hahal lol . her in canada we have albrta . so i no what the usa goes throug with the south but i must say the southern part of thr usa has changed in the last 10 to 15 years.
@986tornado Oh for sure, this show ran during the 80's. Dixie Cartner (Julia Sugarbaker's) character rocks ! She stands up for the underdog. I was sad to hear that she passed away a few years ago - she had a storylin arc on "Desperate Housewives" in 2007 when Bree first married Orson Hodge and was still as fiesty as ever ! lol
I Adore these women, these southern-Women....Mizz Julia, especially- for she speaks for ALL. Bless You, Dixie Carter, and Blessings to All the Women of the South!
I'm from the south (well Maryland, although it's considered a southern state) and I remember someone asked me what side my crazy people were from. I love deja vu!
Somehow this speech has morphed a little in my family, to "This is the south. We don't hide our crazy people up in the attic; we bring right down into the parlor and set 'em up on the divan to show them off."
Does anyone have the clip where Julia goes on a rant at the young floozy trying to steal her boyfriend...where she says she's never seen compost tied up in such a pretty package?
Yes!!!, so so true!!!, and I will truley miss this woman, shows like this will live on forever, and nothing will ever compare!, Rest in peace Dixie, you will be missed.
I love this show, I loved the comedy, Dixe Carter was the best. All of them were the best, and I miss them all, bring them back you nitwit executives (network). The Christmas Tree Outfit was the best, reminded me of Carol Brunnett's Gone With The Wind episode. Her with the curtains draped across her shoulders. If only Clark Gable or Vivian Leigh had been alive. I bet Lawrence Oliver was alive then and I bet he laughed his head off!
As a southern woman, I must say. This is by far my favorite saying. I heard this once I watch this epd. And from there on out. I used it often. Both sides of my family and when holidays comes, we always have great things to talk about. heheee
Dixie Carter passed away on April 11,2010.will be sadly missed.Dixie was the the very fiber of what a true southern lady was...she was kick ass southern and frilly, fancy southern..
"We're from the south and we're proud of our crazy people"...LOL love it!! I'm from the deep south, so this is funny to me!! Rest in peace, Ms. Sugarbaker, you will be missed.
As a southerner, it's the danged truth. We are proud of who and where we come from because it creates who we are. Julia simply boiled it down to something every can relate to and why we're not ashamed of it.
This may be my very very VERY favorite moment of Designing Women! Whether from the North or the South, there are always those who are "teched" in the head. Long live the memorie of Dixie Carter as Julia Sugarbaker! LOVE YOU!
So true! I'm from the south and we don't call our crazy people crazy, we say they're "a little touched" or simply "touched in the head". Everyone knows exactly what that means. LOL. Bless their hearts.
I'm a northerner from Jersey currently in Florida but my family linage is from North Carolina and every other member of my family is crazy and that just the way we like it
There are plenty of "crazy people" here in Canada too. They aren't yet accepted as they are in the South or elsewhere in the US, but the attitude is a lot more open minded and tolerant than before, thanks to public awareness ads and literature.
there's crazy people everywhere. from new england down to the deepest south. it's just a matter of how they are treated. plus some non crazy people are just kinder, more warm/tender hearted than others. in other words, u got got nice, caring people and u got nasty, selfish types who won't be bothered with anyone.....
i like the one where the falcon player is mad at anthony because he won't sleep with his wife. anyway, anthony claims charlene's family as his own, and introduces them all.
word for word from Julia...we never ask in the South which side ...never..that would be rude!! we just assume you have someone that has been, came from or perhaps..are going to the "nervous hospital" always ask how they are doing and always ALWAYS...."bless their heart!"
It is a TV show. Left wingers from Hollywood
