@weisen1984 I wouldn't say there are any melancholic feelings... it seems more wistful to me (at the end). Elgar wrote this as an engagement present to his wife, so hopefully he didn't mean it to be melancholy! ;)
@jazzflutist Her violin is a Guarneri Del Gesu...considered to be even better than Strads by some soloists. It's the camera recording that makes her violin sound like that. You should listen to some of her other videos on youtube...the tone she has with that del gesu is just outstanding
See her live to judge her properly, dont go by youtube videos recorded on digicams.
I saw her at this performance in february 2010 and also this april at the royal festival hall playing bruch. Astonishing violinist I can assure you !!
Chang's pianist should be a person of Color, not just another boring privileged straight white christian male. People of Color, specifically those of African heritage, are marginalized in euro classical and should be getting these jobs.
@dawg00000 that couldn't be more irrelevent and it's assuming a lot about the pianist. Besides, having a white pianist isn't discriminating against colored people in the least.
I saw Sarah playing the same melody by sir Edward Elgar at the end of the Concert tonight at the barbican ,it was the pick of the evening by far !!Sarah was playing with Andrew von Oeyen on the piano barbican and I think it is very possible from the loving looks they gave one another that they may be dating one another !!
i was @ barbican too. they have great harmony together, near perfect synchronisation! well i thought the second half of the concert was somewhat better than the first; she played the franck sonata with much more emotion~
I absolutely adore and worship Sarah Chang as a performer and wonderfull human being ,but I must admit that I am not an expert on music and I found the Brahms in the first part of the barbican very ''Technical'' no sort of rythm or tune to me and I was in the circle and thought that in the first brahms that the piano was too loud making it hard for me to hear violin playing .I found the piece by Theofanidis totally dull and tuneless ,yes Franck and Elgar best by a mile !!
yea i absolutely agree with you; i was in stalls but still the piano's somewhat too loud, especially during the first piece...and i found the Theofanidis had a too modern feel, didn't compliment well with the rest.
my dad brought me here

I find the instrument itself rather strident and squeaky-sounding (compared to a Stradavarius[sp?]) but nice playing all the same.
