Because the cow is injured it is useless to the farmer and may cause danger for anyone else so they continued to shoot at it to kill it and stop it from suffering.

Isn't this an Issue better left in the hands of Animal Control professionals who have the proper equipment, training & techniques to handle the situation safely?
Call me crazy but I'm betting 1-3 Animal Control workers with one tranq gun would have been able to handle this situation more efficiently on thier own than these 20 rediculous cops did put together; chasing it down the street with flashing lights & sirens scaring the hell out of it and firing at it with a 9mm hand gun... fuckin' goofs.

It was no doubt going to be slaughtered anyway, however not many of the buggers escape. It should have got an award and allowed to live out the rest of its natural life for managing its escape.
The police are obviously cluless unless it involves a truncheon or gun as every night Television proves.
Why then, do they not shoot loose racehorses, much more dangerous, when they start freaking out, lunging into stand, stables and car parks ?

@euphorial the level of stupidity in your response astonishes me first off obviously the officers would have used tranquilizers if they had them but they didn't secondly why would a cop have a tazer strong enough to take down an elephant if his line of work is detaining criminals if a tazer can take down an elephant it would be able to kill a human instantly considering the length and diameter of the coils would probable be enough to kill a human from the impact so no sir you are wrong

@destroyedklkk I was responding regarding TRANQUILIZER DARTS, as that is what was mentioned. That animal would NOT have freaked out had they not come screeching in with fucking sirens and lights and all that commotion. It was NOT the police's job to handle this. Realize it and deal with it.

@euphorial it is the polices job. the cow was obstructing traffic so they were called to scene. they initially shot the cow because it charged in an aggressive manner. in my opinion i would rather shoot a stupid cow than even come close to being harmed by one. Because the cow is injured it is useless to the farmer and may cause danger for anyone else so they continued to shoot at it to kill it and stop it from suffering.

No. They did not have to shoot it. It's not the animals fault. Blame the human that owned the animal. All they had to do was get a tranquilizer. And safely move the animal where it and others could be safe. People see a potentially dangerous animal and automatically say "kill it"!! Idiots don't bother to think first.
