Jesus, I must have listened to this close to 50 or 60 times just over and over again. What is it about the harmonic content these old motors produce that we guys love. I'm glad its not a drug.....
If that blower is located at a private residence, I wonder how the owner got the power company to run three-phase service there. This is something they will virtually never do.
CC, I have a clip on youtube of my own blower starting up, there's a definite difference between the two, while mine is a Century 2 HP I believe the motor itself is physically larger than this 3 HP, it weighs 290# alone. It is single phase 220V, 3 phase typically just slams into speed almost instantly even on the largest woodworking machines at my workplace with 5 HP motors.
Sounds a little sluggish starting up almost like the lube is dry. I gather it's not a Century repulsion/induction motor as I cant hear the starting brush contacts click off.
lostnyc2, if the lube were dry, it would make a lot of noise at operating speed. This blower is heavy, so takes a while to start. Also, this is a 3-phase induction motor, so there is no starting circuitry. It produces 3 horsepower, spins at 1200 RPM, and draws 7.95 amperes at 220V AC 3ph 60Hz, according to the nameplate.
Now thats an older Spencer!
