@IAmARedSpecial Finding classes can be hard... I was searching for 2 years before I finally moved somewhere that just happened to have affordable classes. If you can't find belly dance... do you have any local Zumba classes? I don't know much about Zumba, but from what I've seen it can at least get you moving in the right direction. Also, if you have the FitTV channel, check for when a show called "Shimmy" comes on. It's one way to learn some basics without spending extra money.

Rachel is my belly dancing muse. I am so happy to see her ad for the Serpentine dvd and I'm thrilled that she doesn't hide behind baggy pants/skirts. I have had such a problem learning while not being able to see the movements and positions of the hips, knees and feet during the lessons. Thank you Rachel-my dvd should be here by the weekend!

It might be difficult and probably not recommended for an absolute beginner that never danced before as there are other DVDs that would be better for teaching beginners (Such as Amira Belly Dance 101 and Jenna's Basics and Beyond), but it isn't impossible to use. It would probably just take more work/practice and may be a bit harder.

I am now 22 and teaching and professionally performing. I have had no official training. Just check out vids and check out gypsy caravan vids u will learn proper technique from them. CHECK OUT YOUR LOCAL COMMUNITY CLASSES!!!! Chances are that there IS belly dancing in ur small town but u never knew it!
