What program were u in? I'm in asl level 2 but I love it :) and our teacher showed us ur video for the song crazy and everyone loved it :) ur awesome and an inspiration 2 me
hi .. you are so good sign language as interpreter to song music , etc.. i think i am crush on you .. lol smile .. you are so damn cute .. nice to meet you .. iam deaf guy ... anyway keep up your vlogs so good and wonderful .. .. take good care .. hugs
please don't ever remove this vid, even if you feel like your sign skills are better now...it is so fascinating to watch; i lov eit....i love that song too!
Yeah your new shit video rocked. Even though I don't know Marilyn Manson's music that well. Your pants are awesome. They go great with your shirt... =)
After falling in love with you "new shit" video, I started to watch the others. Thanks so much for introducing me to Ani Difranco. She's now one of my regularly rotated artists. Love your work. Thanks so much for sharing.
you are the hottest interpreter Ive ever seen the only ones i have ever seen were overweight with a terrible perm and they smelled like kitty litter .
Hey, oh my gosh.. u are damn hot!! Seriously, you totally turn me on! So amazing!! watcing all of your song in asl.. you are truly an artist, very creative. I want see more of you. I can't even decide which one is my favorite. Love them all. "Crazy", "This is my new shit" and this one, "Make me stay". Keep it up! Looking forward for more clips of you. :)
te felicito!!! vi tu video de marilyn manson y tambien me parecio increible...gracias por tu ayuda para las personas sordas! te escribo desde Ecuador!! sigue adelante!!!
Well if there are things you'd change or do differently, I, for one, would love to see more of your work. I landed here because of your Marilyn Manson ASL vid, and loved it, wanted to see more of you, the person behind the making.
You are a joy to watch, and you truly move beautifully. I wish you'd do more, post more vids,....you're really wonderful to see. It does give music a whole new perspective. Nice job.
beautiful! i was just bringing up the song because i am learning it on the guitar, but when i got a glimpse of you, i had to stop playing and watch. my enthusiasm for learning to sign has been renewed. thanks and keep up the good work!
far from it! rarely do songs work in a word-for-word interpretation. i aim to interpret the [meaning] of the song, not the words. each phrase is broken down, metaphors replaced with real-world examples, and then i insert bits to match the overall feeling/affect of the piece as a whole :D
i made this video about two years ago and looking at it now there are all sorts of things i would change, but i keep it up here simply to see progress
Gorgeous!!!!! Wait a minute!!! You're the guy that did the "New S#*t"!!!! I love the way you move. Fluid and relaxing, moving with the music exactly the asl way! Reminds me of younger days in boarding school, all us girls stuck inside the dormitory every saturday, we'd dance, dance, DANCE all DAY!
I am Deaf, and a huge fan of both signed music, and Ani Difranco! You did an amazing job on this! Would love to see more ASL interpretations of Ani on Youtube! Her songs are so dynamic and allow for so much creative in the interpretations. I thought more people would have done this!
Someone linked me to the manson video and I followed it over to this.
I adore your work here. I've wanted to learn sign for years. It hasn't happened yet, beyond the alphabet, but the inspiration was definitely re-lit by watching this.
such amazing work! I'm subscribing and I'm looking forward to more.
i'm pretty sure i'm in love with your signing style. it's very unique and very, VERY beautiful. you have a gift :] i'm a soon-to-be interpreter myself (i graduate in may! ahhhh). you did an amazing job. interpreting songs like hers is not easy and i can definately appreciate your work. keep the videos coming, you :]
These are just amazing, seriously. I hope you do a LOT more like this. You could sell this stuff. Any chance you'll be at the next NAD convention (New Orleans, July 2008) or the next RID conference (Philadelphia, August 2009)? I'd love to meet you - you should be performing onstage!
Very random question - is there a chance I might have met you at FORGE 'round about this time last year? If so - well, I was impressed with you then, and I'm impressed with you now. *smile* Queenoftheages is better-placed than I to comment on the conceptual accuracy (though everything seemed rock-solid to me), but what everyone in my circle of friends is talking about - yes, you're being talked about - is how well you've captured the gender expression/physical presence of the performers.
On the "capturing different performers" level, more linguistically, you seem to have done a really great job making lexical choices that are appropriate to their lyrical style - the sort of signs you'd sort of like to imagine they'd've chosen if they had written the song in ASL thmselves. (Of course, now you need to do something like ... Hanson, maybe ... just as a challenge. *grin* God, what would *that* look like?)
Seriously. *Really* well done. I'm staying tuned for more. :c)
hey thanx maeveen :) its exciting to think that some folks see past the surface structure of these and appreciates the little nuiances that make them what they are. this ani song was made while still in my program - i'd change lots of stuff now, but i keep it up for nostalgia sake heh.
as for the forge conference: "how many interpreters does it take to change a lightbulb?"
i decided to watch in silence. ani has been very important to me over the years. it was an amazing experience. you express it all. the anger, the release and the groovy flow of it.
I can honestly say this is the first time I've really enjoyed 'music' ... you don't just 'sign' the words but you interpret the whole idea of the song/music ... its just simply amazing! The only thing I would ask from you is - do not STOP!
You are a beautiful signer! I'm studying to become an ASL interpreter and your videos are really inspiring. I love how you capture the feeling/meaning/gesture of the song.
You are an amazing signer! I love watching you sign. You really get conceptual accuracy and getting the point across, but also showing the music! Do some more stuff, because you are fun to watch.
it so fun to be remined of how important it is to get the meaning accross rather then the words themselves. i think haveing something interpreted into another langua really lets your see another side of it, it sort of cystalizes it and let you see it in a new way that you might not have thought of before.
Great job. "Green Interpreter", huh? How "green"? Do you by any chance live in CA? (*Wonderful choice in music, by the way. Angry Anymore is one of my favorite songs of hers. "...Night falls like people into love/ we generate our own light to compensate/ for the lack of light from above/ Every time we fight/ a cold wind blows our way/ but we learn like the trees/ how to bend , how to sway and say... 'I think I understand..." I'd LOVE to see you do that song!
thanx! i say 'green', meaning 'new'. and yeap, right now i'm living in southern cali - moved out here from the tundra in the midwest. thinking about what to do next :) quite fond of that particular verse myself
Awesome! Well, if you're thinking about agency work, there's DPI in Santa Ana (DEAFinitely Professional Interpreting Services), LiNKS (in Long Beach), Video Relay work in Long BEach, Burbank and San Diego (Hands on VRS and Sorenson). Good luck with everything, maybe we'll bump into eachother out in the field!
thank you for all the warm comments folks! i'm a rather green interpreter in the field, yes, and music is more of a part time hobby. i won't pretend this is full-on ASL, but that wasn't really my intention either. HOPEfully i did ms. difranco some justice in taking her heavily metaphor-laiden verse to a place where its not only entertaining, but meaningful for all.
this is awwesome
