  • i`m sorry does`nt cut it for me, these people make me sick with their pathetic excuse of why the want to dump their pet..wake up you morons a pet is for life, not for when you get sick of it, they deserve so much more credit than that..and i would`nt be surprised if these so called sorry people go out and get another pet and do the same thing repeatedly...you disgust true pet lovers worldwide..and shame on you and your pathetic excuses..

  • My landlord just found out. You should have checked the policy out before you got the dog.

  • @jonadams07

what are you supposed to do? The responsible thing but NOT getting an animal until YOU are stable enough to provide a lasting home. A pet is a commitment, not an accessory.

  • A**H*les....You always have excuses. When I got divorced I was forced to move too. It was impossible to find a rental. I ended up stuck buying an overpriced lot in a crappy neighborhood (literally, cops around all the time, wife beating druggie next door, etc.) cause I promised the dog I got from a shelter 5 years ago that he would NEVER have to go back to one. If you can't keep the dog/cat because of these excuses, you aren't trying very hard! There is NO EXCUSE!!!!! EVER!!!!

  • While alot of these exscuses are ridiculous...if you have to survive by living in a an apartment or house with the rule that there are no pets allowed then what are you suppose to do? My job requires me to move over an hour away and live in a house with no pets... This is ridiculous.

  • If I could I would take every animal I could this video upsets me because animals are loving animals and they are dependent on us. Our decisions affect them the most.

  • this video is a wake up call, i seen an excuse tonight on kijiji about someone giving up their dog. i dont understand how someone can blame a pet for their problems saying the animal is ruining their lives. it was your choice to buy your pet, you wouldnt give an child with problems away would you. gosh i wish some people would think hard before getting a pet. animals are not toys they are living creatures too.

  • my belief is,if you take that animal you owe it for life they have no say so on whats going to happen to them only a human does.remember there like kids they need food and vet care but most of all they need love.so if you dump them then you never loved them

  • I work at a rescue and I hear this all the time.

  • I work in a busy veterinary hospital where we deal with a lot of local rescue/foster organizations. When When dogs are abandoned for these stupid reasons, they end up coming to us. The ones who are socialized or trained have a chance at good lives, but the ones who aren't end up with fears and aggression issues that make them unadoptable. In those cases, our vets are forced to be executioners. So wrong and so very sad. If you aren't ready to make a lifetime commitment, please, do not adopt!

  • @InflatiblePalmTree u may think this is retarted but everyday people do this. This is so common now days that million dogs have to die every year. and all they have to say is a stupid excuse and that i am sorry. They all think that shelters are better place for animals but they don't understand that they send them to their doomplace.People need to wake up!! i don't believe any human would have done that to their babys! and to me dogs are babys they have a soul and they need to learn like babys do!

  • This is retarded. What kind of idiot would say anything like that? >_>

  • I love dogs!

  • I am the proud owner of four wonderful dogs. Two toy poodles: Dixie and Diva, and two labs: Dawn and Bo, they are my world, my children and I would do anything in my power to make sure that they are happy and healthy just as I would if I had children. It's a shame that people will go to such lengths to come up with excuses for not taking care of their pets. To me that's just as bad as not taking care of your own child, be they yours or adopted, or whatever. People, wake up and THINK!

  • i lived in Germany, and our friends had 2 dogs. They were moving to America and they had to get rid of the biggest one :( Molly, luckily, Is with us now and safe. We took her in. Then my mom found a divorced couple deciding, the dog or the kids. They got rid of duchess, and we took her in :) Molly and duchess are 2 goldens, then we moved to Virginia. We got a pit bull, Zoe, from the SPCA. We are a loving family now with 3 dogs that were abandoned, and 3 cats that were abanded too. THINK PEOPLE!

  • i'm embarrassed to be a member of the human race.

  • I lost my home several months ago. I had no job. I had 4 kitties. I crated them and took them along, every night I'd sit in the dark and cry because we had no home. My neighborlady said, "Stay with me." She has tiny house and 2 dogs-I didn't think I should impose 4 cats on her. I took two to the local shelter. I have terrible guilt about surrendering them, visit 3 times/week. The staff at the shelter takes excellent care of the 2, they're quietly caring for them til we can be a family again.

  • @Sprvixn Aww, I hope you get 'em back! :(

  • sad.

  • WHEN I HAD TO MOVE I WAS LOOKING HOR A HOUSE THAT MY PETS WOULD BE OK TOO .I CANNOT UNDERSTAND THAT !

  • Some people are ignorant assholes. I'd rather sell my house live on the side of the road and use the extra money to feed and take care of my animals then give them to a shelter where they will probably die. I can't believe how many animals die without homes. And if someone ever threatened the existence of my animals or hurts them, they can kiss there sorry ass good bye, I could much more easily hurt another human then an animal if I needed to.

  • This is sooooo true....just look at all the ads posted under "Pets" on Craig's List!! Everyone has an excuse and is sorry!!!

  • Assholes! Hope you burn in hell! :-(

  • Thank you so much for saying what so many ignorant people need to hear! This is the message so many people need to understand before they take on that adorable puppy without realizing the commitment they've made. A relationship with an animal is like a marriage; It is so rewarding, irreplaceable and an experience only truly understood when felt for ones self. Most importantly, its 'till death do we part.' The meaning of 'puppy love' needs to change; it is an unconditional bond, not temporary.

  • I too am sorry... Sorry that I can't offer all the unwanted pets of the world the love and affection they deserve.

  • You just made this animal lover shed tears as she does with almost all Animal Videos. However this one is Truely Heart warming. I see too much of this, JUST by volunteering at my local humane Society. A pet is suspose to be a friend for life. I know I'd never abandon My girls (Two Chocolate labs), They are my life, My friends, and I consider them My Family.

  • see 2:38 100 times before you get a dog

  • PPl don't realize that puppies grow up. Dogs and cats grow older and need more care just like older ppl. No excuse is a good excuse to abandon a animal who has grown to love you-to depend on you. PPl need to be responsible for their actions!! Dogs/Cats are not toys ot things to get rid of once they become a nuisance. They are living, breathing, feeling beings who deserve to be loved and cared for.

  • 68 people are the ones making the excuses and saying their apologies.

  • WTF DOGD GIVE BACK SO MUCH MORE THEN THEY TAKE, rotten people, people Suck !.

  • there IS zero tolerance for this. all of your sob stories belong on this video.. "sorry i didn't feel like trying for you." i've been through hell, through MANY "unexpected situations" where most people have given up their "beloved pet". there's always a way if you're willing to put forth the effort. my little chanel has never left my side. i made a commitment when i rescued her to be her forever home and maybe it doesn't mean anything to you, but to me forever means the rest of her life.

  • I work at an animal shelter and you here these excuses all the time, it's sickening. Sometimes you do have to open your mouth and stand up for these animals, which i have a few times. A lady returned a dog that she adopted from us a few weeks ago and her excuse was that her doctor said since she was pregnant she couldn't own a dog. We all told her to get a new doctor cuz he has no idea what he is talking about, u can even own a cat with being pregnant, just wash your hands, people make me sick.

  • To all of you that doubt this video for whatever your reasons, you should take your dumb asses to your local shelter and have a chat with the people who work there...and if you live in NYC go to Brooklyn or Manhattan and learn about what happens there..every day anywhere from 10-20 dogs are put down EVERYDAY for these same lame reasons.. if you know the landlord doesn't allow pets, why try to sneak one in when you know damned well he/she is going to find out..

  • Beautifuly done.I have a husky and no matter what where i go she goes and if she goes i go.We cant be apart the is no way.She follows me every where. Before my husky i had a elbino german sheperd. She was the best dog ever!!!She followed me everywhere. And then she became protective anyone or anything that came next to me she would bite. When i came home from school one day she was gone my grandfather took her and dropped her off on the side of the road. i looked and looked but no Shelley:(

  • I have to agree with silvergenko-"...the reality of the world is that shit happens". I have 4 kitties. The landlord gave me 28 days to move-HE needed a place to live. The kitties and I went to my parents-BIG MISTAKE! The old neighborlady took us in-she has 2 large dogs. Tried to find a place for them to go-nothing. Two kitties went to the shelter-thankfully, the director is wise & compassionate-she is keeping them healthy, happy and safe til I can pick them up. I cry every night for them.

  • I am a dog, NOT a thing to be discarded like a piece of old furniture, when I have become broken or old, or when you move to a new home and decide I no longer fit in. I am your most loyal companion, even when you beat me or starve me, I still love you unconditionally. And if need be, I would protect you with my life. I would NEVER think to abandon you, please THINK before you abandon me!

  • I am a dog (or cat or whatever), NOT a thing to be discarded like a piece of old furniture, when I have become broken or old, or when you move to a new home and decide I no longer fit in. I am your most loyal companion, even when you beat me or starve me, I still love you unconditionally. And if need be, I would protect you with my life. I would NEVER think to abandon you, please THINK before you abandon me!

  • Why do the people keep saying that they are sorry?

They aren't one bit sorry. Anyone who purposely gets rid of their dog, or other pet, is not sorry. What a bunch of POS liars!

When you get a pet, it is a family member, and should remain with you until death does you part.

And, if you get rid of your pet, get rid of the bratty human kids too.

I hate anyone that takes their pet to the shelter, where it will most likely be killed. They are evil, and don't deserve the love a pet can give.

  • Brilliant video and definitely gets the point across. No animal should have to suffer for your stupid decisions. Period.

  • I thought long and hard before I got another fur baby. My Springer died in 2003. Now I was a widow living in a rental. Two years ago I bought a Toy Poodle for my daughter on her 15th birthday. No matter how broke I am I can afford to feed him GOOD food.

  • Excuses Excuses! You know how many HOMELESS people keep their dogs and feed them first! I moved to a more expensive place in the country just so I could keep my Saint Bernard and not listen to people complain about me having a big dog!

  • What a sad but powerful video. I wish more people would see this! It's sad when it really is out of a person's control that they have to give up a pet, but people need to know what they're in for BEFORE they make an addition to the family. Wonderful video. I hope it gets spread around more.

  • @tjcazer my dogs ARE my kids so I completely agree. If something happened unexpected, I'd do ANYTHING to keep my dogs with me. And if I absolutely had to find them a new home, I would NOT send them to a shelter that is already overflowing with animals. It's ridiculous.

  • fuck that i stuck with my lab anyone can do it if i could

  • @TheBlackScizor i feel the same. my chihuahua and i had moved 16 times in a year, we lost a few places because of her, but my commitment to be her forever home is true. i'm happy to see others who feel the same.

  • Who in the right mind could dislike this video?! It is absoulutely beautiful.

  • God, this pisses me off. What irresponsible jackasses!

  • there are no excuses to put animals in a shelter. These are all heart broken dogs, they need everyones help... Dont buy a dog, adopt one.

  • This is why I can not work at the intake desk at the shelter and better for me to just be with the dogs, especially those that are so confused, scared. One "excuse" I didn't see on here but I do see at the shelter (and it drives me crazy!) is the "Our NEW puppy doesn't like her" or vice versa, then in the dogs description they say how loyal & dependable the dog is. That breaks my heart everytime. It's as if they're just trading in a vehicle for a newer model & seem to not even CARE! Great Video!

  • @ tjcazer, yes it does, my best friend since elementary school was abandoned by his parents when he was in the fifth grade, he walked home from the bus stop one day and found a box with his belongings outside of an empty house that was full he lived in that morning.

  • Most of these comments sound so robotic...the 'reality' of the world is that shit happens to people all the time, and NO one, human or animal, is safe from it. The 'Zero tolerance' concept about this gets on my nerves. People don't always get what they want, even if it's to keep their beloved pet. If I had the choice at 8 years old to keep my first dog, Buddy, I'd have done so. You gonna blame me because my parents messed up and had to rehome him due to circumstances no one expected?

  • @silvergenko - what a sour individual you are.

  • @silvergenko I agree with you there. Some of the reasons for not being able to keep their dog are valid. I know of somebody who had to give up their beloved spaniel because her aggressive ailing father in law moved in with them who liked to torture the dog.

  • Were this phone calls like all set up or was this like real? I agree with tjcazer. The Housing Shelter would be better.... I didnt realize he needed go to the doctor this much... We travel too much... I didn't know they were this much work!....I no longer have the time...We are remodeling.... We had a baby. We're getting a diviorce....

Hmm this kind of relates to Can't get there from here by Todd Strasser

  • @DRYKJ17 Yes, there are calls like this. On a regular basis. My group gets sometimes several calls/emails a day about things ranging from found animals, to moving, to new babies, to children turning up allergic, to all sorts of things. And we are a small group. 5 primary foster homes, a handful of other volunteers, plus those who volunteer until the cat/kit they want to be adopted gets adopted.

  • There is always time for an animal. There is always room for an animal. There is always enough love for an animal. There is just not enough compassion in humanity. Without the love and the life-long commitment my pets have made to me, I would be a lesser person. I owe them so much it doesn't fit into words. Selfish people get pets and then give them up as if they had no soul. They will learn the flaw in that assumption someday and be stricken by their blindness.

  • heyy this is soooo sad i wish my dad would watch it sometimes he say this shiz!! i have dogs that need 2 b adopted! plz go check out my vids and my website you might like em or want em...

  • yeah, you're all "sorry" alright. animals have feeligs and hearts that can be broken just like people.

  • blame landlords with no pet policy's... if they didn't exist neither would this video

  • don't buy. adopt! buying pets especially from petshop only encourages puppy mills and irresponsible breeders, and more animals will suffer.

  • I'm sorry.......a lot of pathetic excuses, from a lot of pathetic excuses for people.

  • I don't know who could POSSIBLY dislike this video that shows the cold hard truth!

  • So freaking sad. That clip made me cry cos I know how bloody true it is. I hate how humans think they can say sorry and use some pissweak excuse to dump their pet, its just bullshit, If you can't commit for 10++years, don't get the animal in the first place.

    A beautiful hard-hitting clip - THANK YOU!

  • Humans are the alpha species? Doesn't bode well for the planet.

  • In Maricopa County, the death toll rings at about 60,000 annually. With over 150 dogs and cats entering the shelters each day, its so sad to see this happen.

  • people without conscience, soul

  • @rugbchamp:

I am a student at Iowa State university, and I am also a part of a large student group named Students Helping Rescue Animals. This particular video has caught our eye.

We were also wondering if you would grant us permission to use this video on our club website. :)

We won't do anything to your video, we will link you back to our page, and we will give credit where it is due.

Let me know! Thanks bunches! <3

  • Wonder if these excuses apply to their kids....hmmm Sorry can't take you with us,

sorry we're moving-can't take you, I didn't think it would cost so much at the Doctor's,

I just don't have time for them anymore.....irresponsible and selfish behavior is what it is...

  • All that's bullshit. If you can't care for the dog why'd you buy it in the first place? No, the shelter won't find them a better home you bitches.

I'd die before I'd surrender my dog to a pound and that's the cold hard truth.

  • I worked in a shelter and all these excuses I have heard time and time again.

I got Divorced and I was left with nothing but my car, clothes and cat and I refused FOUR offers to live with friends because they told me I had to re-home my kitty.

He is my cat not some toy I can just throw away and I now live in a great home with a great new husband who I informed before I moved in with him that either the cat comes with or I don't come at all and my cat and I have been together ever since.

  • People need to think- "This is an 8-18 yr (depending on the breed) commitment. It's like having a child stuck at age 3-4, you need to feed, excercise & love them unconditionally as they love you. You are the 1 who has to clean up the messes, take them to the vet and arrange care if you want a vacation. And thats just when they are healthy.

A dogs companionship is totally worth it!

But people need to realize this is a living, loving being who deserves reall thought before you bring them home."

  • They didn't have "The dog doesn't match the furniture"

I remember volunteering at my local shelter and hearing everything listed at least twelve or thirteen times, and our shelter was tiny. Every time I heard it, I just wished the people would stick around long enough to follow me through 'the dog ally' and into the room where their dog/puppy would be put down.

  • @sanswutap They should have been required to see the reality of their frivolous decision.

  • I've had my old girl since she was weaned. I had to spend three winters in my camper because I couldn’t find a place to live that would allow dogs. She's now 13.5 and has bad hips but I would never even think of getting rid of her. She's been a loyal companion all her life and I owe it to her to keep her comfortable till the end.

  • I always thought I was a responsible pet owner but I wasn't. In hindsight I can see all the mistakes I made except for surrendering a pet to a shelter. Now that I have rescued 4 greyhounds I know what it takes to be a responsible pet owner and I am so glad I learned!

  • Irresponsible pet owners will not change until the laws change. People who dispose of their dogs shouldn't be allowed to have kids. Laws have got to be passed & public awareness of the abuse & abandonment rate should be shoved down every aspiring pet owner’s throat. Just like drivers have to pass a test to drive, wannabe pet owners should be required to take a pass or fail class prior to being allowed to own a pet.

  • people really need to think about getting any type of animal before they get one. frigen idiots need to be treated how they treat there animal

  • This is a great video. I have a dog I adopted from an animal shelter four years ago. She was two years old when I adopted her and I am her fourth owner! Her first owners got rid of her because they had a baby, her second owners said she ran away too much (I've never had a problem with this) and her third owners were abusive and had her taken away when the neighbors called the Humane Society. Their loss is our gain, she's a great dog and we're happy to have her.

  • Awesome message. People get pets and don't realize the commitment. It is like having children and it confuses the dogs so much when they get bounced around from home to home

  • people suck "The dog is truly a gentleman, when I die, I hope to go to his heavan, not man's"

  • There are no excuses to get rid of a dog. I don't know how many times we have moved, ran out of money for food, or been homeless. Our parent even got divorced! Yes, she got old and developed diabetes(she was a special needs, albino, dog anyway!), but we just had to adapt. We adopted her, as old as she was (7), and we seen her through to the end, until she was almost ten years old.

  • THANK YOU! It's about time someone showed the excuses/apologies people make for not keeping the animals they so "desperately" wanted to start with. I wish someone would make one of these for cats, too!

We hear all these excuses and more, EVERY DAY!

THANK YOU SO MUCH -- The Volunteers and Staff of TigeraCat Rescues.

  • if you get a dog dont be cold hearted and leave him/her on the streets youot this dog because youre bored and have nothing else to do and think it would be a great idea for the kids or the house if its a puppy you train it but dont just throw on the streets but you got the dog and by doing that you pretty much putting it as another child in the family

  • When I was little I always wanted a dog, but my parents said no. Now that I'm 24, I'm glad they made me wait. I understand the time, money and work in caring for a puppy. While my current dog is a handful, I can't imagine giving her up for any reason. I'd live in a car with my dog first before I'd move to a house without her. I'll willingly give up a lot of things to make sure she eats and gets vet care. It's just like having a kid. You can't just throw them away when they inconvenience you.

  • Why U guys Always say sorry, Look @ Em eyes they have a heart like U. TT TT

  • Animals are a commitment. If you can't commit, then don't get one in the first place. The truth is they deserve as much love and respect as you would give a human. Too many people seem to think that they are expendable at whim. That is pure sickness. They must be LOVED until death takes them. PERIOD!!!

  • Thank you for making this video.

    Well done!

  • GREAT Video!!!

    Thank you for this work!!

  • Thank you for this video

    its a masterpiece

    a complete masterpiece

    Jamie Glaser

  • OMG So true and SAD Great way of putting this together:)

Thanks for the work you do

  • the question is: would you just give away your son or daughter? a dog is your child.

  • I cried.

Oh and 63 people have no hearts...

  • For the first time in 5 years, the wife and I got a baby sitter (In-Laws) to watch our dogs and cats while we went away for 1 night. If there is a function and the dogs can't come, we don't go. Sad but true :-)

  • Our dog is a part of our family. We always consider her needs when making decisions. Great video. We have added it to our DogBlog.

  • What makes this sad is that so many people do this. I wish people would be liiscenced for dog ownership. Poor sad pups.

  • @hoodethunk What makes this sad is that one person does this.

  • Omg, I totally cried while watching this. This is so sad, and so true. My best wishes out to every pet that is suffering, homeless, or anything else that prevents them from having the best life they deserved. <3

  • Had to post on my Facebook.

  • I wanted to cry from watching this! So sad but so true! please don't let some lame excuse cause one of your "family members" to be given away, MAKE IT WORK! That's just cruel. what has your animal EVER done to you?!

  • Wow very good! I hate stupid people that don't think before getting an animal! If you can't commit to that animal for 15 yrs at least do not get it! And get it fixed!! Don't think you can just get any old GSD for example and breed it with another GSD to make yourself money! It takes alot more than that and the best dogs come from the shelter for a small fee. I picked up a 7 yr old Dobbie from the shelter that was abused and neglected and he is the best dog I could ever hope to find!

  • Oh, I love this. I love animals and cannot imagine ever doing that to my precious dogs. I'm the kind of person that would dive into a frozen lake to save my puppy.

  • Great video, but you forgot one..."We got the dog for our son/daughter but they don't want to take care of it anymore" As a rescuer I get so tired of hearing all of these excuses!

  • Great Vid. Sad but True.

  • This is so sad! But so true! Wake up America! Keep your pets!

  • Remodeling? We just had a baby?

These people should be spayed and neutered.

  • I hate pepole that give there Dogs and animals away!!! its so sad!!!

  • Gods most loving creatures on earth. So much ignorance in the world. But it does happen. It just makes me sick!

  • you can't exonerate breeders. they ARE responsible for over 25% of shelter animals. if breeders AND lame excuses would stop the shelter overcrowding problem would go away.

  • @lschopf No, we are not. I have never put a dog in a shelter nor have any of my owners. I take every precaution to keep my puppies out of shelters and none of my dogs have ended up in a shelter. If it weren't for responsible breeders like myself and my colleagues purebred dogs wouldn't be here today.

  • I posted it to my Facebook page. Wonderful video. We are their voice!!!!!!!

  • This is making the rounds on the *book.

Sadly, people don't say "I'm sorry" when giving up their family members (pets). As a proud "Dad" of two rescues, I'd never give them up.

  • Terrific video. As a rescuer I've heard all those excuses and more.

  • i burst into tears watching this

  • i hate people.

    I hate people.

    Sick creeps.

    People should go to pouds.

    They belong in concentration camps.

    Hitler as on to something.

  • ExcusesExcusesExcuses.

  • I''m sorry........it's just so hard to watch all the dogs left alone &in those shelters....C.A.R.E. Transport moves as many dogs ea week from just these very situations that have been accepted into many rescue groups in Denver Thk goodness they are there for so many Angels ! To me, they are all Angels & I am blessed to have met & worked w/so many in the midwest Each of them is a precious Angel. It's amazing how they KNOW they are safe now & going somewhere that welcomes them with open arms.

  • wonderful video. very moving :'(

  • i like this music video becouse i em emo

  • I have a broken heart. Tears are running down my face. This video really tells the story of irresponsible owners. Please spay and neuter your pet and when you adopt make sure it will be a forever home. It is OUR responsiblity.

  • :/ mt triste,

  • i'm sorry. sometimes i hate people.

  • There are families who, b/c of the economy, are taking their pets to shelters. They think it's their only option. It's not. They can go to Food Banks and get pet food and keep the family pet until circumstances improve. There is also free Vet help. Just do your research. On another note: you believe your dog or cat is the cutest pet in the world but other people may not and your pet's chance of getting adopted goes down precipetiously.

  • @lindaem2003 thats a great idea i never thought of that but i would never get rid of my doggies i love them too much to break there hearts like in this video did

  • When people surrender their dog to a shelter, it's an almost guaranteed death sentence. Shelters kill a lot of animals, and not many no-kill shelters and rescues take owner surrenders. People need to realize this. They're just trying to pass on their problem to someone else, and the pet is the one who pays the ultimate price with its life.

  • Having a pet is a big responsibility. Do the research, and don't dump that dog. What has this world come to?

  • Adopt me free from Pender County Animal Shelter in Burgaw, NC Call Darlene at 910-279-3196 or 910-259-1349 Email :DarleClew@aol. com

Just click on my name and I'll show you over 40 videos of dogs in real need of adoption in North Carolina.

My owner even adopted me and I will be in Pawprintsmagazine . com this May of 2010 - Phoebe . Another source is Petfinder . com

  • Great video. Now, if only people would listen before getting a dog.

  • All the excuses in the world isn't there :( how sad ! The only ones that suffer at the end is the animals ! To the dogs - I AM SORRY because there are so many stupid and irresponsible, cold hearted and cruel people in this world

  • I had to give up a dog once because he had medical issues that didn't allow him to live in the city. He went to a doctor out in the country. Not all of us give up their dogs because we're heartless. Sometimes it's more merciful to give them up. If you must, then please give to a no-kill shelter. This is easy to do in New England where I live.

  • As irresponsible as people who abandon their pets to shelters are, the most heinous are those who simply dump them on a country road. Euthanization is better than a lingering death from starvation, predation and disease.

  • OMG - most animals turned in are put down. Don't kid yourself that they will get a new home. Millions killed yearly. At least spay/neuter. Do not breed!

  • Such lame excuses...but all heard too often. I like the idea that one poster had of a shelter tax everytime you turn over your dog (or cat!)

  • This is a very well put together video, so sad and so true.

But unfortunately i think only people who care watch these videos, others that didn't care in the first place are to cold hearted to start now...I personally can't understand why anyone would abandon or mistreat there animal, if i am going through a hard time i find a way to continue to care for my dogs, they are my family, and i will do anything for them.

  • @iBreakable I am afraid you are right. Most of the people who watch this video are the ones who DO care and would never give up their dog, and the heartless ones who watch probably just think "see, other people get rid of their dogs too, so what is all the fuss about?".

  • The mentality of many americans is "we live in a throw away society"

If its not perfect, throw it away get another.

Dogs, cats, whatever you choose as a pet,

they are ALIVE, they are a LIFE, they are not property to just throw away !

  • When a lame ass owner gives away animal to shelter, if animal is not adopted in 2-4 weeks,

they kill your dog or cat !

Your animals do depend on you, they love you unconditionally, they are part of your family...

Kids arnt perfect, yet people dont abandon their ill mannered badly behaved brats

    over these lame excuses...

DONT ABANDON YOUR PETS OVER THOSE EITHER !!

  • that is so sad..but this is real...everybody suport this video...

  • There should be a 10$ shelter tax for every animal sold. Millions of unwanted pets end up at shelters...and never leave. People should be made to pay for their irresponsability.

  • Dear God, all of those excuses sound way too familiar...every one of them.

  • Spay and Neuter .. take responsibility ...!

  • ótimo video!

  • I'm SORRY- APOLOGIES just don't cut it !!!!!

Rescue is the way to go !!!!

  • Thank you for this. I am putting a link to it on our rescue site. Well done.

  • i took in another dog, someone left her on the street in traffic in town, it's crazy, i wonder how many i'll have after all this is over..if you talk to anyone whose worked at a shelter, you'd hurl

  • Great video....I work at a shelter and we hear this kind of thing constantly. It is so sad!

  • Great Vid! Yes, Worked there, seen it all, There's plenty more excuses where those came from. I'd like to personally thank all those assholes who don't think, for being responsible for my anger, depression, and drinking during those long days of caring when I tried to make a difference.

  • This breaks my heart, they love us unconditionaly, and we just throw them away. How cruel, what type of people do this to a family member.

  • What a great message. But the only people really seeing it are rescues and fosters. This is the type of message that needs to be on TV, where the general population will take notice.

  • @reggielvr123 , that's so true. Only folks who already care are going to bother watching this.

  • IRRESPONSIBLE UNEDUCATED people! ManKIND is an Oxymoron!! the same things happen to cats -- WHY WHY WHY? Where is compassion and RESPONSIBLITY???

  • Very well done- thank you for sharing!

  • Very well done. :)

  • Some of those excuses were so pitifully lame, it's tragic that they're actually used. "Too old?" OK, maybe someone will say that about you some day. I had a cousin who got a golden retriever, then didn't know what to do about the dog's exuberance. I asked if he hadn't researched the breed before getting 1. "No." Infuriating!

  • This video really hits home to me. I am a foster to unwanted JRTs. As I type this I have a 18 month old on my lap that is here because his owners were going to put him to sleep. Why, because they got tired of him. A week later they went and got another dog. I bet any money it will end up in a shelter or rescue before it is two. I'm tired of excuses. Point blank a pet is for the entire span of their lives. If you don't want that commitment DON"T GET A PET!!!

  • Made me cry. I can't get how people don't view animals as a ilfe time commitment.

  • birds too..

pets are not toys, don't people realize this?

  • That us gut wrenching, even more so than the puppymill videos! These were family dogs!

  • Wow very moving

    thanks you for posting this!!

  • We follow our puppies for their lifetime and would never allow any of our puppies to end up in a pound situation. We have taken back several of our puppies and found them responsible homes. That is what all breeders should be willing to do to avoid this!! Great video!

  • @wenkebach99 Totally agree! I'm a breeder, too (mini dachshunds) and my contract demands that he dog be brought back - at ANY point in their life time.

  • I love this video! Great job. I've been a volunteer for Cairn Terrier rescue for 15 years. I've heard all those excuses, and many more. They didn't mention "We're having houseguests who don't like dogs, I'm sorry." "We're putting new carpet in, I'm sorry." And of course, "He pees in the house! I'm sorry."

  • That's sad. Those arn't reasons to leave your dog at a shelter those are excuses. And my dad has a saying for excuses.

"Excuses are like ass-holes everyone has one."

I would LOVE LOVE LOVE a dog but i know it wouldn't be fair to get one when i don't have the time or money at the moment to get one especially with 2 rats and 2 cats.

THINK BEFORE YOU GET A DOG! (or any animal for that matter)

  • The whole saying (which is also said of opinions, but not in this case) is that they're like assholes; everyone has 1 & most of them stink.

Bravo to you for knowing that you're not able to accommodate a dog in your life right now! If only everyone had the sense you have to think it through beforehand.

  • This is a good video with a good message, and I would not take anything away from that. But let's not forget that as bad as dogs have it, cats are mistreated, neglected, abandoned, and unwanted in even greater numbers than dogs. Let's not forget them either. Bravo on this clip.

  • Thank you for also mentioning cats -- I have heard so many horrible excuses from people who abandoned their cats -- and believe me I do my very best to educate them as to what they are doing to an innocent being. I have opne shelter kitty and one of someone's "discards" too -- there were 18 kitties living near a highway -- they were all TNR'd - thank God (and thank the people who rescued them)_.

  • I agree, it needs to be put out ther for all to hear.

  • Really this video says it all! It's heart breaking!

  • This breaks my heart... I have 2 cats and 2 dogs, all of them adopted from shelters or rescue groups and they are all the best animals in the world as far as I'm concerned. I didn't go by who was "cutest" when I adopted, I went by "who's energy level and personality will fit into what I can offer?" If everyone did this before getting a pet, did their research on the financial, emotional and physical requirements (inc. alteration and vet bills) then we would all be better off.

  • Those who think breeders don't dump dogs don't go to the shelter often enough! Breeders have no use for "worn out stock" that don't breed, puppies that get too old to sell, and most breeders WON'T take back a pup they've sold. QUIT BREEDING, QUIT MAKING EXCUSES, ACCEPT YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES.

  • @cricket926 There are some awful breeders out there... very irresponsible. Fortunately there are some great, responsible breeders, too. All one has to do is do their research. If you don't do your research and buy from a back yard breeder or a puppy mill, that is YOUR fault and YOU are the one adding to the problem. Without the customers, BYB and puppy mills would not be around.

  • That isn't a breeder, that is a puppy miller/farmer. There is a huge difference. A responsible breeder accepts responsibility for their dogs for life. I have two dogs from a wonderful breeder. One of my dogs came back to the breeder from a family who weren't able to look after him anymore, and the breeder found him a new 'forever' home with us. She'd take back our dogs if anything happened to us. They will always have a home with her. The breeders I know rescue.e

  • @AnoukOksana Great post - totally agree! Good for your for doing your research and finding a responsible breeder!

  • Excellent video. Ive heard everyone of these excuses, often without an apology even. One thing missing is: "I just wanted to breed my dog one time so the kids could experience miracle of life- here are the leftover puppies, you deal with them" or just lazy idiots who never spay or neuter their pets and let them roam. Thanks for a great job on this.

  • The movie freezes at just after 2 minutes? But it is very powerful to now. I want to see the end!

  • We had a "rescue" Chihuahua for 16 years - she was 6 when we got her, the "mother" at a puppy mill and according to our vet "one of the most wornout dogs I've ever seen". Probably had a litter every heat since she first came in about 6 - 8 mo. She was the best - not a breed type but what a gal. Lived to 22 when we had to put her down because of throat cancer. Would have her back in a heartbeat.

Trouble, kids are touble but wouldn't give them up - - don't get me started. Our dogs-forever.

  • I grew up with the belief that a man's word was everything. I have no respect for someone who accepts the responsibility of pet "ownership" and then doesn'
