    how do you know?

    the creation asked*

  • okay if the ï makes the ''i'' sound (as in bite), then what does the ü sound make, is it the same as the dipthong ou?

  • ϋ makes exactly the same sound as ϊ...keep in mind that they both always follow another vowel! when they are after an O they make the sound "oi"(as "oy" in boy)when they after an α they make the sound "ai"(i)

  • wow, so: eï & eü r the same, aï & aü r same, and oï/ωï & oü/ωü r the same?

that's weird, and hard to know which to use XD

  • hmmm actually ωϋ, and ωϊ dont exist....i think neither ωυ does...the combination ωι exists only in one word that i can think of right now and it's πρωί=(morning)..

  • I guess they don't exist because in ancient greek ω was a long vowel and ancient greek had no long diphthongs, or did it have?

  • ω is also considered a long vowel in modern greek...ancient Greeks though pronunced it a bit differently than modern ones..it was a long ooo instead of the short o which is in modern greek exactly like o-mikron..so dipthongs with ω would be very complicating i suppose for ancient Greeks and they wouldns sound beautifully...there would be the so called hiatus right there which Greeks try to avoid usually

  • @greekmadnessss in the modern time ei,,, oi,,, h ,,, i,,,, and u are being pronounced the same,,,, the reason for so many diferent e, is because in the ancient time the language were pronounced totally diferently than today,,,, the pronounciation of the language has been done more dynamic in modern time,,, but the writting has been kept

  • It's is more complicated for anglosaxon speakers you know¿

    It's easier for romance languages

  • lol my mom used to call my brothers animals to in greek. Nice video and thanks.

  • Growing up my mum used to yell at my brothers and sister and I 'vreh, zoh ee-ses-teh?!' (Are you animals!?) Lol.

  • lol . i think you've learned something. Or maybe you are Greek. :)

  • I have been trying to study Greek for about a year but keep putting the books down. I speak 4 languages but this one is so difficult. Frustrated with it. I bet with my bf in 5,000dollars that I learn it by next year to an intermediate level 6000 or more words and complete grammar ) so now I have no choice but to get this in high gear hehe.

  • Hi,

    its hard but nice :P

  • This is modern Greek!:)

  • Ok THnx:P!

  • @ricos97 modern !!!

  • Greek is a complicated language but I believe that the most difficult thing is the vocabulary..!!!!

  • If someone wants to learn Greek he/she must buy a grammar book or else.....Greek is the best language of all (along with ancient greek and latin(language of the romans))Poto ergo sum Molwn lave(come and take them!!!!)

  • Well done, I am studying in Thessaloníki at English university. However, I started to learn Greek and I like it very much. I found these lessons very useful. Are you going to continue with posting these lessons?

  • It's easy for me, even i'm Dutch .. I can read any Greek word but understanding is an another story.. I still practicing!

  • Yes, the truth is that reading is very easy. But there is a huge vocabulary with a lot of different meanings for every word, and a lot of different words for the same meaning.Plus a quite difficult grammar..

  • That's true linaaaap1. There are much words with the same meaning. that's the most difficult thing for a foreigner like me. You must grow up with it if you want to speak it fluently

  • As for the grammar... yes, quite complicated, but thank God I'm Polish and I know what declining substantives by cases means. :D It makes Greek much easier for me.

  • You could buy a vocabulary book for the understanding of the words, but I think that the best way to learn is to live in the Country and make a friend there, that you can practise with.

  • @SonSter89 Gou gaan dit? How my Dutch? ;) I am Greek and trying to learn. Danke
