  • Color will never matter when it comes to a gorgeous voice like this. Anita is one of my mom's favorites and she has moved into my life. I am a lover of Japanese metal, Indies, and many others, but my heart lies with soul music!!

  • @ZugZun69 I'm with you there! I enjoy/love lots of genres but soul is where my heart lies too ;)

  • idk buhh This is a Song that'll make Me cry Like foreal!

  • What a set of pipes! Wow!

  • Classic old school. The best season soul music to stay.

  • She writes most of them. I know she wrote this

  • Whatever happened to this marvelleous singer...?

  • This song has still got it and it live, even better

  • I can hear the heavy influence of this womans beautiful voice in Tony Braxtons.

  • Besides my mom's lullabies, I think my earliest memory of music was lying down on the bed, listening to the radio my mom played as she ironed clothes late at night (late in toddler standards at least), in the early nineties. I believed it was either this song or "Rapture" but it was Anita Baker for sure. Hard to forget her unique, soothing voice <3

  • One of my favorite singers of all time and my favorite karaoke song!!!

  • Anita Baker is synonymous with sophistication and class.

  • BEAUTIFUL WOMAN BEAUTIFUL VOICE!!!

  • Standards from my boyhood days!! Still fresh ummmm!

  • sultry sexy sound.

  • What a range, what a voice

  • this is simple.

  • ESTA MELODIA ME TRANSPORTA A LOS AÑOS MARAVILLOSOS, BELLA LETRA Y LA MUSICA MUCHO MEJOR¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡

  • 10 folks dont have any love.

  • It's been too long long since I've heard this........ That distinct voice of hers.........when she sings......she makes love with her voice

  • When will people learn that the color of one's skin has absolutely nothing to do with music appreciation? Good music is good music; let it be and stop detracting with the unnecessary references to demography. That said, Anita Baker slays! :D

  • Is it wrong that I'm 39yrs old, happily married with two kids and STILL unashamedly in love with Anita Baker? They sure don't make them like her anymore...sigh.

  • @ebonychild

    i agree with you

  • @ebonychild No, not at all. I'm 36, a software engineer in a small town, and I still dig her. I grew up with this stuff, it'll be in my blood forever.

  • @ebonychild darling i feel no shame. im 23 and my pop rode around bumping all of her hits and tons of other oldies but goodies.

soooo glad he did that. booker t & the mgs, james brown, sly stone, funkadelic, you know we jammed to it. class acts they were.

  • I LOVE ME SOME ANITA BAKER!!!!!!

  • such an amazing sexy voice, one of the greatest ever

  • I love her!

  • Sweet love ! Sweet song !

    Great singer !

    I love a lot Anita Baker !

  • Go head Ms 'Nita Baker and sang that song live on the late great Johnny Carson show backed by the wonderful Doc Severson's big band. Wow! What a great performance LIVE no autotunes none of that BS. Too sad music has gotten worse not better the more technology we have. :(

  • No lip sink this is what singing and loving music is about. Today you don't know who is singing naturally or voice enhanced. When todays singers sing on an open mic they are either out of tune, out of balance, or out of sinc. The new artist today are a roll of the dice, you don't know what you get. Fake, real, or something in between. What you do know is whether you wasted your money or not. With Anita Baker I would pay double and still feel like she gave more than it's worth.

  • Anita Baker one of a kind. She is in a class all by herself...

  • Wow...she knocks the lights out with that voice!

  • toni braxton sounds alot like her

  • what an artiste she clearly has a powerful mind just as her voice is powerful

  • She is the definition of class dag i wish she would come out with something else i miss you music

  • @irisflower34 She's working on her new album... expecting a fall release

  • I love her. She just gets better with age. True music lover here. Not claiming to be better than anyone....just saying....I used to like some decent music, until....shit clicked.

  • WITH ALL MY HEART I LUV U BABY.....STAY WITH ME & U WILL SEE....MY ARMS....WILL HOLD U BABY NEVA' LEAVE...CAUSE BABY I BE LEAVE IN THIS LUV!.....SWEET LUV.....HEAR ME CALLING OUT UR NAME, I FEEL NO SHAME...I'M IN LUV...SWEETT....LUV!....DON'T U EVER GO AWAY..IT'LL ALWAYZ BE THIS WAY.

  • i'm an 18 year old white kid, and for some reason ive listened to this like 5 times today

  • @BmsClassic716 That'

s because you hav an ear for good music!

  • @BmsClassic716

Do yourself a favor and buy the CD>>>RAPTURE BY ANITA BAKER. Every song is just like this one. One of the best records ever made. At least listen to these songs:

    Caught Up in the Rapture

    Same Ole Love

  • @RapIsDeadly TOTALLY TOTALLY TOTALLY. There's not one single song on that album I don't either love or at least really like. Don't forget the song "Mystery" either, it's one of my faves.

  • @BmsClassic716 hahah same pal

  • @BmsClassic716

The colour of your skin does not mean a thing, if it did, my musical taste would be very confusing, as I am half Indian, (dad) and my mother is Scottish/French/Italian. I fly under the united nations banner, and just love music!

  • @BmsClassic716

Color means nothing to this beautiful woman's music. It speaks to the heart.

    Dm

  • @BmsClassic716 That just proves that you have great taste in music :-)

  • @BmsClassic716 It matters not the color of the skin It is the color of love a... the heart and the soul, I have loved so many others( never knowing them) but although I know them not I loved their soul expressed in their music may they all rest in peace.

  • @BmsClassic716 i am a foetus and i listen to ella fitzgerald

  • @BmsClassic716 I'm a 21 year old white kid and I've been in love her with voice since I was 5.

  • @EarleBrown HELL YEAH! My friend is a 20 year old white chick and loves anita baker, skin color doesnt mean much when it comes to music!

  • @BmsClassic716

Real music can be addicting, be careful.

  • This is one really smoking song!

  • Really sweet..great performance...wonderful voice....

  • I just absolutely, positively adore her. She has such range and she brings forth such elegance in both her singing and her presence.

  • I absolutely adore this song. I guess that you can call my a rabid fan of Anitas. I try to get all of her cds as soon as I hear that there is a new one coming out.I do have to say that "Rapture" is my all time favorite, though. My husband and I fell in love while dancing to the song rapture. I guess that will do it every time. I've been in love with you for 15 years Jim Grogan, and I'll love you for the rest of my life and beyond. Thank you Anita for singing such wonderful songs.

  • 7 People are dead inside...

  • What a wonderful voice! I love her!

  • I'm speechless whenever I hear her sing, she's unreal

  • Such a dynamic, amazing singer-- her ability is so amazing!

  • I think she's a major talent, and I'm sorry we don't see more of her. Avery good writer, too.

  • This is music!

  • she is so damn cute...janelle monet looks like her

  • @teena82 Oh snap, she does look like her lmao!

  • I'm a 30 something white guy from down south (not your typical Anita Baker fan) and I love this song. Anita's voice is beautiful.

  • All I can say is THANK YOU, ANITA BAKER!!!!!!!

  • LA MUSICA ROMANTICA SE ENCADILO CON SU VOZ, LA MUSICA Y LA LETRA RESALTARON LO GRANDE QUE ES ANITA BAKER, NADIE LA IGUALARA ,ESE SENTIMIENTO DE CANTAR CON ESTILO ,SE QUEDARA POR AÑOS Y AÑOS. GRANDE ANITA¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡

  • Anita Baker é uma Diva do tempo que cantor precisava muito mais que instrumentos e recuros técnicos para fazer sucesso...

  • She is DA BOMB, this is when women behind mics actually COULD and DID sing, I mean SANG, give it to us mama~!

  • when singers actually had to sing :)

  • This song was playing when my husband and I met 14 years ago. Call it fate I guess.... We've both loved it ever since. I bought the cd right after we met. One of my favorite singers ever.

  • One of my crushes as a young brother growing up.

  • Never was one to have a crush on a celebrity but i must say it was only 3 as a kid ...Thelma from Goodtimes, Pepa from Salt N Pepa and Miss Anita Baker in that exact order! Out of all of them she was the one I wanted to Marry! lol

  • She knows how to sing with emotion!

  • I can't believe 7 people actually disliked this video? I will assume they clicked the button by mistake...

  • thats my momma

  • What can you say ??? wow ! Wonderful Outstanding Woman ! WOW

  • and there she is looking perfect and having so much fun, now that is EMOTION!

  • so fine :-) I´ve got my copy of "Rapture" today. I´ve been searching for this song half of my life.

  • I lOVE THE WAY SHE ROCKS WHEN SHE SINGS!!!

  • So wonderful this live version! Thanks for the upload.

  • Her excitement at the end is heart-melting.

  • Does anybody remember this song being played on an episode of "Moonlighting"? I think David and Maddie went to a fancy party.

  • I am a 15 year old addicted to Anita Baker. I love this woman so much! I hate today's music with a passion. Nothing is original, nothing is from the heart, nothing has meaning. -_-

  • @jazzy7543

Not entirely true, but I get your drift. It's good to see someone at your age displaying the individuality to go diggin' for the music you truly appreciate.

  • This woman is truely superb , the tone of her voice the way she carries herself and what a fantastic song, love her just sad I missed her tour in the UK a few years ago. Went to see Smokey at the Royal Albert Hall and realised that Anita had been on the night before, absolutely gutted , what a few days that would have been!!!!!!!!

  • Shes such a LADY

  • WHAT HAS YOUR COLOR GOT TO DO WITH IT?

  • I love this song.

  • She cut up!!! go head ms. anita baker

  • Congratulations on being an Honoree at the 2010 Soul Train Awards! It was well over due. What a very distinctive voice and oh the memories.

Thank you! 365 dayz of the year.

  • THUMBS UP if 2:40 sent chills down your spine damn she hit that note

  • Glamour, she is one of the best of the best.....

  • die version ist super!!

  • Such joy from a lady..

  • Toni Braxton reminds me of anita baker

  • I had the priviledge of seeing Anita Baker live a couple years ago, and even at age 52, she still sounds exactly the same as she did in the '80s. I'm only 23 yrs old but I was raised on Anita Baker, Sting, The Yellowjackets and many other Jazz musicians. I'm not a fan of the music that's on the airwaves now. She was the only artist I knew who took a 10 year hiatus (1994-2004) and returned with the same voice and sound. It was as if she never left.

  • Her reaction at the end is of pure joy.... she truly loves performing... it's amazing! I cried!

  • ^_^ The Anita Baker rock....at the beginning, fantastic!!

  • Wow her voice is soooo different from other voices I've heard, so beautiful and I recently saw her on the Monique show

  • This is one of my favorite songs. I love reading comments by others who agree. But it gets ruined by people complaining about todays music. If yu don't like it then stop complaining and ignore it. Stop going around spreading hate and criticizing music that isn't even targeted to you. That's not your kind of music then fine but give it a rest with the "back in my day" comments, please.

  • Wow just wow,no gimmicks needed just true talent. She sings straight from her soul to yours, got goosebumps.

  • wonderful

    maravilhoso

  • I'm so sick of these Rihannas and Gagas these days. This is singing.

  • @RaineaTrenton

Paula Abdul and Madonna were out around this time, and they were probably just as popular (if not more so than Rihanna and Lady Gaga), so shit singers with good looks have always been around.

Although I doubt someone like Kei$ha could get a record back then.

  • @kives1985

Although, I guess Lady Gaga isn't really good-looking. She's still skinny and white. Plus, she can sing, although the costumes distract from that fact.

  • @kives1985 We can not compare Paula Anita Baker is a 8 time Grammy Winner and is the Queen of Soul!

  • @ronneal1

I just think that people tend to remember the good and forget the bad. Anita Baker was a good singer, but there was so much crap in the 80s.

I mean, Culture Club songs were as horrible as anything that they play on radio now. AND HAIR METAL?

My god, that's one hell of a crappy music genre.

  • keysha cole is like the modern version of anita baker. my 2 cents... great music!

  • @mxpassion17 hellllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll to no, don't you never ever compare the two of them. Keysha cole sucks! Have u had a chance to listen to her in live? pls don't.

  • @lianza09 Did she just say keysha cole??? lmmfaooooooooooooooooo awww man r.i.p to real music man

  • Who's better den anita baker? lovee her

  • Anita baker and Kem.Now thats a concert!

  • Standing Ovation!!!! Anita did her thang on this classic cut. I ain't mad at you girl because that ending ensemble, gurrrrl you tore it up, ripped it apart. BRAVO Anita! BRAVO!!! SHe even had to applaud herself for that performance. LoL

  • A class act....her song still lives........and every single remake/version out there still bears the Anita Baker stamp.....you can't separate Sweet Love from Ms. Baker........it's her song...

  • actually we have an newer artist thats worth something... type in: ledisi take time its her aol sessions performance amazing! even tho she doesnt sound like anita she is amazing and anita is one of her favorite singers as well as ella fitzgerald and many others

  • you're not old. the new music just sucks...

  • Great Tonight Show band with all top studio musicians YEAH BABY !

  • she is singing with heart and soul and she expresses her feelings! she is a great singer i love her ,thanks for sharing my dear friend , love Kate

  • Fabulous Anita. Marvelous artist.

  • I remember being in LA in 98 and read on the billboard magazine that she had fired her whole staff (manager, attorney, publicist) and then after that i have not heard much from her... ANITA BAKER is one of those rare talents that should have reached the sky.. True talent... ANITA BAKER !!!
