  • I think even a middle school would be better than this scum. Right decision though to get f---k out of there.

  • lost in translation. . . just cos you're speaking slowly in English doesn't mean they''ll automatically understand what you mean.

  • Oh my god, I am glad I never had to go through what you went through. I stuck to tutoring one on one when I was in Beijing and it was fine, looks like I took the right choice!

I do have my own bad experience of teaching in China though, I got screwed out of 3 weeks pay by a private school. Love China, but it's f*cked up just now, very, no morals at all, just smash and grab, smash and grab.

  • And I don't think they give a damn about the "importance of English"... They are going to graduate with fake high grades, I don't think they'll ever need English in their lives, 'cause these big boys already had their lives arranged by the parents, why should they go abroad or even find a job?

  • @fanxunpuzi, The college has the majors of International Trade, English, or Teaching Mandarin as a Foreign Language. it is unthinkable that those students would not be interested in learning English. If a teacher repeatedly teaches me like that, I would step out too. Respect is a two way traffic. Those students paid their tuition and expected a return of a decent learning experience. There are many ways to improve the way of teaching. The teacher did not even care to know those students.

  • @fanxunpuzi, your way of thinking is strange to me. Even these big boys already had their lives arranged by their parents, knowing more English opens a way to enjoy more of life, such as watching foreign movies, enjoy imported products and culture, traveling to other countries. The assumption that those students completely lack of interest in learning English is completely false to me. Even old grandpas and grandmas in China are learning English to sell products to foreign visitors.

  • "they have relations with foreign universities" doesn't mean that they are good('cause there are shitty universities in 'foreign countries' too)and even they do, student shouldn't treat teachers like that. Don't get me wrong, teaching meodology is important too, but in such situation, what should you do? Play computer games with them?

  • transcripts.

For those students, neither eastern nor western education works, they were born to waste time and money of others.

  • BTW, I'm a teacher myself, let me tell u something in Chinese classes:

    1.Eating and drinking

    2.Play poker(The worst I've seen? Tiny mahjong!!!)

    3.PSPs, nitendos, mobilephone games

    4.chit-chat

    etc...

For those who think can handle this in a very polite and patient way, u are welcome to give it a try in China, I'm not talking about Qinghua or Beijing University, just try these 3rd tier schools with a "tech" prefix, the students there won't give a damn about u if ur class doesn't appear on their

  • Dudes, wake up! This is how Chinese education system goes...how can you be respectful in front of such scumbags? I'm Chinese, but I have to say this, they deserved it!

All the guys with the negative comments, do you know how bad can 3rd tier school students be? Have you ever been involved in such a messy situation before, I mean personally, not from TV news or your so-called Chinese jack-of-all-trades?

Emil was actually brave to take that job, I wouldn't do that if I were him...

  • @fanxunpuzi I have no knowledge about 3rd tier schools in China. Could you please provide your experiences? I have checked the university websit. It has majors in International Trade, English, Teaching Mandrin as a foreign language. They have relations with foreign universities. It is hard to image that students there don't know the importance of English.

  • @fanxunpuzi Here is the website:

    gengdan.cn

    栏目: 就业指导, 合作交流

  • "dog,chicken,asshole"

I learn these three words from my dear you who looks like skateboarder , surfer or Phil Anselmo in Pantera whatever. I want to say:mightbe you are very nice gent elegant teacher and spend your own limited time in this shit college, forget about the wages,if so you are that good enough person why you upload this video to show people this bad memory in your life. everyone knows there are some kinda of good students in good colleges, why you didnot go there?

  • @gobanbango wtf does it matter what I look like? Even if I looked like Chairman Mao or Mother effin Theresa these punks would do fuck all. I uploaded the video not because I have some wounded memory of China, but because I wanted to show how messed up an experience can be in this system.

I happen to pretty much LOVE China (not the government, jut the land and people) but if some hammerheads are going to be hammerheads I will react. Now I know there are better schools. Live and learn.

  • This kind of "University" (or you call it college or whatever) just care about money. They fucking hired foreign teachers just to show how damn "qualified" they are in teaching oral English, which the parents "want” their kids to learn. I have educated in China and Canada, and there's no doubt about the damn huge difference in the classroom. Before, in China, I was forced to learn, and after, in Canada, I was willing to learn. Dude, you've tried your best, shame on them, not you.

  • Apparently, you are naive this time.

You don't even know what level are your students before you start. How do you deserve to go well with them?

  • Comment removed

  • to their instructor, maybe they will speak to each other, but not to the teacher. Then my teacher will get mad and just call on someone's name. I think those students knows the answer, just don't wanna be the one to answer it? lol and I bet this teacher in the video didn't know the names of his students....

  • one other reason why they refuse or not interested to learn English is because it's useless to them. For so many years English language has been pushing to students who wanted to graduate from school in China, regardless wether they are gonna ever use the language after.

Anyways becoming invisible in classroom is one of chinese student's thing :D when I was in ESL, this happened a lot. most students will just listen and write on their notes throughout the class, and not speak a word

  • well, you are teaching university students like they are 5 years old kids and you expected them to admit that by following your 'kindergarden' class? come on, i'm sure you are better than that! remember: the chinese are the chinese. if you want them to do something, do not start with the easiest ones. let them know what is it like in the real western universities! and that's your job: TEACH THEM ENGLISH, not only the language but also the culture.

  • Chill man, Geng Dan college is a school of continuing studies in Beijing. It's not even an university. If you are really passionate about teaching english, i suggest you to apply for Wall Street English. Best language school in China

  • Are you qualified to teach English to nonnative speakers at university level? Do you have teaching certificate? You were insulting your students. Did you expect them to sit there and take your insult? If it is a pronunciation class, you were not really teaching it. After students left, you gave out an examination as a punishment for students who were not willing to take your insult. So it was a double insult.

  • You uploaded this video trying to show how those students were not willing to learn. But it actually shows how unqualify you are as a teacher, how insulting you are, and how much you are unable to be self-reflective. Have you ever made an effort to talk to those students in person and found out what they actually thought about your class and your teaching method?

  • is there any difference between you and the student who missed the exam?

you dont even bother to check the background of the university b4 u accept the job.

imo Tier 3 teacher in a Tier 3 university.

  • well, I asked some of my friends in Beijing about the issue you talked about, they told me that the school you mentioned is a bad school. most of the students studying over there are not able to pass the chinese university entrance examination. they don't like to study at all. I think this happens everywhere in the world. don't push them. they are not good at study but they maybe good at something else. if you really have the passion to teach. why didn't you apply a higher level school?

  • @Judson0708 cool comment. The issue was that i didnt become aware of any of this until after arrival. Then, for a period of few weeks/months I thought I could still make it work, unfortunately the dean preferred the path of least resistance and insisted on not pushing them and not having any discipline. So then I left March 1st, after I packed in some good traveling time around China. As far as seeing China, it was a great success. As far as career development, this was a big waste.

  • @monkeetime yea in China every school prefix with "tech" is for those who can't get into real universities. These schools are their parents last resort, for them. I'm not saying that there is no one in these school actually wants to learn, but very rare. "tech school" is a place to "lock" them in if you know what I mean.

  • Comment removed

  • It is unjustified to assume that all the students at certain universities are not interested in learning. Students are eager to find a job and make a living later. How could they not be interested in learning something useful to them?

  • @Judson0708, I doubt that those students do not like to study at all. The website of the college, gengdan.cn, shows that they have majors in International Trade, English, Teaching Mandarin to Foreigners. It has relations with several countries. They have students winning CAD competition in Beijing. The students need to find a job with skills. How could they not want to learn a skill if they feel helpful to them?

  • Ok, so there's problems at that school. There's plenty of blame to pass around but in the end you must either take responsibility in your role and produce change or resign when you see the red flags. That's what a professional does anyway. Judging by the way you dress, the way you react to criticism and difficult situations, and the way you addressed the class, you're not a professional. A third rate school hired a third rate teacher.

  • Oh man.... I get your point, but your class is boring and insulting! If I was paying a huge amount of money for university level english classes (and at one point I did), I would feel insulted by you asking me to spell "dog" (and im from Mexico, we don't get insulted often ha). If you say they understood what you said, then WHY are you asking them to spell "chicken!? I don't mean to disrespect you, but you should brighten up a lil, it is part of the job to find exciting learning methods.

  • @Cannafan you missed the point. i had all kinds of activities planned for them, role playing exercises, q and a sessions, etc, but the lazy fuckers just refused to do any work, precisely because they felt that if they pay so much money the diploma should just be handed to them. by the time im teaching "chicken" and "dog" im simply taking the piss, making fun of them. These assholes werent there because they wanted to learn, they were there because mommy and daddy made them go.

  • Teaching is not a easy job. I am a Chinese student at U.S.A. I saw how American students study. All they think about is parties and sports, not a lot of them want to study either. I think as a teacher, your job is not only to teach but also arouse students desire to study. Especially when you chose to study abroad, you should have understood the difference in culture. it is your responsibility.

  • @Judson0708 absolutely true. and don't get me wrong, there are plenty of idiots at universities everywhere in the world thinking only about partying and getting laid and keeping other, smart young people out of school. US, Canada, China, or Mongolia, it doesn't matter, if you go to school, you should study. Or get the hell out.

  • @dodobird44 you are a very observant person AND you apparently know how to use Ctrl+V. Excellent.

  • dude, you are a very horrible teacher, person, who can't teach, can't engage the students, have very poor personal skills, antagonistic towards students, a very hateful person who can't command respect because you do not give respect. And look at your hair, you walk around with dreadlocks like a friggin hippie, who will listen to you? do you even have a degree to teach? you look like a homeless bum off the streets of london.

  • the student looks tired

  • well... they certainly arent tired from studying. you have seen the Heng Shui Highschool video - those kids work tremendously hard for their grades, and were infinitely more active in class.

  • if you were teaching in the state, your ass prob be glue to the chalk board. 3rd world country with 3rd world teacher. Wonder if your student knows that you turn their classroom into a comedy clip on youtube.

  • The classroom is a disaster waiting to happen. I'd take the class outside or maybe to the school canteen. Everyone hiding in a booth...arghh...I feel for you mate. What a crap environment for teaching a language.

  • i totally understand you. I must admit these kids are just technically not meant to be on this earth. -_-

  • Hehehe... sweet...!

  • Of course cheating on exams is unacceptable and perhaps you are 100% right in saying that this school is a joke, but I also feel that classroom participation is not essential for day to day learning. Like you said, they paid their tuition. That pays your salary, so why not just give lessons? Oral exams are where they must speak or fail.

  • I appreciate your comment, but that is a wrong attituted. If I am paid to do the job, I try to do the job. If they dont want to learn, I cant do my job. I refuse to just sit there and do nothing. Waste of time. Blah.

  • You´r home now?

Or you want to return to China to teach again?

I pity what happened to you, what a shame...

  • This doesn't making any sense. Most of these Chinese probably already know elementary words like "dog' and "chicken" because it's taught to them in elementary. If i had a jackass teacher like you i don't know why the hell i would still be attending that class. Apparently though, they don't speak very much english, so it would be better if some one knew how to speak Chinese.

  • You are missing the the entire point. They speak English very well, just choose not to in the classroom because this is a joke school and their performance in that class counts for nothing. It's just easier to sit there and read sports mags or text friends on cellphones. By the time I am teaching them "dog" and "chicken" I am making fun of them, and trying to see if they appreciate the pointlessness of their attendance there is they will not talk. They didn't.

  • O, well then i take back calling you a jackass.

I guess that really sucks then.

  • What a horrible classroom set-up. I feel your pain.

  • I had a class like this once. Watch my video and you'll see how to really manage a class and put some discipline back into their bones!

Search "How to be good foreigner teacher".

  • urgh, looks horrible, reminds me of a local grammar school where rich parents bought qualifications for their children.

Daddie's money ran out for a lot of them and most of them can't get even the most basic jobs...

  • And that's the BEST scenario... Otherwise they DO make it to important jobs and do stupid things like adding melamine to milk powder... Why is this school still open?

  • hello I totally agree with u and I want to have your msn .let's chat together.

  • OMFG! I'm embarrassed when I heard a student yelling "fucking idiot". Oh, no. I have to say sorry for that! and I feel shame on them! I'm now feeling so sad!!!

  • I don't think they like me at that school.

  • You probably don't remember me. I was the one who was bitching with you on your "Lijiang" video approximately half year ago. But I didn't know you were then a so-called teacher, 'cause these colleges are for retarded or mental.

  • I hope dean or other staffs in the faculty can get a life.

  • But in the continent, students study only for exams.

They think only the things which will be on the test paper need their hard working.

Other things are nonsence for them.

  • I read your comments carefuly. I agree with you. But all the while you provided an explanation of the phenomenon, but not an excuse. I was brought in to this school to do a job. I was unable to. No one can expect me to just keep ignoring the problem and pretend there is no issue. I started filming the classes so that the administration could see what was going on. They didn't care. I got pissed off and left. I didn't want to waste any more of my time.

  • You said in Taiwan province, it is totally different from the continent of China.

I believe it is true. There are some reasons lead to this.

In Taiwan, where runs the capitalism, people consider more about education.

Their education systerm is nearly complete.

  • The college life is like a pool of dead water, we are getting ourselves choked in it.

(Maybe you will say it is too hopeless, it really shows part of the Chinese college life.)

  • Well, then this needs changing, doesn't it? If there is any hope for a better future it is through education. But this place doesn't offer any.

  • Why don't you just go back that highschool in hengshui,The students there are amazing.

BTW.Are you still teaching in China? It has been 7 years since I left my hometown I do miss there. Thanks for your video.

  • The problem is that HengShui is a little bit too tucked away, and it takes a very long time to go anywhere. I like traveling on holidays, so Beijing, Shanghai, Wuhan, Xian etc are much better choices. Although that school is awesome.

  • I am a English Major student in a 2 class college(My mark is enough for a 1 class, but there are too many students want to enter in my ideal university.So...).

In my school, there are also many students behave like that way.

And so was some of my highschool classmates say.

I don't mean that's O.K. for them to do this.

But I just want to say ...It is common.

We all know that is a bad phenomenon, but we can hardly do anything.

  • Oh, you can do a LOT. Pressure the teachers into giving bad students some serious consequences. Cheating on exams, fighting, poor grades should ALL result in expulsions.

At this school there was a riot because the electricity was disconnected. Nothing happened to anyone. These kids trashed and burned their own residence building. I can't believe how this place functions.

  • It's not like that easy.

If most of the students do not want to study,

the school will face a shortage of learning enthusiasm. Then you can not have the feeling to study, even though you may have planned to work hard in holidays.

Now myself is in such a situation, more or less.

Classmates and dorm mates are busy with dates, chatting on line, shopping, etc, but not study.

  • you both stupid stop talking this bullshit to. Monkketime was never a teacher he is and was just a monkey as his ID. and you stupid doublejsll stop blaming your system and college ( maybe you both are EMail with two different ID).

If you have power than change it or stop blaming .UNDERSTOOD

  • yes ,we can .

change the world ,not the other way around.you live only once

  • It is common to find a harworking student in highschool turn out to be a sluggard in university.

No matter a 1 class university or a 3 class college.

And it maybe better in the upper 1 class universities because of the rich culture foundation there.

But you can't expect all of them.

That is the fact of Chinese education systerm.

It takes time for China to develop it.We have just set off.

  • Emil

I'm afraid you have got something wrong in your mind, since I have read the details about the video.

The education systerm is very diferent in China and other westen countries.

Our Chinese students mostly work very very hard in their primary school, middle school and high shcool. But laze in their college.

Beacuse it is difficult for one to get in a university(usually by a rate of 1:15, in some place it will be 1:30...)

But to get a degree from college is easy.

  • I am aware of this phenomenon. I did not flood them with hard work. I used the textbooks provided by the Department of English, and I even simplified it a lot in case it was a bit too hard. Got no response. We went into watching movies and afterwards I would ask questions. No response. At that point I was not willing to accept that this was a cultural difference, and rather that we are looking at garden-variety laziness. I hate laziness and refuse to give into this sort of behaviour.

  • I was paid by the school to teach English, and that's what I tried to do. These kids refused to participate which over the 6 months drove me to leave because I was not in a mood for wasting a year of my life there.

Trust me, I worked at several schools of all levels in China and Taiwan, and I have NEVER seen anything like this in my life.

    Laziness, pure and simple.

  • Is the other classes' students also like this

Or just the students you were teaching ...

    Think it over...

If it goes with the second case

Then it should have something to do with your teaching method,I think.

Maybe it was the lab helped them to hide from those "they think is boring" classes.

  • Hi doubleJshll, I am Derek, Emil's travel buddy and colleague at GengDan "College." My classes were similar to those taught by Emil though a bit more lively since they contained around 100 students (Though my contract stated that there would be 35 "plus or minus 5%". Still had the PSPs and other retarded distractions which have no place in a university environment. I too flunked half my students for cheating and non-attendance.

  • Ok... here is the brief: I started with the curriculum provided by the university, but got no response. This went on for several weeks, after which time I decided to modify the curriculum. Still nothing. Eventually we got down to watching movies and doing worksheets... Still no response. (See Part 1 and Part 2) By the time I am teaching "dog" and "chicken" I'm just trying to get any response, never mind university level English.

Lack of consequences and discipline is the culprit here.

  • I tried several times to bring this to the dean's attention, but as you saw in the video, she was completely disinterested. All she wants is to be left alone and get paid. That's not the way to do it. Teaching is all about giving a challenge to the student, and guiding them through it, not giving them an easy ride.

After several completely unproductive meetings I decided that the job is a waste of my time and I moved on. Right now I am working at a phenomenally good school in Taiwan.

  • Yeah. It is the students do wrong first.

You were burned up, so you've done these video to humiliate them.

But your retaliation is too over.

And your action of covert shooting is illegal.

Of couse, the students know the anwser,

maybe they just don't understand why you asking these questions.

They are not come to school for thing like

what is a movie or how to spell cat

  • I had once again watch of your video.

Maybe I should apologize to U first.

I was a little crazy last night.

  • I'm HongTong...I felt so bad about this...

  • Confucius say: IT IS GOOD FOR BOY TO MEET A GIRL IN A PARK, BUT IT IS BETTER FOR BOY TO PARK HIS MEAT IN A GIRL.

  • i watch all the videos they make in China and i think they are very objective and smart travelers. china has many problems and they can be fix by talking about them, not with blindly agree. again, good video.

  • im sorry that ppl make such stupid comments at monkeytime. look at video, it is not a school. it is a camp for stupid spoiled children of rich ppl who learn to be lazy and do nothing all day.

thanxk you for the video, we can learn from it

  • This school is such a joke. The classrooms are full of dead fish. I could get more reaction out of a barnful of cows...

  • And finally, I can guarantee that he would have stopped talking to you like children and treated you with respect if even a few of you had simply spoken up and answered some very easy questions. Really simple solution.

But I guess looking cool in front of your friends is more important than learning anything.

Good luck in the real world when you graduate, because you are in for some serious surprises.

  • Everyone in college had teachers we didn't like. We still had to work hard to get what we wanted. You just happen to be at a school that's happy to hold your hands like little kids and not make you responsible for your own actions.

Even if Emil was the worst teacher in the world (which he isn't), it's still your choice to learn and work hard. So quit bitching. Nobody feels sorry for you.

  • You're looking at a group of students (or are one) who are too friggin lazy to make an effort at all, and think they're too damn cool to have to worry about it. They're an embarrassment to the MANY hard working students in China.

Waaaaahhhh, I didn't like my teacher so I couldn't learn. Waaaaahhh.

You complain he teaches like you're in Kindergarten, but I've had kindergarten students who are smarter and work harder than you.

  • Are you people really this stupid? Obviously he didn't start the program trying to get them to say DOG and MOVIE. If you have at least half a brain you can figure out that he's been there a while and this was a last ditch effort to get something out of them.

He even outright says that this is not how he normally teaches. Pay attention.

  • YOU are a professional teacher? This is the biggest joke I have ever heard~! O.K...Now Listen~

If I were one of those students, I won't answer your question, too~!

    YOU FREAK~~~~!!!

  • Yeah... Well, thats great input. Thanks.

    Knob.

  • What were you doing?

Did U think you're teaching kindergarten children,

or maybe fuck yourself just have a intelligence of a three-year-old infant?

Oh, perhaps you don't even konw this word mean...

What respondence do you damn wanna get by asking so stupid questions?

How could you even think of getting a respondence?

  • Well, they dont respond to proper topic introduction, so I give them easier stuff... Stop getting all constipated and use your brain.

  • Oh~~~

U say Chinese students are stupid...

    Then what about U?

    Ah?

Have U guys seen any other one teacher teaching like this:

"Now, who can tell me what is moive?"

    "Who can spell cat?" even

    "C-A-T,cat~"

    Ew~~~~~~

YOU have totally make me sick!

  • I didnt say Chinese students are stupid, I said Geng Dan students were lazy and useless. And you are an idiot.

  • I don't ever remember him saying Chinese students are lazy. He actually says VERY clearly in his comments that most Chinese students are very smart and hard working.

I guess it was just too much work for you to actually read and pay attention before making stupid comments.

Go watch his "Back to China - Part 8" video. That's a respectable school and they love him. This school is a well known joke and they don't. Hmmmmm... what does that tell you? It tells me the problem is with the school.

  • My mistake, I meant to say I don't ever remember him saying Chinese students are stupid. But I stand by what I said. He also didn't say they're lazy, like some of you have implied.

    Again, just these ones.

  • Dog??chicken?just F U!

  • Yeah, I know, they are so dumb, they can't even learn these words. :-)

  • You didn't show people the fact. You are cheating.

  • No, my "students" were cheating on the exams. More than 50% of them.

  • Why student will like that ,must be some reason.Your behavior show you are not a teacher,so student wil kick against.

  • I'm a student of Gengdan institute of Beijing University of Technology.

  • Thats excellent. I am proud of you. Now go and do some work.

  • LOL welcome to the Chinese education system.

You have excellent schools like Tsinghua then you have pieces of crap like this one in the video.

The fact is that China is a big developing country. If you're gonna teach then you best make sure you don't teach in crap and corrupt institutes like these.

  • hey, i watched all ur videos. i agree on that those students are not good students, but u also need to rethink how u improve ur teaching ability & method according to different kinds of students. As a professional teacher, u should never give it up when u meet difficult challenges. actually i really would like to talk with you on sth if you do not mind. do u have a msn account or sth like that?

  • binggo!

the teacher should have right method for them.

I wish you donot give up in China,I know you are a kindman!

  • I watched almost all the videos about your journey in China. Thank you for your videos and hard work.

It comes to your teaching skill and personality... frankly to say, they are not my cup of tea.

You are too young to be a role model.

  • Is there a minimum age requirement for rolemodels?

  • I would have typed "shallow" instead of the "young".

  • I was just wondering what your accent is?

  • I love your things about China. Where are you going next?

  • My God!!! I can't believe that! They're really asshole!!!

You should have left that Uni and went to a better one.

  • Yes, yes... You exposed me, Investigative Reporter of the year... Your intellect is as sharp as your replies. You took friggin' 2 days to reply, and this is what you typed? What are you, 11?

    Aaaaaaahhhahahahahahaaaaaaah!

  • Prince and princess!!! I"m not fucking surprise. These piece of shits should be thrown in labor camps.

  • Im just wondering, why is a loser like him, who cant get a Job in Canada Hired to "teach English" in China? Ohhh..... right there are too many village morons in China who thinks seeing a white man is like seeing some rare animal. LOL

kids, this is what happens when your parents didn't use a condom and gotten a unwanted child, he growup to "teach English" in China. sad

  • Wow, one of my students apparently has mastered the use of ctrl-C and copy-pasted this comment into, wow, THREE videos. I am overwhelmed by this assault of wit and independent opinion. Now, try working on your spelling and grammar.

OK, off you go to the Physics Club for a sing-along.

  • idiot some people might take the right to choose there lifestyle by self!

  • What a shame that it was such a bad experience for both you and your students. I wonder what you could've done to break the apathetic mob mentality. I also wonder why they didn't feel at ease with small-talk with you. I don't know if it was a question of dumbing it down for them, but failing to relate and and create a comfortable environment for them to learn. Just makes me wonder how I would do things differently than you, since I'm interested in ESL in China.

  • Well, as unbelieveable as it sounds, they were just crap students. Spoiled, lazy, and some stupid. I worked in China before at a highschool in Heng Shui, totally different experience, classes incredibly active, always full of questions and ready to shout out answers. "Back to China Part 8"

The school scene starts at about 4:26

  • Frustrating yourself and the students proved to be useless. Once you realized that the school and the students were not going to work with you, why didn't you change the way you taught? I see you used humor and sarcasm, which got a reaction, but then you lost their interest. You could've done fun activities involving the world that they know. Maybe a debate on the best sports car? Clothing label?

  • I tried a huge variety of things. I started by following the original curriculum provided by the "uni", then revamped it to make it easier/more fun (less rigid exercises), then just tried general chit-chat. In the end they couldnt be arsed to answer "how was your weekend?" and "where are you going for the holidays?".

They ARE lazy as hell. It's the rich kid syndrome. I have been working with 5-9 year olds in Taiwan for years, I think I know how to make a class exciting.

  • In the end we watched movies... I mean, give me a break, if I am playing a movie and ask them to tell me some things about it, it is minimum classroom effort. I know most people find it unbelieveable, but thats just it, we managed to find China's laziest students there.

The cat/dog thing I was doing at the end, was for my own amusement. At that point I was determined to leave, and I couldnt care less if they liked it or not.

  • I was looking for ESL jobs in China when I stumbled across your video. I think your teaching methods failed because you just simply don't realize that they're not lazy, they just don't need to learn the skills that maybe you had been raised on. They're rich and know how to work their parents and charm their way through the system in order to get ahead.

  • So you're saying they're rich, don't want to work, know how to get away with not working, and have no desire to change that or do anything usefull... but they're not lazy? So um... what's your definition of lazy? I'm a little confused.

  • Hahahaha... Paws... Antifate is a dog.

  • hey, how come Antifate can type with his paws? thats strange.

  • Antifate, you are retarded. English teachers come to China to help build the country. Lazy Gengdan students like u only make trouble.

  • 1) When you start a sentence, use a CAPITAL LETTER.

    2) "cant" requires the use of an apostrophe (or the "thingie", as you call it).

    3) "cuz" is not a real word in the English language, try spelling it "BECAUSE".

    4) Similarly, "ur" is incorrect, you have two options here: "you are" or "you're".

You WOULD have learned all of this if you weren't too busy jerking off to your sister's photos during class.

Speaking of which, shouldn't you be in your finger painting class right about now?

  • antifate didn't learn any of this because he went to that stupid school. he should pay for the free lesson.

  • lol sounds like the kind of school a couple of my cousins go to. I should go lecture while i'm in Yunnan this summer and see how it goes :P.

Well, I hope you had fun in china despite the unmotivated brats.

  • I love the fact that you've bothered to do this video. No laziness there! If only the slack principal realised what great teachers she lost. Now what was the telephone number of the "school" - I'm going to apply as I need a paid rest.

  • For real...

  • Shai-bi chow-lai-ma to those kids who swore at you.

Sorry for the offensive language and badly spelt translation from me hehe, Man how did you manage to put up with that =O.

    ~Jayson

  • hahaha good video man

  • I am really embarrassed about these shameless "students" and the "university".

  • well, you have nothing to be embarassed about, the university should be embarassed. i just find it amazing that everyone there seems ok with it. i mean, how will these people get jobs after "graduation"?

  • LMAO....I wouldn't even pretend to teach in that kind of circumstance. The fact that you even continue when ur "students" obviously don't give a shit shows crazy patience.

  • It was fun at times. Weird fun. I have heaps of patience. I was just shocked to see that over the months there was NO change in their behavour. But thats because they learned to do nothing and get away with it.

In the end I left due to a mix of reasons. Crappy students, dumb managers, issues with work permit paperwork (there is some circus stuff over the Olympics related security procedures), and the fact that the school chopped some of our vacation time.

    Still wicked memories though.

  • Is beijing university of technology Beijing university? are they the same?

  • completely different. this was the Beijing University of Technology (北京工业大学)subcampus called Geng Dan College (耿丹学院). Beijing University (北京大学)is a normal high standard school.

  • I see, i guess they make their school name like this to make it sound like some famous school and attract students who have money but no knowledge...

anyway, regarding to your back in china no.8 video, was that after this video or before this? becoz i saw you talk to student about how University students behave and were telling those studnets were better than so-called university students, i was wondering if you were refering to this students...

  • Yeah, actually that is the school I worked at before, and these students are amazing. Their teacher is a friend of mine, and he asked me to give them a motivational shpeel, and so I told them that they have good study habits and need to keep it up... or they will end up at the 3rd grade "university". That higschool is amazing.

  • Beijing University of Technology Geng Dan College(北京工业大学耿丹学院).

    Beijing University of Technology (北京工业大学).

    Beijing University (北京大学).

Three completely different schools. Beijing University (北京大学)is one of the best in China. Beijing University of Technology (北京工业大学)is of first class too. Beijing University of Technology Geng Dan College(北京工业大学耿丹学院)is for those kids who can't advance to college without paying a big chunk of money.

  • what the hell is Geng Dan College ? i never even heard of it... is that school in beijing?

  • i love all your videos. but i think you really cannot generalize all students as lazy. those are not the top notch students. if they were they wouldn't be in that school.

anyways i really enjoyed your videos. hope you had fun in china. and look for more cool travel vids! good luck.

  • Hey!

No, that's the point, I KNOW that there are some phenomenally hard working students in China, but THIS particular school is amazingly useless at everything. For them the bottom line is MONEY. To attract more students (and more money) they don't fail anybody - "everybody passes, yay!"

It's scary. Instead of giving these students a chance to learn something and acquire some good habits, the school just perpetuates the problem. And the parents are clueless and just keep paying.

  • YOU MOVED TO SRILNKA!!!????

  • im embarrased

  • aahaahahahahahahahahahahaha!

    "Fuck you! -- roughly translated"

    lol

    i think they like u!

  • thast the difference between china and taiwan. no fighting on the airplaine
