ben brings a whole lot more to the table. the improvisations he and mike do in every concert are awesome! he's more creative when it comes to coming up with bass lines. i also like how dirk plays but ben is a better musician overall. he opened up a lot of possibilities for incubus and he fits perfectly with the band.

I think that incubus lost a very creative bass player with Dirk.He also inspired the rest of the band and came up with many of the songs on the old records. I stopped listening to incubus after the "A crow left of the murderer" album. I gave Ben Kenney a shot. He's a good bass player but he doesn't fit into incubus. Every song they had after Aclotm apart from the "hits" they had sound like jam sessions to me (which isn't a bad thing at all).The songs just don't sound as exciting as they used to.

@andrechi I disagree, I think that Ben brings a whole new element of talent and maturity to the band. In all honesty, Katunich never contributed anything beyond the occasional slapping and popping. When it comes to rythm, Jose carries it just fine on his own. And quite frankly I'm glad Katunich is gone. He and DJ Lyfe can have fun stalking people who are more successful than them.

I must disagree, Ben is a nice guy who is a talented guitar player at heart and it shows because his bass playing is primitive when compared to Katunich's technique. Albeit Katunich is not the be all end all of bass players. Now I can't speak for DJ Lyfe but Katunich left the band on relatively amicable terms due to creative differences and as far as I know has not been stocking anyone. Also practically every song from the Fungus Among Us to Morning View era was partially composed by Katunich.

You can't compare the two. One is influenced by jazz and one funk/fusion. I do think it is awesome the changes Ben has made compared to original version. But, I did enjoy hearing the snappy/poppy sound of dirk's style. Ben is just a better fit for the new Incubus. I would have liked to see Ben slap the verse of the song like Dirk did. Gave it a much more up-beat sound.
