I watched the video you suggested. I think it's overly harsh, especially considering her background outside of the royal family. She's adjusting, and doing a much much better job at it than anyone I know could possibly do. The standards are ludicrously high for someone in her position, much much more so than for a princess in, say, the British royal family (yeah yeah I know). She still plenty of glamor and sophistication - a social gaffe or two certainly doesn't take that away.

I agree. I recently read that now infamous biography on Masako, it wasn't very well written, but I did come away from the book feeling sorry for this deeply unhappy woman. It's sad that as the wife of the future emperor, her only worth is through her producing a male heir. Even more so when it is the one thing she is unable to do.
