@Redflameman Tina Louise wanted nothing to do with Gilligan's Island after the series ended. They had to alter her look so they wouldn't be sued for using her likeness.
I cannot believe they got the actors to do the voices on these horrible cartoons. Gilligan's Planet, Mork and Mindy, the Fonz....they got everyone to voice their own characters. Must not have been a strong actor's guild union back then!
@RomanoGiovanni The cartoons were also network projects, so I imagine the actors either got paid well, had contractual obligations, or both. But notice they couldn't get (or didn't want!) Tina Louise.
Tina Louise was a Hollywood Diva long before it became a catch phrase we take for granted today.Gilligan's Island in an indirect way, sabotaged all of their careers.I don't even know if some of them received residuals from the re-runs.
I checked and as was common in those days the cast did NOT get residuals from the re-runs. This made sense as few shows became popular enough for syndicated re-run revenue to be worth it. It wasn't until the mid 1970s that residuals became nearly defacto for TV series syndication.
My understanding was that Tina Louise wasn't on talking or any sort of civilized terms with the cast after the original series ended on CBS.She felt it was beneath her.
hmm.. it just so happens that all the same people went with them on the boat.. If I was on a boat that got torn up at sea, I would not want to go in a space ship with them!
yeah, it was pretty cheesy and awful... but MAN did I love these silly cartoons when I was a kid back in the 80s! lol Saturday mornings were never so much fun :)
I liked the Brady Bunch, I thought it was the only parody of a tv show besides Addams Family that was spot on. But yea, please don't do Gilligan's Island, it would be just as lame as the Beverly Hillbillies movie.
I MEANT to say "As if the idea of seven people from ridiculously divergent socio-economic backgrounds being stranded on an island wasn't implausable enough...
GHee Then I guess you would have to blame Sherwood Schwartz and Lou Schiemer, since they along with the late Norm Prescott (who died two years ago this month, btw) co-produced this series.
Um... Please be polite. There's no call for such rudeness, sir. Depends on what cartoons you are watching. Yes, the Saturday morning line up is horrid now, but there were good offerings on Fox around 1992, and these days alot of good anime.
I've looked for this for some time. glad to see it finally posted. I remember watching the gilligan's island cartoon(not just the live action comedy), and then this series after that ended. man, the 70s were the days to be a kid.

Interesting that Dawn Wells is listed in the credits as providing the voice for both Ginger and Mary Ann. Guess Tina Loise was the only cast member from the original show that didn't feel like playing ball. Thanks again for posting this intro, I haven't seen it in 23 years and nobody ever believed me when I told them there was a cartoon based on 'Gilligan's Island' set in another planet.
Dawn Wells got experience at playing Ginger during the original series in a show where Mary Ann hit her head and woke up believing she was Ginger. Tina Louise played the part of Mary Ann for the show. Thanks for posting the clip!
Wow, thanks for posting this! I haven't seen this in 22 years... I always thought it was a great premise, even though the plots fell rather flat. Today's cartoons are often much better, really. For nostalgia's sake, I salute thee!
I was trying to recall which was first, planet or the other Adventure one. Yep, what we wouldnt watch back then on sat morning. Heard the orig cast got the most $ from GI from these cartoon voicings. Orig 3yr series netted them very little. txs again, where'd u find it? more plez
Actually, this series aired from 1982-1984 on CBS, though it's predecessor, The New Adventures of Gilligan, aired on ABC from 1974-76, and on the Groovie Goolies and Friends as part of a syndicated package from 1978-79. Wished it were on DVD, but AOL Time Warner owns the rights to the series, sad to say. But what a show it was!
Very true. I was pretty sure Paramount had the rights though. I could be wrong. Maybe someday, if they continue on with plans to do a Gilligan movie, it will generate enough interest to push them into putting both series out on DVD. The fact that they're finally releasing the animated Star Trek series, which was also done by Filmation, gives me some small hope.
The New Adventures of Gilligan lasted on ABC from 1973 to 1976 and later on during the mid 80's both of these shows (The New Adventures of Gilligan and Gilligan's Planet) were combined in a syndicated package.
Actually, The New Adventures of Gilligan aired from 1974-1976 and was later part of a syndicated package called Groovie Goolies and Friends in 1978-1979. You must have watched both of these shows in a different tv market than I did for them to air in the mid 1980s.
this is remarkable, thanks for posting it. i remember this from the 70s, but haven't seen it since. amazing what they would put on saturday morning television for kids in those days.
Thanks for the comment. When I noticed how little Gilligan's Planet was available on the web, I had to post this. Eventually I will be able to put up a better quality version. :)
Wow, I never knew this one existed. :O

@Redflameman Ginger's hair was white on the animated The New Adventures of Gilligan's Island back in 1974 - 75, as well.

@sneezyize
Yeah,in my opinion they ruined Ginger by turning her hair white. Red hair was one of her signature features.
