I've not yet watched the video, just read the first few comments. Here's my all time Celtics list: Bill Russel, Bob Cousy, John Havlicek, Larry Bird, Dave Cowens, Robert Parish, Kevin McHale, Paul Silas, Don Chaney, Paul Pierce
@DougB33 I had him at #11 if that helps. Lol. Your not the only one who's mentioned him. If I could do it over again I'd put him up there. But who would you bump off? It's a tough cut.
Did i miss something or there is no Sam Jones ? Did you even watch any of Celtics game from 60's?? Sam Jones was 2nd most important player at that time second only to Bill Russell . At least 2 or 3 of those championships in 60's were won on his clutch shooting . Foolish vid .
@garioldwin You didn't miss anything. No Sam Jones. Who on the list would you have liked me to bump off in place of him? Sam Jones was a tough cut but it came down to him or Tommy Heinsohn. I felt that Heinsohn was better player. A lot of thought went into this so don't write off my video as foolish because you don't agree with it. Narrowing down all those great players to just 10 means tough cuts have to be made. Make your own video if you don't like it, then you"ll understand.
@DoctorColonelGonzo Yeah youre right , i went too far with foolish . I apologize . I would put Sam Jones 5th or 6th . I suggest that you watch some of the games from 60's celtics . When th Celtics were 10 points behind it was Sam Jones who usually hit 3 or 4 baskets in a row to get them back in the game not John Havlicek , Bill Russell or Heinson . I saw it myself in two diferent finals series .
@garioldwin That's incredible you got to see those guys play. I was born in 85' so I missed the golden years. I try to piece together the years I miss with old documentaries, game footage, and anything I can read to understand what it might have been like. I still tried to make a fair list following certain criteria. In the end it all comes down to personal preference. If I ever do a Top 15 or 20 Sam Jones would be up there, maybe even the top 10 because your not the only one who's mentioned him.
This is a really good video but I think that Larry Bird and Bill Russell should be reversed. Bill Russell was a great center but Larry Bird was an overall better player as far as scoring and teamwork.
@nickbourget93 Thanks for the feedback and your not the only one. But I just can't justify making Russell #2 when he's responsible for 11 championships. And his numbers weren't to shabby either, 15pts 25rebs a game and who's knows how many blocks. Too bad they didn't keep them in the records back then.
this is a great list besides the last two im a really big larry bird fan...and i also think luke walton shoulda been in this but besides that good job
@JAB281 Thanks for the good feedback. But I think you mean Bill Walton. Lol Luke Walton is his son. I love Bill Walton but no way was he making this list. He only played two seasons with the Celtics and was injured for most of the second year.
@DoctorColonelGonzo Thanks. I put Sam Jones as No. 6 because he had 10 titles and had so many very big Game 7's for the Celtics during their glorious run with Bill Russell.
John Havlicek was my 1st favorite player as a kid (and I only saw him in his last 3 seasons) but I think he must step aside for the great Bob Cousy, who was MVP once and truly revolutionalized the game. Also, before West and Oscar came along, he was the greatest guard in the history of the NBA. But man, do I love Hondo.
@Milordvega You make a good argument for Sam Jones. If I ever make a top 20 I'll have to place him higher up. I agree picking between Havlicek and Cousy was the toughest and so was picking between Pierce and Parish. You really can't go wrong either way. It's like what Larry Bird said about Magic and Jordan. He said if you were to pull their names out of a hat you wouldn't be disappointed either way. Same goes for this list.
@texfan80 In response to Bird being #1. What exactly did Bird redifine? Being a Celtic means putting the team first, hardwork, blue collar mentality, and a winning attitude. When exactly did being a Celtic ever not mean this? Being a Celtic was long defined before Larry ever joined the team. If anything he reinforced the philosphy that Red, Russell and those guys already had in place. Even if he did redifine the meaning. It doesn't make him a better player than Russell.
this list is so wrong...1.Bird 2.Russel 3.Mchale 4.Cousy 5.Parish! how can you have peirce higher than Parish? yes we all know that Russel has 11 championships but Bird redefined what is means to be a Celtic.
@texfan80 Russell is one of the most successful athletes in sports history. He's without a doubt the cornerstone to the Celtic dynasty and gave Boston bragging rights. He had two more MVPS than Bird, 8 more rings and was even a player/coach. The numbers don't lie. They both played 13 years with the team but Russell's contributions remain unmatched. Both are great players, but Russell is second to nobody in Celtics history.
i must say, i obviously thought i was going to disagree with this list cuz i usually do with peoples lists on youtube, but after watching this, i wouldnt change a thing. i have thought about this topic before and come out with the exact same list. masterful job.
