BTW- I agree with you! rubber bands aren't so hard to eat with because you can actually remove them! I never had the herbst appliance, but i did have rubber bands and they really arent that bad!

i had it for a year but i had it with an upper expander it really wasnt that bad but when you get the "weights" on it it really sucks you cand bite all the way down but when it comes off it feels soo goood mine didnt at first because they had to cut it out with a laser because it grew into my gums but hopefully yours isnt as bad as mine good luck

I swear that the worst thing about the whole braces process was getting the entire sucker off. It wouldn't come off! When my ortho kept yank on the bottom set, it felt like my molars were going to come off. :(
He finally had to drill/make an incision to get it off (i don't get how that worked, but it did).
I'm 15, & they didn't know how great it would work since I'm older you know, but it's going great & I should be getting them off in about a year which is the same as everybody else! :D
So yes, I think you could still possibly get it, but you prob. need to do it fast.

Please go to google or ask and put in jaw damage caused by a herbst appliance and read what a jaw surgeon, Dr. Joel Teig says about it and please believe it. My husband got it when he was 15 and his jaw is severely damaged now. Ortho's make alot of money on this torture device but you'll be just fine without it.
