@Technobanana Graphic, size and speed are just a few of the limitations. Just because it is click and go doesn't mean you don't need and have to optimize the game for your target platform.
What's the difference between the $1500 version and the free one? That engine seems like it should be like $10,000. I've played a few games with this engine and I can't see a drawback to it.
@CillersFan The free one does not have shadows and there is something else it does not have but I forgot, pretty major things but they don't stop you from being able to create games, and you can still create shows but using a different more tedious and fake method/
@GilliamHimself 1500 includes the license to SELL the games you create with the engine. The free version is all that is needed and you can sell your games with it aswell.
I don't think I want to pay $1500 to make browser games... Not a lot of people have high tech computers to be able to run high-end browser games. I want to make games that are executable within the desktop. I think I'll give Unreal 3 Engine a try.
Yeah $1500 sounds like a steal. Cross platform and all. I wonder how performance and features compare to the bigger names out there? Surely there are disadvantages, but he doesn't sound like an insincere salesman. I might actually get into this!
@mepain1 Ja de danske produkter, og den danske viden - og ja - praktisk talt alt dansk, lige på nær vores engelske accent - den sutter monster røv - danskere kan ikke finde ud af at snakke engelsk!
@madichelp0 it doesnt matter... its great for people new to the gaming world, and great for making handheld games. zombieville was made with unity 3d...
@MrDeadlytoaster If you're serious about development and take the time to start open-source or through concept and eventually take loans and start a company, then 1500$ is a total steal for an engine. If you're looking into this than you should at least be of age to go into making money from game development, however there are other options including the free Unity for personal practice to start learning( just more proof that this company is by the community for the community).
@NoMNoMVids Yes... However most people I know don't care about making money while game developing... It's the passion. If you're a starting company, then $1,500 shouldn't even inflict your budget at all. I think it's a good price for what it gives.
I think the fact that EA with all the money they have deciding to choose Unity for anything speaks volumes. It was certainly not a spontaneous decision so they must have weighed it next to several other engines and they found Unity to be the best choice. I am guessing if they used it for web based game it eas Java support? I'm not sure.
@mrk0per Wrong. The Unreal Engine is now free. If you make a game with it and want to sell it, you have to pay a measly $99.00USD for a liscence, and UDK receives 25% of your game's profits after the first $5,000.00
If one click is all it takes to port games to different platforms.. then why aren't all games ported O_O

@NoMNoMVids Don't forget Unity uses C#, not the "standard" game development language.
If you are going "official" go learn C++
