This is truly amazing. My grandfather was an old time fiddler. I really enjoyed this but I sure do miss my grandfather. So much wisdom. If I could listen to him talk one more afternoon...
The man was a living example of what being a simple man can do for you which is live to 100 and recite proverbs which I doubt most could do in this day in age..
wake up in the morning smell the bacon in the pan chillin havin biscuits with blackberry jam mommas in the backyard hangin close on the line grampas in his porch swing sippin home made wine i wouldnt change a thing we call it country living
@swinnbar he is an ol hilbilly...there aint nothing wrong with being a hillbilly..infact there should be way more of them around..deep in all of is a lil bit a hill billy
I had to sign in and say this before I go to work.....just watching this man and hearing him talk made my eyes well up and my throat knot up a bit. They don't make people like no more.
The negative remarks and jokes made earlier in past comments are people who doesn't even know Scott Stidham. He was a fine example of what we need in America..I know him and he was one of the kindest old men I have ever knew and he was always ready to help his neighbor out when they needed help. Not much of that going on any more.
I knew Scott Stidham personally. He was a fine Christain man...lived to be almost 100 years old.He was good to everyone in the community of Barwick,Kentucky.
bezmolvie, there are people who know there's another USA, who know that the evils of its government and multinationals and some of its misled violence-drunk people are not the whole story. I'm just one and maybe twenty more that are close to me. Some of the world's most peaceful people live there. We know and we don't forget.
What an amazing guy. It makes me sad that the rest of the world (and perhaps America itself) doesn't know that the US is not defined by its government and its policies. These people suffer from them no less than the rest of the world. Traditional America has been hijacked by "commercialism of the modern world" as freddiemabel said.
Awesome, takes me back to my youth. We visited thehills of KY every summer. I hated it. In retrospect it was beautiful! Too bad too many things in life aren't appreciated til they are gone.
I remember my father and I talking to Scott at an old country store in Breathitt County back when I was a kid, about 1985 or so. He was in his 80's then, and he got around better than we did!! He and my dad talked for about 15-20 minutes or so, but I remember being mesmerized by some of the things he said. I am so glad that I came upon this video on youtube!!

I absolutely love how you glorify the lives of these inbred, dangerous, incestuous hillbillies. You take the prospect of white-trash photography to a whole new level. It must be like visiting a petting zoo. Just remember to be careful, though. The retards can and do get dangerous.
Wow, Your whole image of these people comes from stereotypes and jokes on TV. Your view is more backwards than this man ever was. Outta put you in a petting zoo, you ape!
@AIIahuAkbar , what can I say? You are ignorant. It's amazing to me that there are people out there that are as stupid and backwards as YOU ARE. People that have such hate and say stupid a** things about topics they know nothing about. What else can I say? I've already wasted to much time on you anyway.......
@krispray This idiot is not even worth a comment! I love this vid and this beautiful music and prose.. The guys idiot Allah crap really has no place here. So good for you for at least trying to be diplomatic :)
@AIIahuAkbar You wouldn't know how to live this lifestyle. You aren't strong enough nor sound of mind to go forth as such. You speak so disdainfully of these people when you seem to be of a group of some of the Most sterotyped people of our generation and time? Are they anymore "backward" than some tent-dwelling mujaheddin idiot ranting about Allah and controlling the tongues of all your women? Check yourself. Or go live in the desert with your camels and your pathetic, epileptic prophet.
Great vid...Scotty Stidham seems like a wise and cool dude....I Just read Appalachian Lives last night. Wow images and stories were very rich. My new favorite photographer. Love What you've been doin in this great part of the country. Absolutely Amazing Lighting and composing!!! and what great people and culture to capture in a most understanding and compassionate way. Your an inspiration Shelby.
Wonderful!- great to see a real video- of real people and linking us to the past. Keep up the great work- this type of work will help mankind understand each other.
I love this video! Thanks Shelby, keep up the great work of showing us that life is what we make of it and that there are people out there who can exist beyond the crass commercialism of the "modern world"
