For the guys discussing the game below, Sega WANT to release the game exclusively for one console as they officially stated in a Japanese magazine Famitsu 360 (published recently beginning of this month). Not only are they interested but also SUMO digital is interested in creating the game's third installment, they even included Ryo Hazuki in the new upcoming Sonic Sega all stars racing game.......... It looks like Sega has finally made sense of what's important.

AND Yakuza 3 officially comes to the west in glorious subtitles next year! Never thought it would happen before seeing the rumours. It won't fill the void in my soul for a Shenmue 3, but it's a start.

Even though senmue was popular, sega spent too much on the development of the game. If every dreamcast owner bought 2 copies of both shenmue 1 and 2, it still wouldn't be enough to pay off the dev money. Chances are that if sega made another shenmue game, it would be even more expensive. Sega has a business to run, and going bankrupt to make an awesome game isn't a priority.

I know all about big business and how much it cost Sega to make both Shenmues. If anything, the reason the Shenmue games didn't sell so well in the US is because of the poor marketing campaign the game had. I think there's a strong enough following for Sega to make part III. It's always brought up in every E3 and Tokyo Game Show. The demand is clearly there, it's not like there's only one or two Shenmue fanboys waiting for this game, there's a lot of people who want it.

And another thing, Sega had an ace up their sleeve with the Yakuza franchise. The game is clearly a hit in Japan but when they decided to release the game in the US, there was practically NO marketing campaign done to support the game's US release. Hell, I'm lucky I even got to play Yakuza 1 and 2 given how poorly the game was marketed, if it even WAS marketed here in the states. Thank god we're getting Yakuza 3 from Sega this year. We're just steps closer to Shenmue III.

I fuckin Hate Sega now, they sold their souls. They Gave up on Dreamcast. Microsoft never gave up on Xbox they lost 2.5 Billion Dollars on the system but kept going and became profitable.

Sega has been associated with Quiting. Ruined Shenmue for all of us. Im so upset. Ryo we will never get to see you again dude, but THANKS for the memories. This game doesnt do you any justice.

@Macmittens411 One massive problem with your assessment. MS can afford to lose billions. Sega at the time, could not afford to lose anything near that, at the rate MS did. They would've went literally broke. When you're a business and you don't have money, you go for bankruptcy. You throw it all away. Sega took a safer route, stopped the presses (so to speak), and merged with Sammy, and now they're trying to become successful again.

Im not looking forward to this game at all the only reasson im getting it is because ryo is in it sega used to be my favorite gaming company but there not how they used to be they have all these old series like shenmue etc yet they continue to make sonic games which are getting even worse each game hell they have to use sonic to market this game and this game isnt even balanced theres like 7 sonic characters and 1 character from other sega games but maybe this means there is hope for shenmue 3

SEGA didn't go bust, although it nearly did. It merged with the Sammy Group. Ever since Sammy took over SEGA, it's been retarded by making Pachinko (those annoyingly loud macines with silver balls), releasing loads of yakuza games and raping the shit out of the Sonic and Metal Slug franchise. Although, deep down in my heart I want to be like a little kid with this news about Ryo making a reappearence, but i'm forced by SEGA's history to stay 99% skeptical about any Shenmue III material.
