  • me senti muy triste por la muerte de jhon..siempre q escucho un tema de el o de los beatles me siento triste y recuerdo muchas cosas de mi vida...jhon vivira por siempre y los beatles tambien...ya nos veremos jhon...luis

  • I wonder how many times he was asked the same question that day and how many times he was telephoned. How can't nobody think about that? Of course John was his friend, but well, people have different reactions with death

  • This isn't really his reaction to John's death at all. It's a sarcastic reaction to a camera getting shoved in his face and a the kinda guy who would say "So he's gone then, eh?" about his friend getting shot.

  • Anyone putting down Paul's reaction, let me know next time you lose a friend. I'll come shove a camera and mic in your face. Fuck you.

  • Comment removed

  • Once you lose someone you love, care about come back here after you've gone through the same thing, add to that lights and camera's in your face.

  • @AJIX

If someone i love is being killed i would be in a state of shock for 7 days, not chewing gum and making joke of it.

  • @Plluriel hes obviously annoyed at reporter

  • Still can't believe this is really Paul and his reaction.

    Its not just Drag,isn't it?

Its his gum chewing, his scratching on the face...i don't see any pain and sadness in his eyes,no matter how much hates press and all questions.

  • @Plluriel he just doesn't know what to say, clearly. he doesn't want to give the press the satisfaction of him crying

  • @Plluriel You bloody fool, look at his eyes. I've never seen that in Paul's face. His contempt is aimed towards those wankers shoving recording equipment in his face, when his best friend had been shot dead that day. Get real.

  • @GalacticCowboy

He's a rock star, close friend to John,of course reporters are gonna ask him about his death.

That is so normal. There were many death celelebreties, this is first and last reaction like this one.

People should be sad, quiet, depressed if they are hit by a death of a friend, not like this.

In that sadness who has time to think and react like this idiot?

  • Today's the 30th anniversary...and I can care less. Lennon really blew it with his big mouth. I read "Who Killed John Lennon?" (you should too) and author Fenton Bresler had evidence in which the CIA hired Mark Chapman to kill him. And with that, I believe that Jimmy Carter was behind the crime. But it doesn't stop there: Guess who was in New York the day before Lennon's death? Ronald Reagan. Another sign he too was also in the plot. And guess who was CIA director during this time? George Bush.

  • His reaction to the reporters was perfect. Nowadays people just try to be politically correct a go "OH IT'S SUCH A TRAGEDY BLAH BLAH BLAH."

John was sarcastic, but that was more sincere and it was clear he was hurt deep.

  • You also have to remember, young ones. There was no cell phones, or You Tubes, or Twitter. When all you read was "Paul said Lennon's death was a 'drag'" Yeah, that sounds cold and nasty, When you see and hear it 1,000 times now, which wasnt possible then, you can see the obvious pain in his eyes and can pretty much read the "fuck off, vampires" in his tone, you get the meaning of what he said.

  • real paul died in 1966

  • @Quex01 You're an idiot.

  • @Quex01 finally someone who knows that hes actually dead

  • @Quex01 fucking spacker

  • "drag, isn't it?" what an arrogant wanker!

  • @Quex01 Ok, Paul was being sarcastic dude. How would you like someone questioning you about a close friend and former partner who died, asking you "how does it make you feel?" Paul wanted to get out of there ASAP.

  • The thing is: Ok, It is really easy to judge Paul by his 'it's a drag' statement. However, how can you judge a whole person just by one line? by one moment? We don't have access to all of his thoughts and feelings. Take it easy. Before judging, you have to, at least, admit ignorance and that you don't really know Paul.

  • I hate the press, too, .... but we all clicked on this link, now, didn't we?

  • @Latas33007 ouch . . . yes we did .

  • At 0:35 one of the reporters says "done now yeah?" which causes Paul to say to him "a drag isn't it" because they are not taking into account that he has just found out that his band mate an friend has died in horrific circumstances and for them it's just reporting the news and trying to get an exclusive whereas this has devastated him. You only need to look in his eyes to see how he really feels.

  • stupid, stupid press. just look at Paul! you can completely tell he's trying to hold his emotions in. but these idiotic money grabbers can't leave him to grieve.

  • The reporter was definately new at this...

  • "Drag, isn't it". Lennon would've loved that answer.

  • Very obvious that he's pissed off at the reporters, I don't know how they could have taken his "It's a drag, isnt it?" remark as anything but overly sarcastic.

  • thats not paul McCartney thats william campbell his replacement paul is dead he died in a car crash in 1966

  • fukkiing reporters. why cant they just let the man mourn in peace!

  • Anyone with even the slighest ability to read peoples feelings can see that Paul is in major shock and very very angry about what happened. He just wants to make it to his car to be able to deal with his friends death without giving the press that satisfaction of seeing him crack. The "drag"comment was filled with sarcastic anger towards the reporter.

  • @bawoman I agree with you completely. The media was relentless in getting Paul off guard, to have him falter if just a little. They seem to bait him into making a mistake, and he recognized it and gave them a sarcastic sound bite. Anyone with half a brain cell would have been able to recognize this, as you and I did.

  • Such integrity; "a drag isn't it?"

    What can a man say?

  • 0:42

  • He looks drugged.

  • @FreyaHolz Go to hell.

  • And the lifetime achivement award for "I couldnt give a Monkeys" goes to.......

  • It's so sad, you can tell he's upset and doesn't want to be asked all those questions. The what a drag comment to me, seemed to be an angry statement at the reporters for the hounding. They are pressing him for a reaction with little to no sympathy and he just doesn't want to be there. His body language tells you everything. Can't the people who have immediately dismissed this as uncaring see that he's upset? Look at his eyes, he looks like he was trying his best not to break down.

  • Paul always shows up where he can get some publicity. What a little twat he is.

  • @JuanMacready You sir, are Satan incarnate. And a bastard at that.

  • I know he's a brilliant songwriter and I know he was in the Beatles. But I'm sorry, I think Paul McCartney is a self-serving, selfish fake who doesn't have a sincere bone in his body and isn't worthy to mention the name "John Lennon".

  • @ThatBritGuy Lennon was quite capable of being a selfish prick if it suited him. His behaviour during the last two years of the Beatles was shockingly irresponsible - he claimed the right to call himself the leader but he couldn't be bothered to do any leading. McCartney was obliged to become leader, and Lennon subsequently blamed McCartney for anything the Beatles did that he didn't approve of, even though he went along with it at the time. I don't believe Goldman, but Lennon was no saint.

  • @ThatBritGuy well said

  • he looked and sounded like he didn't give a crap. I love how he says "well i didn't feel like it". When he says "cheers" it was like, bite me, you want me to ball in front of your cameras? I'm not gonna!

  • that's right!!

  • I dont know where some of you are getting you information from, but those of us who know Beatles history know there wasn't much bad blood between Lennon and McCartney by 1980. They had been talking and John himself didn't dismiss the idea of a reunion shortly before his death. So I have serious doubts that Paul was happy John was murdered. What is wrong with some of you people.

  • @THeMaskedBlogCritic - Lennon talked about a reunion in the course of filing a lawsuit, and as we all know from Beatles history, people say a lot of strange things when they're in litigation. But I agree that Lennon & McCartney were pretty amicable by this point.

  • Is he remorseful...lol...I doubt it

  • he looks shocked more than anybody I've ever seen.

  • Oh. Stop blame him!!!

    Macca is such splendid man!

He*s astounding! Very polite, gentle and modest man.

He said repeatedly ppl got his words wrong. He was really upset and these pressmen just got at him.

All time since 9 December 1980 till nowadays in many interviews he*s been questioned of his feelings about John, his death, their relationships etc...

He loved John and admits it as opposed to John who did it only in private.

  • At least he didn't blame the inanimate handgun for his death.

  • Typical bloodsucking reporters... I bet they would have just loved for Paul to fall to his knees, and start screaming, and crying, "WHY?!?!?!" for them. I'm glad his demeanor was blase towards their questions.

  • lol

  • @GoodbyeSobriety LOL Paul never met a camera or a microphone he didn't like. No need to blame the press for some of this guy's grand manipulations. The once competent composer is no longer really a musician. He's an industry with himself as the product. He sells himself like soap and he fills stadiums, not because of what he does today, but because of what he did 45 years ago. Personally, I think the wrong Beatle was assassinated!

  • Maybe if they would've gave him sometime to morn he wouldn't have said that. Step into his shoes and imagine the closes person to you and the person you spent the best times of your life with is dead suddenly one morning. Then imagine being mobbed by reporters and other people on the subject. If it had been me I'd have been in that studio crying listening to old records which I wouldn't doubt if that's what he was doing. To walk out to that on the worst day of your life. I think I do the same.

  • He was pissed off. The last thing you need when your best friend dies is to be mobbed by reporters you've been running from your entire life, asking you how you "really felt" about it. How did they THINK he felt about it!?

God, he never got a chance to set things straight with John either, which didn't make matters any better...

  • When did heard the news! And paul said this morning sometime.. Was Yoko who call paul after conformed that john had past a away... So paul was second man in world who know that john was dead, before the world know it....

  • I'm sure if Paul could do it over he wouldn't have said the drag comment because it seems rather flippant.

However, one should not be so harsh in their judgment on someone at what is a very difficult time. Most of us are not mobbed by press when a loved one dies and asked to explain how we feel!

  • Well he's chocked, anyone can see that

  • He gets doorstepped by an obnoxious prick so he gives the guy nothing. The "it's a drag" thing was more a dig at the other moron who said "so he's gone then eh?" He probably wanted to punch their lights out.

  • Lol, he sounds like such a smart-ass when he says "Cause, I didn't feel like it."

  • Got him at a bad tim, he just wants to be alone. It's a draaaaaaaag.

  • he just seemed angry that the reporters mobbed him like that. He didn't seem to want to give them any answers.

  • No it was stated by the Maharishi.

    He was dead Spiritually.

But you know how people are they listen but they dont Hear what he said.

  • yeah he was just being sarcastic... but really sayin "how the fuck do yu think i feel??" how could yu react to the news your life long friend was shot?? and they didnt even get yoko!!

  • He could have at least spat out his everlasting gobstopper before answering.

  • haha you made me laugh everlasting gobstopper LMAO

  • Your comment was the best laugh that I've had all day. I really lost it on the everlasting gobstopper.

  • drag isn't it? haha

  • Leave him alone!!!!! hes upset and doesnt want to talk! >:(

  • <:)

  • You do realise this clip is 29 years old don't you???

  • drag isnt it

  • ok chill hehehe,,,

  • Ok, really, Paul is not dead!

HOW CAN HIS KIDS LOOK SO MUCH LIKE PAUL McCARTNEY!!!!????

    SO YEAH!

  • Comment removed

  • Thirdalproductions let me give you some advice because your a youg lil girl i mean boy its not wise to talk shit,i no you feel cool because you can cuss online but you have your face all over your page and your info and you have no clue who your talking to one day you may come across a crazy person that can easily track you down and well you can feel in the blanks

  • You are a bit too melodramatic in your description of me, I'm not saying he is without fault, all I'm saying is those without sin be the the first to cast the stones,.......why are you saying that I am blaming the media for being around at an inconvenient time?, I never made mention of the media , only responding to the callous remarks of those whom are quite ready to rub salt into a wound........only an idiot would let those in the entertainment field be a role model and most don't care to be

  • Please don't judge a man whom is wise enough to know the wiles of the media and for a man whom is demanded to compartmentalize his life as a means of existence,.........don't judge him until you have walked in his shoes

  • calerouan- Look, I love the Beatles however, they were just people. Full of hypocrisy and contradictions. Are you saying that one can only PRAISE the Beatles? Kneeling at the altar of celebrity worship does not mean that you can CALL OUT and SEPARATE the painful shortcomings of these talented musicians. Paul often cared only about Paul. There's a great body of interviews that suggest Paul USED the press for his own gain. Now, you wish to blame the media for being around at an inconvenient time?

  • I've noticed Paul deals with trauma in a very odd way-he almost stonewalls it. Like he just refuses to deal with it. Boy, I'd love to get a psychiatrist to dissect this video and figure out what's on his mind...

  • you can see he is holding it back with john death and Georges. you're rite he does stonewall it. If i was paul i'd ball my eyes out I did when George died and I was only like 7

  • @scandalouzmegz - The Beatles are one of the most death-haunted bands in popular music. McCartney lost his mother when he was a kid, then a few years later Lennon lost his. Stu Sutcliffe died of a brain haemorrhage aged 21. Think of all the death threats. Brian Epstein died aged 32. Mal Evans was shot by the LA cops. Lennon was killed aged only 40. Since this video Linda's dead, George is dead and Neil Aspinall is dead. McCartney has had more trauma to deal with than many of us.

  • he doesnt have to cry like a baby but dam he seemed unconcerned and when you become a celeberty you cant complain about what comes with that of course news is going to talk to him watch strawberry fileds you cant tell me thats paul and why are they singing about a grave yard?

  • paul doesn't have to act like any way any one wants him too, also maybe he was tryin to get outta there before they baraged him with all the questions about their breakup, etc. The press has a field day with that stuff, no matter how he acts people will find fault that hate Paul, so whats the point, sometimes your not very moved when someone you knew passed either, so try being honest, also growup a little people, this is what generates so much hate and intolerance. Show a little grace,

  • Paul did give a fuck! He just couldn't be all sobby all over the news, he never would have gotten the paparazzi of his back, and they wouldn't have made so much money off the footage.

Good for him, holding back in front of the camera, it's the most respectful thing he could have done.

  • he was sad inside he just didn't wan't to deal with his emotions in front of the camera

  • haven't you all considered that the guy was in severe shock, and also extremely concerned for his own safety at this point? He looks pretty spaced out there....

  • Agreed.

  • i actually cried the first time i watched this. I dont know what i would do if my best friend was killed. Paul was lucky he was able to keep it together while on camera. those dooshbag new reporters and all them people need to back off...like he finds out his best friend dies and they are out there doing that to him... i wish they would have left him alone cos he really didnt need that.

  • yall blind he dont look sad he look like he didnt even know or didnt care that was his friend and he was real sarcastic and come on blind bats it dont even look like paul its odd how he's the only betale to look nothing like himself you why everything goes wrong for hiom dead friends losses wives suck with beatle songs cause he's a hell bound imposter

  • Lol are you talking about that theory where people thought paul died in a car crash and a look alike "imposter" took his place?

  • yea im talking about the truth not a theaory theres to much evidence for it to be a theory if its a hoax then he paid some losers to get surgery to look like him for whatever reason

  • Dude, that theory is so gay.

He "supposedly" died in 1966, right? Well does that mean a "look-alike" made one of the best songs, "Hey Jude"? No. So fuck off.

  • Paul & John were great griends & had a brilliant partnership. Hes understandable he didn't say much. He just found out his dear and close friend had been murdrered, its a lot to take in. He cared alot & would of been upset and saddened. I respect him for talking to the medis when he must of been feeling like crap.

  • It's obvious that his comment "it's sad, isn't it?" was overly sarcastic. I think he was pissed. A bunch of stupid reporters asking even more stupid questions at an inappropriate time. Funny how the media twisted it and how all the sheep bought into Paul not caring. He cared. Deeply. Anyone who would think otherwise is a fool.

  • @hellaboobs Actually he said 'Drag, isn't it?' which is why people jumped all over him, because it sounds even more heartless. But I agree with you. I've never seen McCartney looking so anxious to get away from the press. Normally he likes being the cheerful upbeat guy who has the right thing to say, but here he is just plainly desperate to get out of there. As soon as he says 'Drag, isn't it?' he knows it's come out all wrong, so he says goodbye and lunges for the car.

  • @lexo30 Here is something most people don't know "It's a drag isn't it" was an inside joke of a line he and Lennon would use when discussing something that was tragic that they had read in the paper or whatever. I don't know why he used it here other than it being some kind of message he was sending to John in some kind of bizarre way, maybe he thought the message would get to him wherever he was. Lennon would have loved the irony and Paul knew it.

  • @okltsply - I'd love to know your source for that.

  • @lexo30 me too, because i think it's pure invention

  • @ThatBritGuy - You think I'm inventing what? The reunion, the lawsuit or the idea that Lennon & McCartney were fairly amicable by this point? The 'reunion' idea was something Lennon said in a sworn affidavit for Apple's lawyers, as part of a suit being filed against the producers of the show 'Beatlemania' - cf. P. Doggett, 'You Never Give Me Your Money', p. 268. It is highly unlikely that Lennon was seriously considering a reunion, but he said he was because it helped his case.

  • @ThatBritGuy There is plenty of evidence that Lennon & McCartney were 'fairly amicable' by 1980, which is not to say that they were best buddies and eager to work together once again, just that they weren't bitching at each other in their respective songs anymore. So accuse Pete Doggett of making stuff up, if you want, but don't accuse me.

  • the british with dignity, back then, tended never to be emotionally charged in public.

  • i'm from argentina, and you, British, are So Cold!

  • nah, british are so real

  • anyone who can watch this and not see the grief is cold... and xenophobia is really not nice.

  • @FITOSaX12

Im from argentina too, jackass, and your a fucking idiot.

  • @bawoman and why is that? dame una respuesta a mi opinion, no bardees porque si. responde con algo discutible puto!

  • @FITOSaX12

  • The guys head was still in the air! I dont think he could have possibly had taken that sudden news in! Who could in that situation? Praise to him for still taking the time to speak to the media!

  • Paul seems nervous and irritated more than anything. He didn't seem to be in any kind of mood to talk about anything at length.

  • He had the classic british "stiff upper lip" attitude.

  • He looked like he was in shock. People handle grief in different ways. Sometimes people seem to be handling things well at first, then all of a sudden the grief hits them. That's how it was for me when my aunt died. I did well until the funeral and then it hit me all at once.

  • I think he was sad about it, in his own way. I wouldn't like having millions of people rushing me, expecting me to be crying and devastated. I mean, should paul be sobbing because he was expected to do that ? He is human, he lost a friend, ofcourse he's sad.

  • seriously, I wouldn't want people with cameras and microphones rushing up to me either. poor guy.

  • it looks like there is a certain sadness behind his eyes, and when he said he'd just been listening to stuff i couldn't help but think 'he's been listening to some beatles stuff'

for all we know he was crying for hours in that studio.

not matter what i'm certain the news moved and upset him immensely so.

  • I was about 8 years old back then and remember this. Now at 36 years old, I wonder.

Does Paul have the greatest poker face ever? Or is he ready to burst and is calling on every strand of his moral fiber to hold himself together? Or does the man just not give a crap about John being dead?

  • Dude, that comment was just uncalled for

  • i hate when people say or think Paul wasn't sad or didnt care that John was dead. Everyone grieves death in their own way. they may not have been on the best of terms at this time but im sure paul felt great pain. If your bestfriend just died how would you react to cameras in your face? could you really speak exactly what you were feeling? RIP john.

  • Im sure he was sad, but at the same time Paul was the more political towards his bandmates....Paul McCartney broke up the Beatles it wasent Yoko....i mean he officaly did When filed a lawsuit against the other beatles. So i think Paul had many Mixed Feeling about John, Yeah he loved him but at the same time he was Jealouse, and tired of being compared to John......so in a stange way Paul was relived.

  • Can someone write to me what Paul says? I don´t understand the English when I hear it... thank you!

  • Reporter: What was your reaction to the death of John Lennon? John: I was very shocked, you know. Terrible news. R: What were you recording today? J: Um, I was just listening to some stuff. You know, I just didn't want to sit at home. R: Why? J: Well, because I didn't feel like it. R: What time did you hear the news? J: This morning some time. R: Very early? J: Yeah. [off-camera remark] J: Don't know yet. Drag, isn't it? OK, cheers, bye-bye! Later guys...
  • R.I.P john lennon <3 My Family wont even SPEAK of the name who shot him.

because "the retarded shooter" just wanted attention and killed john lennon.

and we wont give him his attention..

JOHN WILL BE REMEMBER BECAUSE HE IS LIKE A GOD OF MUSIC,PEACE, AND JUST A GREAT CITIZEN.

    fact=

the week before he died he gave money to the police for BULLET PROOF VETS(wow coincidence.)

  • Lol, your family are sad bastards.

  • pish poshhhhh

    ur jealous lol

  • not at all, i think its a good reason, not saying the guys name because maybe thats all he wanted, to be known, have attention, so he wanted to be known as the guy who killed john lennon, and everyone would speak his name. so by not saying it your not giving him the satisfaction he might have wanted, tho 1 person cant make much of a difference, if everyone did it they would, and their family are sad bastards, yours are jews so gtfo

  • I understand.....I feel pity for them!

  • Everyone reacts to death in their own way, and when it's sudden, most are left in shock and it takes awhile for it to really sink in. I remember with my pops, I didn't want to talk and just felt nothing, just... numb, and cross at anyone who asked me how I was feeling, because it's a STUPID thing to ask anyone. Sometimes I behaved like nothing happened. Have respect to leave people be. Grief happens in stages, not just sudden sadness and tears.

  • Leave the guy a lone. one of his old friends just got murdered. you don't shove a camera in someone's face after that.

  • i forget where i heard it, but someone said that they had been mad @ eachother when john died

  • the poor guy had lost a friend of 25 years. he couldn't just break down. recording was the best medicine.

  • Says it all really - what a pratt, talking as if he'd just run out of loo paper or lost his credit card.Ignorant toe-rag.

  • It's very easy to criticise his reaction, much harder to imagine how you'd react yourself in the same circumstances. You can see he's in shock and that the last thing he wants is to talk to the media. It's obvious how uncomfortable he is - he doesn't know what to say and just wants to get the hell out of there.

  • No, it was Ono's fault, that weirdie.

  • That car was in the here comes the sun movie! i remember...

  • Paul's obviously in dire shock in this interview. Anyone interpreting it otherwise has a lot to learn about people.

  • Paul was being sarcastic with the reporters. The guy asked what was your reaction? What do you think someone is going to say if your best friend just got popped in front of the house. It was a stupid question so Paul gave him a smart answer. We all know he was grieving but he didn't want to show it.

  • this made me cry

  • I doubt Paul was not very "sane" at the time obviously.

  • hes obviously shocked.

  • maybe he didnt feel like answering questions...i know if one of my band members died...or ex-band members and good friend died, the last thing i would want to do is answer questions and think about it....these reporters are assholes

  • you kidding he just learned that his friend died he is in shock he can react any way he wants have you heard the songs they wrote together they ARE the best is the world

  • wtf are you talking about luxx63? what do you think mccartney is? an android? well hey maybe android paul's circuits were malfunctioning that day. if so you can't really blame him for not reacting in a way that meets your approval. and george was the apprentice beatle? ringo is silence? wtf kind of crack are you smoking? just stfu you fucking raving psychotic bitch!

  • Dear, can I have my opinions? You've the yours and I the mine!I don't smoke nothing excepts cigarettes very common,I don't drink except for water and Coke, and I see you're without respect of the opinions of the others!Bitch are you not me!Its that the way you ENGLISH or AMERICAns to bring respect to anyone? If is it,we should be scared from you!

  • respect?! lmao! when you're going on like a fucking lunatic about paul mccartney? it's disrespectful of you to call him a "shit of a man" and imply he should be dead instead of john lennon. it's disrespectful of you to refer to george harrison as "apprentice beatle" like he didn't write some of the best beatles songs. why should anyone respect your idiotic opinions? fuck that. take a look at yourself bitch. if you want to be treated with respect then start acting respectable.

  • lol every time you post you sound even more like a mentally retarded nutjob. too bad it wasn't you on the wrong end of mark david chapman's gun instead of lennon.

  • lol tag along singer? that's such a load of bullshit. regardless of whether mccartney is a cunt or you dislike him for whatever reason, your diminishing his role in the beatles to "tag along singer" only proves your own idiocy. it's funny because there's luxthefuckwad over here talking about mccartney the tyrannical evil overlord of the beatles and now you're saying he was nothing but a tag along singer. lol make up your minds bitches.

  • Look, don't reply to me anymore because you are an offender,I search to share opinions not to create a sort of flameware.Mentally I'm what I'm,anyway free to not give you any explanation,ok?Stop your interest for me please!Only a little thing,BEATLES was THE GREAT POPROCK BAND,and about their private life anyway at last I don't care too!

  • He wanted to go to work so he could get his mind off the death of the one he's loved since he was a kid. Come on people. If he sat at home all day, he would be crying his eyes out.

  • Anyway, Paul's whole reaction was very imature. Going to a studio, saying that he was working all day. At least very imature.

  • you cant say that...he was so shocked that he could not even think. He went home and cried everynight for a week after his death.

  • Everyone has their own way of dealing with grief. You don't know what Paul was experiencing that day.
