I had always figured it was a MOD or other tracker file that used some of the extra data to drive the images... but if it falls out of sync then I guess it's not timed to the MOD data. Makes me want to bust out ScreamTracker or Composer669.
On my 486 the word "Witan" spun ay too fast and the music seemed to lose sync with the visual elements. Its similar to Renaissance's "Amnesia" during the Virtual Reality (sic) part, on a faster machine it just flies along.
SWEET! I haven't seen this in years! Even a 486 was too much for this demo (would run WAY too fast on a 486/66), and MAN was it a pain in the ass to even get this demo to run on a computer at the time! Definitely the most finicky demo I've ever tried to run on my PC. Runs great on a 386 25-40, anything else, forget it! Also needs lots of free base RAM. I couldn't even get this going under DOSBox tho Amnesia does work under DOSBox.
I'm running it on a 486/66 right now as I'm typing this, with 8MB RAM, Sound Blaster 16, and aside from the SB settings, my config.sys and autoexec.bat are vanilla (MS-DOS 6.22).
I finally managed to resurrect a friends old 386 and got it running. I never could get it to run right under DOSBox. I have a 386 DX 25 or 33, cant remember which, and turning off the L2 cache in the BIOS, I can get it CLOSE to proper playback speed but not quite. At the very start of the demo when the word "Witan" zooms in and starts to spin, the drum-beat starts right there and the words should spin 1 revolution per beat. That's how I remember first seeing it.
Man! I loved Facts of Life mainly for that section. I remember having to reconfigure my IRQ on my ?Sound Blaster? just to run it... since it didn't support the Gravis Ultrasound. The music rocked for the time. I didn't see it on the Mindcandy DVD (Renaissance Amnesia is on Mindcandy though, and I love the opening theme to that as well). Thanks for the memories!
It is on Mindcandy... but it's hidden somewhere in one of the menus as an easter egg. I usually put on the DVD just to hear this song over and over.:)
Wow, looked for this by chance... Could not believe anyone would have this part uploaded when I can't even find a box on which to run this. Stunning... girlfriend can't understand why I am grinning, I have not seen this in 10 years...
I loved this demo. The soundtrack and visual technique were way ahead of their time. Amazing composition - thanks for the inspiration!

There are still old scene members around :) Who are complaining about a demo from 1992!

@michawtn A pleasure to meet someone from that team! This is by far still one of my favorite demos!
You guys need to get together and make a 2011 remix of this part!

this was one of those demos that inspired me to track. I was with kosmic (kfmf) for awhile under B00MER.

You have to contact Jeroen Tel of Maniacs of Noise for that!

Great !!! Thanks. Such a good memory.
Where is the intro part? (pseudo 3D, which worked much better once I had upgraded my ISA video board to a Vesa Local Bus). Oh yeah.

The other parts won't start in dosbox, so maybe i will try another way to encode these parts for youtube.

Runs just perfect for me. :P

Thanks for sharing that as this can hardly be run on newer PCs. Anyone know if the song is a remix from old school dance music?

(Just to clarify) It's on Side One, on the page displaying the first six demos - it's hidden in the navigation bar.
