose this over an intel i5-760, 2.8GHz. I want to mainly use it for photoshop, Adobe light room, Sony Vegas and general stuff. im not a hardcore gamer, so it is not too important. just want it to be fast and be able to handle anything I throw at it. What would you recommend?
I'm seriously thinking about getting this CPU but I'm not sure that it will work well with my graphic card. Someone at the store told me that my graphic card is not good enough to support this CPU and i wont be able to use the CPU to it's max. is this true?? my graphic card is an radeon hd 3800, its 512mb, the core runs at 680MHz, it has a bandwidth of 53GB/s and a texture/pixel fill rate of 10.7GB/s.
Plz respond to this as soon as possible, i really need some advice. Thanks!
@M4nimal more and more games are optimised for quad core. Dragon age: origins benefits from a 75% performance increase from "comparible" dual core models. Bad co. 2 also benefitted greatly (100% increase). I was considering a phenom II x2 550 BE, but with more and more games optimised I'd rather go for an OC'ed phenom ii Quad.
Hi PCWizKid, I'm just wondering if you were running the CPU on a stock cooling fan and heatsink or did you apply the CPU with an aftermarket cooler? Thanks.
@Jaschar60 Phenom II 965 x4 runs at 3.4 Ghz stock. The new 970 came out, but all it does is run at 3.5 Ghz stock. A bit of a waste esepcially when you can overclock the 965 to 3.5 Ghz with no trouble.
@Jaschar60 Its not to hard to go to the amd website :( and the best of wat energy saving? game? programa? casual? bechmarks? So many things you need to answer your self before you buy any cpu if it is a amd or intel. The best cpu can be crap if you don`t know what you need.
never gna but intel yea my first pc was fast as hell it was p3 800mhz but now the prices are wtf not worth it im just gns buy amd plus iv herd amd is better for gameing
@BassPounderX AMD USE to be better for gaming people seem to over use that phrase. back in the day AMD was better because it would take the load for the weak GPUS of back in the day. Now Intel pumps better power but for some reason they are charging ridiculous prices although for gaming the AMD and intel cpus you should get are about the same.
btw .... can some one pls tell me about this.... i dont have any specialised fan for the processor just the normal AMD...my pros is 3.4black edition.. and have a m4a88td EVO ASUS mboard...i tried to overclock to 3.74 and it works... but now i cant go back to os default... i always have to adjust when the com is on.... does any body know how to reset back to normal...cause im afraid overcloking my proocessor will pretty much reduce lifespan
@KHONObakayaro What did you use to Overclock? Did you use AMD Overdrive, or did you do it in the BIOS? Also did you simply crank up the multiplier, and/or the system bus?
@KHONObakayaro Just leave it at 3.74Ghz, that's awesome by auto over clocking, just get water cooling and OC it even more lol. As long as it doesn't go over 60 degrees on high, you should be fine.
Can you overclock the 955 BE version without adjusting the HT ref clock? All i've done with mine is adjust the voltage to roughly 1.488 volts and changed the cpu multiplier to 19x to get 3.8ghz from 3.2.
Whats the disadvantage of not changing the HT ref clock or ht speed for that matter?
The 965 and the 955 are better at benchmarks than the Phenom X6! I'm not sure what to buy... I want to buy a better CPU than my Athlon II 620 before Christmas. I heard that AMD will bring out before October two new 6 Cores CPU! The Phenom II X6 1035T 2,6 GHz and the Phenom II X6 1045T 2,7 GHz! I'm between 3: Phenom 955, Phenom 965 and Phenom 1045T! What should I buy? I know much for computers but I'm confused now... Better gaming or faster applications?
@WolvesDominationGR I have the 955 and I have it overclocked it to 3.7Ghz (only increased the voltage by 0.025) being cooled by a Noctua NH-D14 (one of the best air coolers).
@WolvesDominationGR Just get a 965BE, it's pretty cheap and as good as an i5 which cost a bit more. Most games still use 2 cores so quad core is the best option
@Awayze just dont waste money on those stupid 6 cores LOL my friend went out bought the new intel 6 c0re and was braggin to me i was like bro you bought 6 your using 2-3 tops by time your even able to use the 6 cores for anything theyll be at like 12 cores and youll have ran out and bought that like a moron.
Whats the name on the overclocking software ?

@Lazertag44 wichever suits your pocket,i5>phenom II when it comes to preformance but, the phenom II is much cheaper and brings preety decent preformances,so as i've said, wichever suits your pocket.

to be totall honest, AMD are the same as intel, yet, amd cheeper, would go for amd on a gaming rig.

window 7 Ultimate only supports maximum of 2 cores which Im still wondering why ppl go for quad cores or 6 cores...because the maximum quantity of physical processors of a PC that Windows supports is: 2.. So pls do explain this, pls tell me quad core or 6cores works if it only supports 2.. Im using the AMD quad 965 BE myself

i have this processor and the temps rise dramatically when playing games... in a couple of minutes it reaches 55-60 C... it also makes a lot of noise... i use it with the stock cooler... is it normal?
sebiandrei2008 1 year ago
@sebiandrei2008
If you use the cooler and fan that came in the CPU box, then the answer is very likely "yes".
Invest in a quality aftermarket cooler (with fan included) from companies like Scythe or Xigmatek. It will cost you from $30-40, but noise and temperature under load will be definitely less.
Eibelsfeld 1 year ago
@Eibelsfeld yep i use the stock cooler... i got used with the noise but i find it quite odd lol

Anyone here.. need help
i have a litle bit confusing bout this proccessor.. Its 3.4Ghz processor but why when im install to my PC ,its just show 800mhz¬ 3.4Ghz? could any pro give me hints or solution plz..
AbeNicxs 1 year ago
@AbeNicxs
If a modern CPU has nothing to do, it will reduce its clock speed. That's perfectly normal and actually a feature technology, AMD calls it "Cool'n Quiet", Intel calls theirs "Speedstep".
Give your CPU something to do, then check its speed again.
Eibelsfeld 1 year ago
@Eibelsfeld oh Yea? Thanks anyway pal..

Im not an uber pro computer guy. But the 800mhz is what something else runs at. It should stilll be 3.4Ghz though
PreciseArrow1 1 year ago
@PreciseArrow1
AMD (TM) Cool N' Quiet...
Karmelloo 1 year ago
@AbeNicxs
Disable Cool N Quiet in the bios and the CPU will remain at 3.4Ghz at all times. With Cool N Quiet enabled, the CPU runs at 800Mhz while the computer is idling. Once you put some load on it (like for example when you fire up a game), the CPU will run at its full 3.4Ghz.
ndogg360 1 year ago
@ndogg360 Really? Thanks anyway pal..
AbeNicxs 1 year ago
@AbeNicxs
yeah, really. did you even do what i told you to do?

PyroPortrayal 1 year ago
@PyroPortrayal Hey thanks alot!!! l still havnt found out if my PSU is continuous or not but the website u sent me to said that i only need a 650 watt PSU! i have another question! Do u think based on the specs i gave that this will be a good rig for gaming????? and thanks again for answering!
GTechQuest 1 year ago
@GTechQuest
PyroPortrayal 1 year ago

Thanks!

Which possessor is better Core I3-530 or Phenom II X4 965 BE for games like Team fortress 2 and starcraft 2 with a HD 5770?
TheMrMeff 1 year ago
@TheMrMeff
very few games use all 4 cores efficiently, one of the best bang for buck options would be a phenom II x2 black eddition with a massive overclock
i3-530 is really not a good gaming cpu considering value / performance
M4nimal 1 year ago
@M4nimal more and more games are optimised for quad core. Dragon age: origins benefits from a 75% performance increase from "comparible" dual core models. Bad co. 2 also benefitted greatly (100% increase). I was considering a phenom II x2 550 BE, but with more and more games optimised I'd rather go for an OC'ed phenom ii Quad.
fenderkid6 1 year ago
Hi PCWizKid, I'm just wondering if you were running the CPU on a stock cooling fan and heatsink or did you apply the CPU with an aftermarket cooler? Thanks.
Roochfan20 1 year ago
PCWIZKID I AM GONNA BUY A ASUS AM3 slot BOARD WHICH IS THE BEST CPU FOR AM3??? PLLEEEEASE ANSWER!!!!!!!!!! PLLLEEEASE!!!!
Jaschar60 1 year ago
@Jaschar60 Phenom II 965 x4 runs at 3.4 Ghz stock. The new 970 came out, but all it does is run at 3.5 Ghz stock. A bit of a waste esepcially when you can overclock the 965 to 3.5 Ghz with no trouble.
dBlocInsanity 1 year ago
@Jaschar60 Its not to hard to go to the amd website :( and the best of wat energy saving? game? programa? casual? bechmarks? So many things you need to answer your self before you buy any cpu if it is a amd or intel. The best cpu can be crap if you don`t know what you need.

never gna but intel yea my first pc was fast as hell it was p3 800mhz but now the prices are wtf not worth it im just gns buy amd plus iv herd amd is better for gameing
BassPounderX 1 year ago
@BassPounderX AMD USE to be better for gaming people seem to over use that phrase. back in the day AMD was better because it would take the load for the weak GPUS of back in the day. Now Intel pumps better power but for some reason they are charging ridiculous prices although for gaming the AMD and intel cpus you should get are about the same.
feeblemind 1 year ago
btw .... can some one pls tell me about this.... i dont have any specialised fan for the processor just the normal AMD...my pros is 3.4black edition.. and have a m4a88td EVO ASUS mboard...i tried to overclock to 3.74 and it works... but now i cant go back to os default... i always have to adjust when the com is on.... does any body know how to reset back to normal...cause im afraid overcloking my proocessor will pretty much reduce lifespan
KHONObakayaro 1 year ago
@KHONObakayaro What did you use to Overclock? Did you use AMD Overdrive, or did you do it in the BIOS? Also did you simply crank up the multiplier, and/or the system bus?
HypnoticSuggestion 1 year ago
@HypnoticSuggestion
im using turboV EVO which i think is in the BIOS... AND I CHOSE AUTO TUNING... I SELECT FAST TUNING...just wondering how to get back to normal
KHONObakayaro 1 year ago
@KHONObakayaro Just leave it at 3.74Ghz, that's awesome by auto over clocking, just get water cooling and OC it even more lol. As long as it doesn't go over 60 degrees on high, you should be fine.

any recommended cpu cooler? instead of water cooling

Hey PCWizKid
Can you overclock the 955 BE version without adjusting the HT ref clock? All i've done with mine is adjust the voltage to roughly 1.488 volts and changed the cpu multiplier to 19x to get 3.8ghz from 3.2.
Whats the disadvantage of not changing the HT ref clock or ht speed for that matter?
FubuMushu 1 year ago
So that means im not getting a PC with crap on it?
coms758 1 year ago
The 965 and the 955 are better at benchmarks than the Phenom X6! I'm not sure what to buy... I want to buy a better CPU than my Athlon II 620 before Christmas. I heard that AMD will bring out before October two new 6 Cores CPU! The Phenom II X6 1035T 2,6 GHz and the Phenom II X6 1045T 2,7 GHz! I'm between 3: Phenom 955, Phenom 965 and Phenom 1045T! What should I buy? I know much for computers but I'm confused now... Better gaming or faster applications?
WolvesDominationGR 1 year ago
@WolvesDominationGR If you're gaming, get the quad. The hexacore is only good for multi threading.
crxgun 1 year ago
@crxgun Now I'm between 2: 955 and 1045T! I read that 955 can be more Overclocked than 965 and it can be better!
WolvesDominationGR 1 year ago
@WolvesDominationGR I have the 955 and I have it overclocked it to 3.7Ghz (only increased the voltage by 0.025) being cooled by a Noctua NH-D14 (one of the best air coolers).
crxgun 1 year ago
@WolvesDominationGR Just get a 965BE, it's pretty cheap and as good as an i5 which cost a bit more. Most games still use 2 cores so quad core is the best option
Awayze 1 year ago
@Awayze just dont waste money on those stupid 6 cores LOL my friend went out bought the new intel 6 c0re and was braggin to me i was like bro you bought 6 your using 2-3 tops by time your even able to use the 6 cores for anything theyll be at like 12 cores and youll have ran out and bought that like a moron.
