  • Now thats an older Spencer!

  • @praestant8 Yup, still going strong. Organ is from 1928.

  • Jesus, I must have listened to this close to 50 or 60 times just over and over again. What is it about the harmonic content these old motors produce that we guys love. I'm glad its not a drug.....

  • I agree.. it sounds really cool ...startled me at first

  • I've watched this so many times because it sounds badass :-)

  • what a really cool sound it makes on startup!

  • Isn't it fun!?!

  • 3 phase motors just sound so awesome on start up !!

  • If that blower is located at a private residence, I wonder how the owner got the power company to run three-phase service there. This is something they will virtually never do.

  • It is in a Church. Installed in 1928.

  • I see now. That would be something different..

  • @Tom1980nj this electric motor is from 1928?

  • @vapno92 I would assume so, it's the only one that's ever been there that I know of.

  • suounds like a jet engine winding up :D

  • the noise! Just like our fan. Very Powerful shakes the room!!

  • I love the sound this thing makes.

  • wow that's pretty bad ass

  • CC, I have a clip on youtube of my own blower starting up, there's a definite difference between the two, while mine is a Century 2 HP I believe the motor itself is physically larger than this 3 HP, it weighs 290# alone. It is single phase 220V, 3 phase typically just slams into speed almost instantly even on the largest woodworking machines at my workplace with 5 HP motors.

  • i love that sound on start up. it sounds great.

  • Sounds a little sluggish starting up almost like the lube is dry. I gather it's not a Century repulsion/induction motor as I cant hear the starting brush contacts click off.

Must be about a 1 HP

  • lostnyc2, if the lube were dry, it would make a lot of noise at operating speed. This blower is heavy, so takes a while to start. Also, this is a 3-phase induction motor, so there is no starting circuitry. It produces 3 horsepower, spins at 1200 RPM, and draws 7.95 amperes at 220V AC 3ph 60Hz, according to the nameplate.

  • thats a 3 phase motor. single phase use the repulsion start.

  • Sounds awesome starting up. :)

  • I love cool old 3 phase motors they sound so cool starting up :)

  • Wow.
