I am selling my 2006 bmw 325i and buying a 2006 kia rio5. I have paid off my other car, but I would love the functionality of a hatchback and 32mpg is awesome!
@superamerica1981 I can't beleive people actually traded in nice cars in seemingly good condition with more class, style, and performance just for a car that gets slightly better MPG initially, when they could have kept their prior vehicles that were already paid for and simply drove them less?!
I've owned Subarus, Toyotas, Hondas, Chryslers and a Ford truck. If I had to buy any one of them again, it would be a toss up between my 1989 Camry wagon and my 2002 Rio Cinco. Taking petrol prices and seat comfort into account, the nod goes to Kia. When adding purchase price, Kia wins outright. I love my nearly 9 YO Rio Cinco. And they get better each year. Thanks, Kia. Remember, just one man's experience.
LOL "on the weary SUV owner..." 12 year Ford Explorer Owner omw to get one of these... did price check on the other brands/models and this one is very price/feature complete vehicle.
Little things like the brightness due to the great headlamp assemblies of both the headlights and optional fog lights are fantastic. I owned a 01Jetta GLS and after 28,000 miles the transmission went on me, completely (auto). Needless to say, German cars cost TONS to repair, and that it did- over $2,400 USD at manco.
It also suffered from overheating due to the bad placement of the engine and not enough airflow through the radiator at low speeds.
A parking ticket/credit card slot in the main bay under the head unit. The interior is great looking. Mine is a Black shell with a black/red patterned interior that is comfortable and easy to maintain. The leather accents to the steering wheel, stitching, and shifter all compliment the overall feel of the car.
I can tell you, i was skeptical of this Korean car, but again, after 85,000 miles I have only brought it in for normal servicing. NO PROBLEMS! A great, fun car to drive. Do not hesitate!
Well, it's a year since my last post and the car is still with me, still operating just fine, has driven across country twice this past year with still no mechanical problems. So, it's 8 years with this great little car. I hope to make 10 and then a new Rio5. Or maybe I'll shoot for another 10 years.
Used for me as a commuter, the gas mileage is awesome- and the problems? What problems? Korean manufacturers like Kia and Hyundai have come far ways from what they produced in the earlier days of 2000. The '08 SX offers some cool features- the stock stereo system has quite a kick to it with all the adjustments to Bass - Treble - Fade etc. you could want, along with an auxiliary feature to use with your iPod.
It also has TWO jacks for things like phone chargers, cigarette lighters, etc. and also
I also just wanted to say a few things about the quality and function of the car I have run into over the last 85,000 miles on the odometer-
It is absolutely true that there is a lot of engine noise when the car kicks into overdrive, while passing or accelerating hard onto the highway. With that said, the light curb weight makes the 110HP very usable with one passenger and a bunch of luggage in the hatch. You are looking at around 5 seconds to 40, 7 seconds to 50, and the 10 area to 60.
I have a 2008 Rio5 SX model with most of the added features mentioned, minus the 16" versus the 15" alloy rims. I love the car. Although I am a huge fan of a manual transmission, I went with the automatic 4 speed with a 5th overdrive gear. This little hatchback in the SX comes with sport tuned suspension, a VERY responsive throttle and steering response, and really makes it feel like a more expensive car than it is.
The looks may not be for everyone, but I do still get a lot of compliments.
@grandori2 Hi. I have a 2002 Rio Cinco that I really like. After all, I've had it for nearly 9 years so far! Great seats. I really like how they look, too, even my old one. The one thing that could be better is the road noise. I do a couple of trips each year from Phoenix to Boston and back, and wish the car was quieter. How is your Rio (version 2.0 if you will) at 65mph all day. Thanks. Ken Silva
PS mine is rated 25/30mpg, but always has done 5 better on each rating. How is yours on petrol/gas?
@VadimNesen Lol whats wrong with people and speed? You want a golf for acceleration, but who the fuck will go more than 40 in the city?Actually i would say this car its pretty good, not comparable to a VW ofc or a Honda. Its designed to be cheap, economical and a bit sporty even tho it isnt
does anyone have any ideas on whether or not it is prone to rusting? I live in Pa and they have LOADS of salt on the roads at times. I DO wash my car at least once a week..but I was just curious. I own a rio5-2008-thanxs!!
У нас в России моного таких авто.KIA считается надежным автомобилем.Сейчас я езжу на Русской LADA KALINA. и вот присматриваюсь к Kia RIO только у нас нет цифры 5 .
Resale value isn't so important. One of the selling points of this car is the 10 year/100,000 mile powertrain warranty. Buy and hold. In 2002, we bought a Rio Cinco and a VW Golf. The Rio has had only routine maintenance, but the Golf was always in for one repair or another. The Rio was also a lot more fun to drive. Even with the automatic, MPG is always 30-36. 7 years on and going strong. As good as my Hondas and Toyotas from the '80's and 90's. When time for a new car, Kia is top of the list.
I just bought a kia rio 5 and i love it. You get a lot for this little of price but what makes me the most happy is how cheap it is to fill it up. It's the perfect car if you're in college or want a cheap fun car.
yeah dadadadalollipops i think i own the same one...i also have clarion sound system and a body kit ...its 1.5 crdi ex top...but i have the diesel with chip tuning ...it has like 135 hp ..love it :)
I own a rio 5 , mine is a special edition . They only have 200 in Canada. It has a clarion sound system installed by the factory as well as a subwoofer in the trunk. It has alloy rims with panic wheels and a stabilizer bar under the hood. It also has the low profile body kit as well. Does anybody else have this model? By the way I never had any problems what so ever with this car.
i own 2008 kia rio sedan ... the only problem i found it recently .. is that its engine sound .. its too loud ... i used to drive 1993 nissan sunny ... i have to say ... its sooo quiet .
I bought one of these its a 2006 Rio5 SX model with an automatic transmission. We use the car as a company vehicle and have accumulated an amazing 151,300 miles in 26 months. And I must say it has had zero problems, all that has be done is keep up on the maintenance and timing belts.
hello from GREECE!! I own this car for 2 years . after 60000 km the car is perfect!! i love it!! very reliable, fast and it has great quality!! for 10000 euros, i think its a great choice!
This car is great for a commute too work. It is great on gas. It is not built for speed. It is built for distance, and saves on gas. With the hatch model you can carry some cargo. It is not a bad car for those who travel every day to and aback from work or shopping.
hmm, i own this car and I think it's fantastic, for the money anyway. looks better than most cars it's size (like a honda fit or yaris) and gets killer mpg and it's comfortable to drive and i'm 6'1". haven't had any issues with mine had it 1.5 years now.
Are you guys on Kia's payroll??? I test drove this car and it is one of the worst cars I have ever driven. I would be driven to depression if I owned one. And don't make it sound sporty - it just plain isn't.
Nobody said it was sporty.....riffrafoo said it wasn't built for speed. Are you on GM or Ford's payroll? Sounds like you're just trying to trash it. I walked around one, sat in it, and it seemed nice enough, like most other econo-hatches. Whad'ya think.... you were going to be driving a $13000 dollar Bimmer?

@avlisk Ooops, and a couple of Volkswagens, but they had so many problems, I'd blocked them out of my memory.
