To say that Islam is a religion, is not accurate. It is much more. and to say that it is a Religion of Peace, is not very accurate considering the Declaration of Killing Non Muslims.

What a fantastic woman! She's one of my heroes. Worked her way up through the ranks from cleaner to student, to party member, to member of government, written books, won awards, able to speak five languages, and passed laws to protect women. I agree with her views of Islam and Muslims there are good Muslims (Nasser, Bhutto, Assad, Saladdin) and bad ones (Mullah Omar, Ayatollah). Some people are such wack jobs, if Allah has a problem with a film or a cartoon, I'm sure he can look after himself.

I must admit that I agree that the eastern Muslim countries have a great misinterpretation of Islam in terms of women rights. It is not in the doctrine, it is in the interpretation of the doctrine by the religious leaders who are in charge of passing the mentioned onto the followers of the religion. In the place I live Muslim women never wore head covers, they have always lived an independent and emancipated life. And it is mainly because of the interpretation of the same doctrine

She ends her book by noting that some people have told her that her criticisms of Islam are too aggressive, but goes on to say that the pain oppressed women suffer is far worse. But do all Muslims have to be constantly insulted in order for women oppressed in the name of Islam to find relief? According to her atheist dogmatism, religion is the bane of all existence. And so despite billions of peoples intimate, meaningful connections to their faith tradition, it is perfectly okay to insult them.

Criticism is legitimate but condemnation is not. Ayaan is misinformed, hateful and hurtful. Her personal experience whilst horrific cannot be used to generalise that experience to1.6 billion Muslims with negative stereotypes that Muslims are foreign, oppressive and violent. Stereotyping leads to harrasment. Muslim women with hijabs have been verbally and physically attacked in our community. No one should be subjected to abuse because of their religion.
