Anyone that thinks Russia is doing great has not been there. I just got back and its a shithole. They have nothing; Russia is not even a third world country by the Wests standards. Russia is not doing "better" than the US or Europe by any standard, with perhaps the exception of the amount of debt owed by each. Look at the demographics... Russians live not nearly as long as Americans and Europeans, their total population is shrinking (like the Europeans)... there are quality of life issues to consider here, not merely hard economic balance sheets (and even in most of those cases, Europe and and the US are still doing better than Russia).
