Heh, This film has little to no connection with the original Edgar Allan Poe story of ratiocination which first gave us the detective novel as we know it,

But Lugosi is as memorable as always, for me he makes this film work beautifully.

Indeed, some movie buffs affirm that Lugosi gave his best performance on screen in "Murders in the Rue Morgue" - and I agree with them! The film is really very good and Lugosi superlative!

I think I've read somewhere about a release to be done in a near future of a restored copy of this film, with virtually all of the scenes which were cut off by censorship. Is it true?...

This trailer doesn't do the movie justice! It's really a very fantastic movie, filled with an incredible atmosphere! It's also one of Lugosi's top performances from his hey-day of being a horror star! This was a year after he did "Dracula" and before he did "White Zombie"! In this film, he plays a man who is obsessed with proving Darwin's theories by mating a human with an ape, but before this he must mix there blood, but whenever he does this, the subjects die of blood poisoning!
