probably know now but I think instant locks are from missiles that were fired at something else missed and then locked onto you instead.

The instant lock has happened to me a few times.One reason is if your near a friendly plane or helicopter and they use flares, instead of the missile chasing the flares it will chase you.

I got a question for you. Love all your videos. Good Heli Pilot and Jet Pilot too. I always seem to get the enemy jet on my back and cant seem to shake him/her. Besides the up/down and Split manuevers, still cant get em off my back. What other ways to get em off ur back when in a jet? I have Radar on. Also, do you ever go below 300 speed when in a jet? I looked at ur videos quite careful and I never see you break below 300 speed. Thanks.

@Cornelp1 my decelerate button doesn't work. Dice can't seem to remap keys properly. Try bringing them over your base's aa gun or flying around obstacles. Sometimes its near impossible to shake em if they are really good pilots so team work is the only way to get rid of them.

@LevelCapGaming Good info, thanks. But how is it that you can keep up w em while u are not slowing down? Im just trying to figure out IF slowing down thru the turn is a good or bad idea. Many folks say its good to slow down in the turn, but so far I seem to loose the battles and the only action I keep doing the same, is the slow down thru the turn. Hmm, Ill try to keep my speeds like urs around 320-350 and turn and see what happens. Thanks...

@LevelCapGaming I wasn't able to remap my throttle and brake either. I tried everything form reinstalling and editing the config files, didn't work. I don't know if you already got the button to work, but there's a program called BF3 Setting Editor. It seems to do a better job at remapping keys and you don't have to go into a game to change them. It also has heavy break/hover and hover keys, which are hidden in the actual game. With that tool you can also change the spot key.

@Cornelp1 Try going up and down in and sort of sideways s pattern and then do a haf flip, the other guy will be struggling to aim at you so he wont be expecting the half flip, at least unless hes a good pilot he wont

@LordNethesis Hmmm will do. Ill try it again. I kinda set my Jets aside and planted my feet into Helis, which so far I been doing pretty damn good. Unless (Hardcore) the pilot lands the Heli and shoots me outa the Gunner seat, kinda dumb but each player to its own :)

The instant lock is something the recon class provides. They put out a thing that spots aircrafts and do the pre-lock for the squad members. At least im pretty sure :P

I'll be playing it before you seeming as I have PS3, but without a good tutorial or watching someone else do it I'll crash, I couldn't hit anything with the jet until I watched some of your jet videos, could fly the helicopters though, Little Bird ftw!

Well, you aren't bad, but the opposing team must have been a bunch of idiots, they haven't even tried locking you until the sixth minute and obviously had no capable jet pilots. I would make your life quite a bit harder with beamscanning and aa missiles.Nevertheless, not bad at all. The gunwork on the helos was quite good, as was the rocketwork on the AA tank.

Hey Levelcap, did you change the velocity of the jet during dog fight or just keep it on maximum speed? I know you use "Shift" when you got lock on, but how about following someone from behind?

You should throttle back when you are going in for heli kills. It gives you lots of more time to spam them with your machinegun. It's also safe if you dont got a jet on your ass

@Thengol he doesnt use s as throttle down. and he did slow down yes but not in the sense of an actual deceleration. you can see the enemy jets outturn him almost everytime but they were complete noobs as well.

@Thengol The jets turn tightest when decelerating into the turn and accelerating out of the turn. You can try it out: hold decelerate and you turn sharply, but when the turn rate starts to slow down, let go of decelerate and hold afterburner and your start turning tightly again.

Press S to slower the plane,and that helps to make very steep turns.It is very good to go away for the the enemy on your tail or to catch up the the enemy!

I am really surprised you stayed up so long since you (like pretty much every pilot out there) can't turn.

Whenever someone gets behind you instead of trying to do a vertical loop (never works as your opponent will get a shot at you at the peak of each loop), switch to cockpit view, pull a hard turn, and hold down throttle while tapping boost to keep your speed at 300.

Using this I have yet to lose a dogfight....in 5 stars worth of gameplay

@MRM0RT0N Yeah, that's the best advice i've seen on jets so far. Got that figured out the hard way. Most of the guys just don't know how to turn. I pretty much win every dogfight there is, unless I run into a good pilot who has mastered the same technique. It gets quite frustrating flying in circles unless a second jet gets there and busts his ass. (Or I get mine busted) :)

I was hoping you could do a video on circle strafing or circling one point while keeping your cross hairs and more importantly your gunners on target. I have seen videos of pilots using this tactic. The few so called explanation videos were low quality and rather vague. Anyways I was hoping you could help us out as I have seen the damage this tacit can do to another team.

nothing personal but in my opinion i feel that im cheating when i use 3rd person view, cause you have more visibility than in 1st person =/ by the way great video (0 deaths in a jet, cool!)

@cptfranco1 Well if Dice would allow you to use mouse look but still be able to control your jet then i wouldn't use the 3rd person view as much. Also you can play hardcore mode which doesn't allow 3rd person camera.

Good flying mate. Just wanted to give some advice.. may be old news for you but either way here it is :D if you hold the break as you start to make a sharp turn you will do so MUCH sharper and be able to get behind other jets quicker to line up your shot. as your turning while holding the decel button you'll notice your ass end slide for a split second. After this Max throttle & afterburner and youll pull out of it much quicker after making a much sharper 180. Props man!

@NostalgicLink I am assuming you have your own jet key settings as well? theres no comparison when youre turning alone but if youre with another jet you can see he outturn you. also worth mentioning you can clearly see enemy jets outturn lvlcap in this vid as well. they either didnt have air radar unlocked/ too much air dominance from lvlcap's team/ stupid not to do another turn.

reason is like I told lvlcap earlier only the s key works as decelerate on PC. regardless what key you set it as.

@Qjemuse No... I actually pick up my 360 controller when I get in a heli or jet... I can't fly with my mouse... I freak out when I accidently roll too much and always end up crashing. I just set it down when I'm in a tank or infantry. I know I CAN decelerate, because I can slow down enough where the landing gear will engage... it just seems like once a jet is behind me the fancy 'decel into a turn, boost out of it' doesn't work like it would normally. Shrugg*

@Annunakadidaki I'm not yet an expert on losing jets but i find it hardest to follow enemy jets when they turn sharp and change direction so i try that a lot at different angles.

@Annunakadidaki either fly low, and close to obstacles like mountains, i tend to go low to the mointain and the dip away behind it, if your high, try to flip-climbing. constantly fliping and climing at the same time. and make sure u time ur flares. or emc

I've been using your jet key setup and I find it easier too so thanks. but the problem is that we cannot decelerate (I set it to my left ctrl).

reason being the buggy game doesnt recognize anything but the default s key as decelerate....

are you not affect by this/ not noticed this/ or already found a way to work around this?

I am surprised you arent affected much by this... I do 2x or more semi turns exactly like yours (been studying other pro pilots as well) and I still get outturned then gunned down. to the point that I cant play jets anymore till they fix it.

@LevelCapGaming and also, try using extinguisher? of course it's a better choice with flares in this clip since the enemy team are being raped so bad.

but extinguisher helps to stay in the air much better from all those dogfights. who worries about stingers and lock ons anyway. good thinking dice....

stingers may be easy to dodge in jets but they are a proper pain in the ass in helis atm on console. especially as the range is huge. i can't wait till the patch is out on console
