  • impressive

  • You look like a wrestler in speedo's and kneepads :D

  • Is there a good way to train yourself to do this exercise while minimizing knee pain? I want to learn how to do this!!!

  • How old are you Steve? If you don't mind me asking.

  • Those are some insane pistols.

  • awesome, giving the rest of us guys something to look forward to.im 40 and these give me hard time.i think its time for me to put more effort an get serious about doing these.

  • I've never seen anyone in such fantastic shape - ever!

  • Where was this taken? Looks beautiful.

  • I made a video response I hope you approve it because you inspired me to reach my level in one legged squats!

  • Talk damnit!

  • I love this exercise,

  • Im a fit guy, but struggle to do this. This gay is hard!

The most annoying thing is that my 120 lb blonde wife can do it easily!!!!!!!!!!

  • @jimmymc1234 lol this gay is hard. Sorry, had to point it out.

  • @CyberianSnow no one else did....

  • @jimmymc1234 well it is the internet. Don't feel so offended.

  • pretty

  • naked warrior lol

  • what should you do if you can't do a full pistol yet?

should you just stick to regular squats till you have the strength? or is there a particular method of progression?

    thanks

  • @RodrigoVanilla93 Sit on a chair, explode up with one leg and then just sit normally. Repeat on both legs of course.

  • my knees hurt just looking at it; very impressive

  • Are you wearing a thors hammer?

  • if you already have to wear 2 knee bandages...you really shouldnt do this m8..

  • Lol I hear his knee cracking every rep.

  • You continue to inspire your viewers again and again, you're one of a kind!

  • steve. 99% of ur videos are awsome. my biggest question is, do you do these certain squats, push ups and pull ups when you feel like it. or do u schedule em into the day?

  • I did my first pistol yesterday... these are hard!!! I was well pleased. There I was happily squatting 300+ in the gym thinking all was good and suddenly let's try a pistol... WTF!! Damn great exercise and you Sir are doing a great job.

  • Aging like fine wine.

  • The Man.

  • I just want to say that I stand corrected on the "sore knees" thing. Apologies to the amazing Mr Maxwell.

  • Awesome inspiration =D

  • @b0llx Steve could kill your ass no prob.

  • why are you wearing rubbers on your knees? did you fuck them up by doing this exercise?

  • @x454xAlucard

He's a Brazilian Jiu Jitsu player, in fact... he's a world champion black belt. Play BJJ long enough and tell me your knees are nice and perky, what with playing an agressive top game, taking shots and then getting knee-barred... Seriously... take a few classes and you'll know why he's wearing knee pads... I really doubt it has anything to with the pistols, and everything to do with the fact that grappling can be miserable on the knees.

  • i can do 10 with each leg :D

  • I hear a clicking or crunching sound when Steve is rising up from the bottom position of his pistol.

Steve- do you have any knee problems?

  • probably, thats why he has the knee braces

  • I never even tried this kind of exercise, I'll try right now... (after a few attempts) wtf I can't even do one! How is this even possible?

  • Comment removed

  • That's amazing and Mr Maxwell has an impressive physique, but he is wearing knee braces. I'm a bit suspicious of taking leg instruction from someone who has fucked his knees. Maybe his knee problems are unrelated, but....who knows?

  • @perunatic

I'm pretty sure its from his Grappling. My knees are the same way from years of abuse. They'd be a lot worse if I didn't lift leg weights to strengthen them.

  • @perunatic The sleeves are not "knee braces," but a neoprene sleeve which is used to keep the joint warm, applies slight compression, and some (minimal) support. This applies to various sleeves used for elbow, wrist, knee and ankle. Support may be more of a function of proprioceptors (nerves that provide feedback as to orientation in space) around the knee than it is of actual knee stabilization. Keeping the joint warm helps keep the joint lubricated with synovial fluid and moving well.

  • wow

  • 24 then he falls on his butt lol I always fall at 1 lolz he's great at this

  • wow, he looks hot in that speedo

  • WOW Im 24 n tired after only five of those. Steve is the man!

  • Yeah, steve is 50 years young.

  • Splendid: this man is inspirational gold. He is motivating people by his example. Question: are those things on his knees equivalent to knee wraps? I am curious because I have seen them in the store.

  • @rmsolympic1 They are similar, but not equivalent to knee wraps used for weight/power lifting. Wraps provide much, much more support and stabilization which is wanted or required when squatting with heavy loads (let's say 400+ lbs).

  • This is my absolute favourite leg exercise. You can get so much leg strength from such simple exercises it's incredible.

  • thats awsome, congrats to you

  • at my young age i have no excuse not to be training this hard. i'm inspired. tomorrow, i'm learning the pistol.

  • Great form and great core strength. This guy's my hero.

  • Very amazing, 5 stars!!!!

  • Steve is awesome! My hero.

  • i see very ways of doing the pistol but feel pain in my knees because the bounce

  • maby cauz your knees are to weak so they cant take the impact...

  • Try to watch your knees during the pistols. If your knee comes forward over your toes, then you ARE injuring your knee. I never have problems with these, except the intense workout and bad balance. But my knees are A-OK.

  • hi I training pistols for two months and hut my knees ,i ask some tips about the traninig for the pistol .how much time for full pistol about?

  • Brother. You are amazing! Great condition and strength especially at 56. At what age do you think you hit your physical peak?

  • 25 pistols! I hope to be at this level at your age! Its even more impressive considering the wear and tear your joints take from practicing high level bjj.

  • Pretty awesome show of lower body strength and balance. Please keep up the good work and continue to post more vids.

  • Thanks. Amazing performance by the way

  • Sore knees? (the knee wraps)

  • not sore, but it was cold and windy out there!

the knee pads keep the knees warm and further provide a kinesthetic awareness of where your knee is in space, making it easier to use good tracking. -Steve

  • @MaxwellStrengthCond Cold and windy !?!?!? so why without shirt and pants then ?

  • @ChrisGraeme

Once below 90 degrees at the knee, the hip takes most of the force.

besides if someone can do than many pistols each leg, no need to worry about arthritis!
