The history of america is very tragic in a lot of ways. Still the future of america still brings a lot of promise and hope. The europeans came here looking for a better life because life in europe was horrid. Wars, disease and tyranny. America had a lot of freethinking people who brought a country to greatness. However, the mindset of domination hasn't totally left us. So we are left with a mixed bag. There is a reason Europe is more liberal than us. They brought hell on themselves with the WWs.

BO been attending the church for 20 years. How different do you think Wright's speeches were then compared to 2001(but obviously 9/11 hadn't occurred in 1995)? He likely spewed the same ideas of hatred then as he did following the 9/11 disaster. Black liberation theology isn't an ideology that only occurred since 9/11. Wright grew up with that ideology and is intent on passing its hatred onto future generations. Its hatred is closer to Islamic ideologies than current Christianity.

I mean so much suffering has been done in his name, conversion in many cases has been really domination and torture. That's not to say I am against christianity. Yes many atrocities have been done in the name of Christ which is why I pointedly said 'current Christianity.' I also meant to put 'current Islamic ideologies.' Quite a few thinkers that identify with BLT also somewhat identify with Islam as far as stating that it is the original religion of their ancestors (partly true, many Africans were animists) My point is that Islam is, for many Muslims, a religion where they are encouraged to hate others. BLT is the same.

Saying 'the chickens are coming home to roost' etc, is propagating hate, and against the country in which he resides. He isn't fostering understanding. Many people in many countries do bad things. Read him closer. Read BLT closer. I lived among it as a white person. I heard the hatred spewed and don't care for it any more than I care for other races spewing it. It's not an okey dokey philosophy. A 5 year old told me 'I hate white people.' She didn't grow up in slavery or Jim Crow.

I agree, but here is the problem. Jim Crow only ended 50 years ago. That's 2 generations. You have to understand what slavery and Jim crow does to a person's psychology. An apology is not needed just a little bit of empathy. We all want to move past this. Rev wright shouldn't get a free pass but for god sake. The news media and Youtubers beat this to death. By jumping on this guy over and over and over, we are just propagating it. It's like a "see I told you so from both sides" really stupid.

Hey I do understand. I still haven't forgiven my mama for abusive things she did to me. I feel bitterness towards her mother for the abuse heaped upon her. BTW, I've used ur nugget myself to explain that particular hatred, albeit about 20 years ago (I'm 41) and my argument was 'we are only 1 generation from it so how can we expect healing?' That reasoning now gives me no hope, as slavery occurred even longer ago and still it is held against pple who weren't even alive when it happened. We won't see 'healing' in our lifetime.

Many have gone through slavery and similar atrocities, right? When do they let it go, & can they if it's repeatedly beaten into them? Will it only be let go when it's so far back in history that its only evidence is in an archaeological dig? Speaking up against the wrong this country does isn't a bad thing. I don't agree with nuclear anything much less bombs. The problem is the racial divisiveness that is occurring. Lots of bad things happen to lots of people no matter what their race and religion. Wright isn't a little crazy, he's not crazy at all. These are his beliefs and he's spewing them to people who readily follow along (like the robots you refer to) without researching or thinking about it.

That is most likely true as I'm not denying there are many wrong-doing, racist politicians, but he has to work with them as that's the nature of politics. He chooses to associate with and even quote Wright. 20 years of choice and involvement in BOs major life events. He has shown in his book that he agrees with Wright. BTW I'm not Christian and, though white, I did once hate white people bc of exposure to this philosophy.

Right he has to work with them because its the nature of politics, but he also had to work with trinity if he was going to affect the communty in the south side of chicago in which he was working to help the community. So now if he makes it to president (who knows) the people he will be associated will make wright seem squeeky clean. BOs strength seems to be the ability to look at all sides. If he was so radical and unagreeable there is no way he would be getting support from so many higherups.

Yes I agree. But does the mindset of domination ever really leave any people. Name a country or group and I'm sure that they have tried to conquer their near and/or distant neighbors and I'm sure the conquerors were conquered/invaded at some point. Seems to be a correlation between the Moors occupying Europe for 700+ years (til 1492) and the subsequent occupations by European countries starting in 1492- (btw also an example of knowing history but still repeating it).

The hatred that Wright is spreading has been going on for years though slavery ended well over 100 years ago and jim crow hasn't legally existed since the 60s. White people don't do all the bad in the world. Every white person didn't own slaves. Every white man didn't run around with a whip raping black women. Every white person didn't participate in Jim Crow. Sorry. Everybody does bad things to each other no matter what the race, religion, gender, etc.
