  • oh man that espn 2 logo

  • Was he knocked unconscious after the first hit or second hit? I don't see why he couldn't have veered away from the pit wall and just hugged the outside track wall after the second hit, he had plenty of time to turn. Or was steering knocked out?

  • i miss Ned Jerrett......

  • This is why I don't get why these stupid ISC/SMI tracks don't put walls between the track and the pits. What if this was a race wit numerous people in the pitlane or even a pit crew working on a car.

  • Guys... Johnson drives the 48. Kimmel drives the 46. It says 46. THINK ABOUT IT.

  • @NascarFreak3 Plus, it's 1998. Back then, "Jimmie Johnson? Who's he?"

  • Oh thank God and NASCAR for safer-barriers today. This must've hurt like Hell.

  • @nascarfanatic2425 Broken leg

  • @TheMrtgamer Like I said, that must've hurt like hell.

  • To all the guessers of the pit sign... They were setting up the pits for the ARCA race that followed... that was Frank Kimmel's pit sign. NO Nascar Winston Cup pit signs were anywhere near pit road.

  • That must have been the sign board of Wally Dallenbach #46 First Union Chevrolet

  • he hit that for a ton too

  • Steve Park had the worst luck ever

  • park was a good driver but he had the worst luck known to man

  • That was either Wally Dallenbach or Jeff Green's pit sign.

  • @gobackto82 Neither. It was Frank Kimmel

  • I always thought Steve had the potential.I remember in 2001,he was having a strong season up until the crash at Darlington in the Busch race. And the fact that he was rushed back quickly really hurt his career.

  • "It's Goodyear's fault." -Tony Stewart

  • I remember watching steve park, Dale Earnhardt knew talent when he saw it. It's a shame he had some bad luck and couldn't make it as a driver :\

  • Park was a decent short track racer, and he probably would have had a lot more success in the cup sieries, but I think this crash screwed him up.

  • @flubber342 Agree you could hear it in his diction .

  • @flubber342 He only broke his leg in this crash. The crash that screwed him up was the Darlington Busch series race. He had a whole assortment of injuries...broken ribs, collapsed lung and the big one, brain damage. Even today he kind of talks like he had a stroke.

Steve Park is a cautionary tale of why Cup drivers need to stay out of trucks/nationwide.

  • I Felt bad for Steve Park when that happened however, I was really excited to see Darrell Waltrip get in that car and drive the wheels off of it .

  • 1:17 is mike skinner not jimmie johson

  • In steve parks fairly short career in "winston" cup he had some terrible wrecks :(

  • @Lights0ut1109 jimmie started racing cup in 2002. he ran some minor nascar races in 1998 but he didn't start racing fulltime in nascar till 2000. then he raced cup in 2002

  • @DeathToRetro666 ok, thanks for clearing that up

  • i remember this live. i was very young at the time but i can remember what happened clearly. horibly crash

  • Wow it was a good thing he was wearing the hans device.

  • @Lights0ut1109 was no such thing at that time

  • @nlshock88 really wow he's lucky

  • wow

  • Thank god for SAFER Barrier

  • @sethcorn there were no safer barriers in 98

  • @24sniperkitty24: I thought so...

  • @SuperMario51397 the driver has to be conscious to press the brake pedal.. Park was out cold after the first hit in turn 4.

  • Just by your account name means i had to watch your videos:D

  • Pretty sure it wasn't a 48 sign. And 200% sure it wasn't a Jimmie Johnson #48 sign, Jimmie wasn't even in NASCAR back then (I think, or he was in Busch)...

  • All tracks that don't need to have a second lower wall blocking pit road from the track. Someone could be killed in an accident like this.

  • @KingCuervo88 Haha I know right. I've been watching nascar since the 90's and i knew right away that was frank kimmel's sign when i first saw this video. There wasn't very many number designs like that back in the day, so it would be easy to tell it was frank kimmel. Most of these people who think that's jimmie johnson's sign obviously are these "casual" fans Brian France loves so much

  • yep park had some of the oddest crashes liek the one on the yellow where his sterring wheel came off or wehn he an jr nearly kickednthe fence over at pocono

  • I never knew Primestar sponsored a race! Too bad they would be gobbled up by Directv by the next year. For those that don't know, Primestar was a satellite tv company in the USA and was similar to Directv/DISH and merged with DirecTV in 1999. Man I miss Primestar......

  • it's nineteen ninety fucking eight how his that Jimmie Johnson's pit sign? hurr durr hurr durr

  • how was the tarp? on pitwall,it got hurt too! lol

  • Just to put a cap on the whole mess: that is, indeed, a #46 pit sign. Which would be Frank Kimmell. Not sure if it was his ARCA team or if this was one of the Cup races he attempted (he did try a few), it's been a long, long time.

  • LOL boy you can tell who the new age NASCAR fans are here. Newbs.

  • wow. no brakes, tire failure. he might as well jump out of the car.

  • Man that sucks for Park though. He was prolly gonna be ROTY.

  • Did anyone notice that no one cared. Jimmie Johnson sucks and he's ruined nascar unfortunately.

  • Comment removed

  • @03dktart Jimmie didn't ruin NASCAR.... but people who insist that he has sure are stupid. Besides, 2010 was quite an exciting season and this season is looking even better so far. Who cares if Jimmie wins again.... who cares about the championship, there's a race going on!

  • @Rayquaza155 it was in 98 i thought jj didnt start till like 00-01

  • whoever thinks jimmie johnson was racing in nascar back then must be mentally retarded

  • Alright people this is getting ridiculous. We know it's not Jimmie Johnsons pit board. Stop repeating the same thing over and over and over and over and over and over again. I'm sick of it. From now on post a decent comment or it will be removed.

  • its skinner, johnson didn't start running cup till later on.....

  • Man, he just ripped the paint off of those walls.

  • Griif88fan I already spotteed it at 0:35.

  • the pit crewsaw him coming and ran for it when they saw him coming and btw jimmie johnson sucks

  • Wow.. Steve Park in my opinion had the worst luck as a nascar driver ever.

  • this is not jimmie johnson's pit sign it is the 46 not 48

  • Jimmie wasn't in the Busch Series when this happened...he wasn't in the Busch till about 1999 or 2000...this was the weekend of my very first NASCAR race at AMS. I don't see how tracks ran without SAFER barriers anymore.

  • I heard Park had a steering part break, the company that made the part has had Park on it's payroll for quite some time now and funding a racing team so Park can race in some middlin travlin late model stock show. A kid named DerriK From Mass is gonna replace him and Steve's moving on to trucks...hopefully things will work out.

  • Griff88fan my guess would be that since this was in practice there was a Busch or truck race coming up, and the #48 is for one of those teams, Hendrick never ran a #48 till Jimmie came along.

  • He had a good future ahead of him, just like Joey Lagono but he was banged up to many times.

  • pretty sure that would be a mike skinner pit sign. not sure though

  • It was the number 46.

  • @OldSchoolNascar no it was 48 wasnt skinner like 31 or something

  • @OldSchoolNascar No its not Skinner's his would have been 31 at this time, idk who's it is probly some nobody, but Griff88fan is WAY off for it to be Jimmy.

  • @OldSchoolNascar it was

  • @OldSchoolNascar Mike Skinner was #31.

  • Comment removed

  • @OldSchoolNascar -Skinner was number 31 when he drove for Lowe's..

  • @Griff88fan that is a 48 sign but it wasn't Jimmie. At this time he's in the busch series

  • @Griff88fan I think that is actually Frank Kimmel's pit board

  • @3fan4eva it is, pause it at :37, it's a 46 sign

  • @setoguchifan16 I know thats why Im sayin It's probably Frank Kimmel's pit sign because the day of practice for the cup race was probably the day of the ARCA race

  • @Griff88fan Honestly, I believe that is a #46. It is more that likely Frank Kimmel's #46 ARCA pit sign.

  • @BlueOysterCult87 You would be correct! :O

  • @BlueOysterCult87 it is...

  • @Griff88fan that's 46, not 48 im pretty sure....

  • @Griff88fan that funny bc jimmie johson was not ever in cup in 98'

  • @Griff88fan I believe its Frank Kimmel's #46 from Arca that year.

  • @Griff88fan That's Frank Kimmel's #46 pit sign :)

  • @Griff88fan: Jimmie wasn't even in NASCAR in 1998... It's Mike Skinner's pit...

    Jimmie debuted late 2001...

  • @Griff88fan it's actually Frank Kimmel's #46 sign, but it does look close to a 48

  • @ogarek no it's jimmie johnson's. Johnson was a rookie in 98' I believe

  • @Griff88fan that's 46 dumbass

  • @Griff88fan dude jimmie wasnt even in nascar in 1998

  • lucky he wasn't killed in this one...I feel bad for Park, DEI might still be awesome if it wasn't for the most ridiculous luck in accidents...indeed Park is the most unlucky driver ever

  • he is the most UNLUCKYST driver of all time

  • Steve Park had some terrible luck with crashes.Beat him up pretty bad.
