Aaah. You think about how much stuff cost back then...
A film was five cents (from which we get the term 'nickelodeon')
A bottle of soda was five cents.
A cheap pocket watch was one dollar.
A Model T Ford was about $280-$300.
A decent fountain pen was $4.
The crazy thing is...
...So many of those things made 80, 90, 100 years ago...work just as well today as they did back then. I can't think of a single thing made today that will work just as well now as it will in 100 years' time.
@Shangas...That's because in those days, quality was important. Making sure products were well made was the only way to manufacture anything. Nowadays, it's about producing items at the highest quantity and cutting manufacturing costs so therefore quality falls by the waist-side. Many times nowadays inexpensive and pricier items are produced at the same low standard.
@ladyvee7110 Hi, Yeah that's very true. Unfortunate, but true. I think we've lost a lot in pride and quality of manufacture these days. It's one reason why I buy vintage goods rather than modern ones - they last longer.
@Shangas I could answer like every immature youtuber and insult you ;) but no!
Yeah prices have changed much, here in switzerland we used to buy a pack of cigarettes for 1chf (swiss franc) and now its close to 7chf. I think in the US they are cheaper right?
@EgaoNoGenki Back then, a pen that contained its own ink-supply was considered a novelty. Don't forget that a writing instrument that holds its own supply of ink has only been around about 120 years. Because they were so new in the 1920s, they were still very expensive.
Aaron, well done. Music of course good to hear anytime but look for that olde 20's toon "Get Out And Get Under." You must have heard it. Goes right with this video. Those cars beauties ok but sadly not overall as reliable as today. If only we could have that style with todays technology.
Style by round construction, chrome, and some artistic qualities! Cars have typically been stylish but back then it was more sophisticated, now style just means triangular tailights and European styling which was a good thing in the 70's, now its just ugly.
As A Owner Of 6 1920s Cars. This Has Me Drouling !!! I Wish They Made Cars That Had This Beautiful Style Again. THANK YOU FOR TAKING ME BACK TO MY FAVORIT ERA.
What beauties!

@Shangas have you ever thought of inflation? 8$ back then are worth 80$ now..
your fountain pen of $4 would have cost $42.47!

@Zioghiro I didn't say it wasn't expensive, I was just making a comparison of how much prices have changed.

@Shangas $4 for a fountain pen? So that's $60-80 in today's money?
Nowadays, an average pen might be 15¢, and that's in today's money.
What gives?

these cars had style and still turn heads on the freeway. No one cares about the dismal cars of today. Only 20s to 40s baby!!
