A dag is someone who is badly dressed or socially awkward. Gobsmacked means speechless, Ocker is a form of language, it's rhyming slang (porky-pie - lie) . I haven't heard rippa used since I was a kid, I wish that one would come back. Great vid!
Hey that's ok . You are absolutely right. I'm from Invercargill in New Zealand where we have retained a bit of the Scottish accent and we roll our 'r's...you should hear my brothers and sisters some of them have really strong accents.
Not always, move out of Australia for a long time (more than 5 years) and you drift apart from the "average aussie". You see the whole culture thing differently.
lol! ofcourse...but I must tell you that my Indian cooking isn't that great. However I believe I can fire up a pretty good chick pea curry. :P Not too sure if that makes it to the "Special Meals" category.
that was informative. thanks! when i first arrived in Australia 3 years back I found it quite difficult to understand some of the local slangs. How I wish I had this video then. :) Oh and btw your dog is beautiful.
i miss being able to speak slang, a few english use slang, but not the same, im australian and i live in england (stupid family moving here) and my accent aint as strong anymore :( i dont liek the way english speak
Check out my rap song about how to speak like a true blue Aussie battler. It's called, "How to speak like a true blue Aussie battler." Everyone loves it.
Hope this doesn't offend, you sound a little bit like kath and kim baha :) (the australian one obviously, none of that US version crap!)
I think Bogan's the best slang word :) BAHA love it! But I generally use it out of context now...I say it to people half the time as a friendly insult even if they really aren't really HAHA :)
thought u were a kiwi but yea that one was great. Prob best one i have seen so far. Dont ask why im lookin up aussie acents when im aussie. Was just bored out of my skull. see ya later mate xoxo
I would appreciate the videos of this kind coz they help someone who deserately want to get used to aussie slang (which is one of the hardest slangs to master I guess). Thank you anyway.
I met someone from Australia and when they heard the Americans talking about their "Fanny Packs" she was completely embarrassed and couldn't believe the language that Americans used.
She later learned that "Fanny Pack" was a form of a purse worn around the waist
i've been looking for aussie slangs on youtube, and all I can do is thank all the people that have made videos about it... I'm going to Oz in august and I'm kinda trying to learn some slang words in advance! seems like I'm gonna have to RElearn english \o/ good thing the aussies know that they have a precious and different english so they make videos for us \o/ hahahaha thankyall! cheers!
hii lol i recommend that you probably don't consciously use aussie slang when you're here coz there's nothing that makes ppl crack up more than hearing tourists say things out of context and we also don't use a lot of the aussie slang words day to day. Just come and have fun - but i like you're effort. =)
hehehehehe no worries, I won't go saying slangwords hehehe but it's good not to be completely lost while people try talking to you lol hehehe Thank you guys, and I swear I won't try speaking like you huahuAhua i know you guys like taking the piss when people try some aussie pronunciation, I appreciate it though, i'll just let it go hehe cheers!
thats another HAHA. I just say trackies but...LOL thats still slang i think?
Bad thing is I don't even know whats slang and not these days. I speak to friends overseas and I'll be speaking and they'll be like 'what was that?' and I hardly realise that half the words I say are ONLY said in australia...weird ay?
I say trackie daks too...and it's the same for me when my friend came here to, I had to double take a few words :) We do it every day without realising it.
cheers! you are very nice dog lover!

In Australia it means "Female Genitals" :-)
herbieluvbug05 3 years ago
Fanny pack doesnt mean "female genitals" Fanny does on its own. To an Aussie Fanny pack is a great way to say you had a good fanny packing.
Chadhead 3 years ago
when I hear fanny pack I think of bumbag
