  • I don't know why this sounds so shitty, because EMGs and Seymour Duncans are both way better than you are making them sound. They sound weak and artificial in this video.

Maybe it's your amp settings or mic? Idk but the sound is really weird.

  • dude u just made me wanna buy the sh-6

  • Nice demo. Are the EMG's the solderless kind or are they hardwired? I think the soldered style sounds waaay better. Also the guitars make a difference. I would expect the Les Paul to sound fuller. I like both. I have a passive pick up in my BC Rich V and EMG's in my super beefy, super warm sounding ESP LTD. I like the less gain-y sound or the passives. I just turn up the pre amp and it sounds sweet.

  • Well it's not a secret that EMG are awesome for distorted heavy sound, I vote for them, even though I 'm a passive pickup fan. Moreover, there was a "secret weapon" - Master of Puppets it's meant to be played with active EMGs.

  • Sound on all pickups a shit!

  • Sound on all sound pickups a shit!

  • you better hope i never find out where you live O.o

  • Damn you must wipe your ass with cash... am I right?

  • Good video but your explorer needs wayyyy more bass. js

  • Make the Comparison 0:04 1:29

  • honeslty your really good

  • @aenigma333 same here,i prefer the invaders though,they have a beast of a tone :)

  • Your pants... yyhh rocks.

  • Did you adjust the gain accordingly for each guitar? Or did you use thesame amp settings for both?

  • @guncore hmmm I don't quite remember but I'm 95% sure I used the exact same settings because if you notice the Duncans have a little bit less gain, and it's because they are a hair less hot than the EMGs, still PRETTY hot Passives.

  • After buying a prs singlecut with #7 pickups, nothing compares anymore. I have emgs in another nice guitar and I can get a better metal sound out of my prs, and with the same guitar also nail any other tone I'm looking for... EMGs are great, imho, but they are only good at one thing. A good passive pickup will destroy an active any day.

  • I like your tone, dude - Very crisp.

  • nice tone

  • Squeak a-da squeak a-da squeak squeak squeak.

  • masterful.

  • Why everyone plays that fucking boring master of puppets?

  • @SpearShark Cause everyone knows how it sounds

  • @DarkLordNagash BINGO! it's a really good reference metal song

  • the passives sound more full and warm

  • @Daan7000 Although the actives are tighter and cleaner sounding and In my oppinion better for metal if you play with ver high gain.

  • @TheSchafer78 EMG's suck period. The Sh6 is waaaaay clearer and has more defined pick attack.

  • @Daan7000 exactly, they're a little saggy though compared to the tigh EMGs. Both really have their place..... specially live.

  • the diezel sounds bad ass and btw you cant compare the explorer equipped with emg to the really heavy sound a gibson les paul gives with watever pickups it has theres no way the actives beat the gibson with passive trust me ive tried it

  • The local music store had one of these for a few months. I wanted it.

  • nice tone right there...

  • Diezels sound so dry. Theres no juice in this tone...MESA Roadsters FTW

  • @GuitarRocks23455 Mesa's are just dripping wet.

  • @GuitarRocks23455 it seems that you gravitate towards looser amps.... Plus this clip is Mic'd with only one mic..... to REALLY get the full sound you need at least two mics

  • @GuitarRocks23455

The VH4 sounds really "juicy" with Winged C 6L6s ;)

  • are edward's guitars expensive?

  • i think the seymour duncans have a richer sound to them

  • I don't know if you realize with the seymour sh-6, the les paul custom, and the Diezel VH4, just how close you come to replicating to tone of the amazing Adam Jones of Tool. Throw in a Foxx Tone Machine, and you've got it baby.

  • *** metallica fanboy alert ***

  • the passives have more lowmids and overall are more open soundingthe actives have more highs more compressed sound, are louder plus there's no humming and hissing noises(well duh? EMG actives)but are more crisper with more definition on the power chords and with more sustain but anyway there is NO best pickup, just like there is NO best guitar player,it just whatever floats your boat,i personally prefer the emg's even from blackouts, blackouts are cool but they color the sound too much for my taste

  • It's not even close SH-6 all the way!

  • you're an inspiration to any guy who doubted his own playing...

  • Seymour is so much better IMOP lol

  • Is the Diezel VH4 noisy at all?

  • 1. put some pants on next time you make a video

    2. why do you need such an expensive amp when your not that good?

  • @xxgdkxx Way to be an ass.

  • emg sounds like playing under a bridge. sh6 very nice. what is about the sh4? i changed from emg 81 esp eclipse to sh6 with engl powerball. some guys play the same equipment with sh4 ... what is about that. more mid, but is there enough power for the metal attack???

  • love that bitty tone of the duncans!! i use the sh-4

  • Comment removed

  • i like duncan passives better but on here they kinda sound the same maybe its just me idk, nice playin too :)

  • Overall, I'd prefer the Edwards JS. Only because I like the feel of a Les Paul and and I like SD Distortions. Can't handle Explorers

  • DUNCANS all the way...but it could also be the LP GUITAR, THAT THINGS NICE!!

  • Passive pickups sounds really less plastic.

Active pickups is a waste of guitar sound!

  • awesome playing dude!

  • Great.....another youtube video featuring Master of puppets as the riff. Talk about beating a dead horse!

  • @darthinfurnus Totally agree. Master of puppets...AGAIN...

  • Dude, thanks for taking the time to do this. Helped me decide on the SD SH-6. Gotta say several of the riffs you played rang a bell with me... Sounded like an old computer game I used to play called Quake 2 ;)

  • My opinion: SH-6 will usually win... especially against EMGs.... (I have owned both so I know what the nuances are). The duncan sh-6 is clearer and more responsive to the natural wood resonance of the guitar being played. Yes, I do love the Metallica EMG sound, but the SH-6 has that raw, dynamic sound that live players hunt for.

  • SD Distortion sounds way better. More natural.

  • That Les Paul is a really nice guitar!! John Sykes is amazing! Where did you get it?

  • @ezurcher1 search for katana guitars on googl. I ordered it from Japan

  • thanks for this Video

    +5555

  • SH 6 Distortion Mayhem Sounds Clearer, brighter and with more presence, and!U dont have to do that 18 v mod with active and neither have to change them every once in a while!!!!!!!they KIIIIICCCCCK ASS!

  • passivs seems by far cooler and deeper and serious then the batterie activs one does it !!!!

  • The wood hardly influences the tone anymore when you have EMG's installed

  • could you give me some comment on my guitar playing ?

i have videos in my video album. Thanks

  • wats better for a les paul emg 81 85 or seymore duncan alico pro

  • How is the SH-6 in the neck position compared to say a SD SH-1 '59?

  • how much did you get that les paul plus the price of seymour duncans and installation if you get them installed?

  • dude put some pants on lol

  • The Seymour Duncan Sh6 definately has more GUTS & Growl 'n life than the EMGS. I play SH6 and PA TB 2 asl well, and the secret is to smack 'em hard with your pick

  • love it. money does not buy talent - still lives true today.

  • @kismo24 Uhmm, that was a pretty decent demo, guy.

  • @kismo24 He's not an excellent player, but neither am I, and I have two expensive guitars. He can buy what he wants, it's his money.

  • The EMGs sound tighter, but the Seymours bring out the tube tone better.

  • the duncans sound better imo... a more natural tone, not as much gain or treble but an aver all better tone, that les paul will sound naturally darker than the explorer anyway

  • @TodayAt420 Good Point -- I have two Ibanez guitars. One with EMGs and the other with the Seymour Duncans. The Duncans sound more organic and natural.

  • wow horrible sound both, i think its the amp

  • its youtubes compression

  • nice underwear :D but seriously though, good video

  • ive got a les paul classic (primarily metal) and have been heavily considering swapping out my ceramic 500t for an sh6 distortion for a while. have heard is too bright? hows that phenom in the les paul? cant tell from the video. planning on matching with a jazz. thanks if you have any hep to give. weighing against the customs jbs dirty fingers and burstbuckers

  • Burstbuckers are VERY bright, and can't do metal as well as EMG's or Duncan's SH6.

  • I have to agree with Mr Jimmy, The Sikes sounds way better. I have gone round and round with the emgs for years. I always go back to passives. If you want the bite of a active and the warmth of a passive, check out Damarzio Deactivators. I bought a Ibanez with'em and love them.

  • i hate emg's they sound so sterile every note sounds the same, very blah..

  • 100% passive

  • Hi man. Is a tube amp? or transistors or hibrid? ty

  • @DarksideofDOG

    Tubes!!!!

VH4 is a fucking monster. I am disappoint by this video.

  • I'm surprised but the passives sounded much better to my ears and I have two guitars loaded with emgs. The main advantage of active pickups for me are their sensitivity, they make playing fast legatto stuff super easy.

  • I thought the SH models of SD were meant for the neck and the TB for the bridge...or is it vice verssa D: ? nice playing , sounds so clean, are you using a noise gate or something with the passives?

  • @serazac25

TB means "Termbucker" so it can be loaded when you got a Floyd or something, when not use SH.

  • I think you wrong to comparing ACTIVE vs PASSIVE pickups sound...the right is.. you should comparing 18V vs 9V sounds..nice play btw...

  • I like the sound of that Les Paul a lot better... how much is it because of the guitar and how much because of the pickups I can't tell. BUt it sounds a lot more... !"organic" to me.

  • souns the same to me, but i like sh-6's more

  • sounds the same

  • I prefer the sound and feel of passive pups.

  • I AGREE WITH YOU 100%

  • @aenigma333 yea, i agree. i sometimes want the "emg" sound but i find that the active has too much of a diode clipping sounding distortion. the other thing is i like the dynamics of passives and think that actives sound very compressed.

  • Your joking right. I guess i just misunderstood you or something.

  • whats the sound different between 18 and 9volt sound ?

  • i hear it makes the sound hotter, bigger, and even clearer

  • ok i know you need a battery clip for the 18v mod, but i also know you can put a switch on it so you can switch between the 18v and the 9v sound, but what kind of switch would i need?

  • just a 3dpt switch or a simple toggle

  • lol i dnt mind inaccurate playing but i do mind u not wearing pants lol

  • well duh that freaking les paul is gonna sound wayyy better its a way better guitar than the explorer style. its all about the wood and how the neck is built

  • the reasojn the les paul sound better is cuz les paul sound better then mst guitar,it has to do with the amount of wood in the body and the way it shaped

  • the LP sounds way better

  • DUDE put some pants one.............. kinda nice tone

  • bleh, who cares about pants!?

  • hey, its nice you are trying to mic your amp and dont use a cheap camcorder

but what the hell is this ? it sounds even worse than my line 6 spider i just sold

spend some time to experiment with different mic positions and use a micpreamp before you are going into pc or use a interface like toneport (don't you ?)

dont know whats the matter, but such a tone out of a diezel is sad

  • "modding", too loud word.... for placing two batteries into EMG instead of one xD

  • I would rather hear the pups from just one of the guitars, Since its a diffrence in the two guitars.

  • and also the fact that the lespaul has more wood than the explorer so of course it would have more tone to it

    but i say EMG

  • What technique do you use to play that fast at 2:26 ?

  • It's called training grasshopper!

  • Not a technique, just a scale.

  • That amp sounds too processed. The sound was unbearable with the 18v EMG's.

  • Playing on your pj's, joey? You sexy boy! lol

  • hehhe hell yeah boy, Snoopy FTW!

  • @JTPG Is that a Joe Satriani strap!
