Airships have considerable potential. They are extremely energy-efficient for moving heavy loads. Modern lightweight materials and non-flammable helium along with the potential of solar power make them well worth considering. Their greatest potential, IMO would be in the private sector. Having had a chanced to ride in the Goodyear blimp, I am sold on it's potential as a cruise ship for the sky.

Germany has started the Zeppelin Revolution all over again by creating the Zeppelin NT. This is like the company based one, it uses 2 motors on the outside to move around and 4 hovercraft fans to move along the ground, and I think it has 2 or 4 envelopes of helium or hydrogen to float up into the air.
