  • What does the Our Father say about Jesus decending to the dead and what did he say to the other crucified person on our point the cross? Your church is about a correct day and what the divine sacrifice, do this in rememberence of Christ.

  • @rikky702 The parable about Abraham is just that, a parable used to illustrate certain truths. It is not meant to be taken literally. And Jesus on the cross talking to the thief...read the original text. There were no punctuation marks in the originals. The comma changes the meaning of the whole passage if not placed in the correct position in light of the rest of scripture.

  • After Luther removed what.....6 books from the bible??? Yea, you might have a hard time finding a lot of scriptural support for the dogma of Purgatory. If you knew anything about Catholic theology, you would understand where it comes from. I'll continue to work out my salvation with fear and trembling.

    Peace~

  • It wasn't JUST Luther that removed those books. The Majority Text/Dead Sea Scrolls and Torah don't even support the books you are referencing and the quotations dealing with purgatory from those 6 apocraphyls do not at all mesh with the consistency of the rest of the Bible. I understand Catholic theology quite well. My entire family is Catholic. Take care.

  • The Septuagint contains the Deuterocanonical books, and is far older than the Masoretic Text, which was translated by Jews in the late 1st millennium. I don't think Jews from the Middle Ages (who reinterpreted some prophecies to point away from Jesus) should be dictating what books are in the Christian Bible.

  • Sorry you have no clue what you are talking about. Even the Catholic church has recently begun to use the Masoretic Text for translations of their bibles. It has nothing to do with Jews of the middle ages dictating anything. In the mouths of two or more witnesses let everything be established and the Dead Sea Scroll as well as Jewish Torah (even to this day) speak loud and clear for the protestant bible (KJV) versus those that use the Septuagint for it's translations.

  • Well, I am not Catholic so I cannot speak for Rome. Interestingly, many passages in the Dead Sea Scrolls conform better to the Septuagint than the Masoretic Text.

It is only logical. The Christians were using the Jewish scriptures against the Jews and prove Christianity. While most changes are within the realm of interpretation, there are some significant alterations.

  • I don't think you have really compared them if this is what you believe. The King James Version which was translated from the Masoretic Text, is almost 100% accurate in its translation when compared to the Dead Sea Scrolls. The same cannot be said against the Septuagint.

  • Funny that you would try and slander Jews, when it is Jewish Messiah that we claim to believe in and the entire early church was made up of JEWS to begin with before going and reaching the gentile world.

  • Don't be silly. I'm not slandering anyone, especially the Jews who became Christians in the early centuries. I am talking about the Jews who were trying to combat Christianity by reinterpreting the prophecies that pointed to Christ (changing a prophecy from "virgin" in Greek to "young woman" in Hebrew, for example)

  • Those are minor changes and nothing that dramatically alters the meaning of the words. People today do that all the time with modern translations and paraphrases. The main point is, you used this as an example though to try and insinuate that the Majority text was inferior to the Septuagint, when by all means it's actually the other way around. The Septuagint leaves off quite a bit of scripture that actually clarifies certain passage in the Old Testament. This is confirmed by many sources.

  • If you know anything about Judaism, it is that minor changes in words are in fact very major things. Deep discussion of such details is an important part of Jewish theology. Since Hebrew is a primitive language and words have broad meanings, these changes do make a difference.

  • What are ur beliefs cuz I feel as if we're not getting anywhere in this discussion. Yes I completely understand & agree that minor changes can impact the scriptures, but we are also to look at the BULK of scriptural evidence not just the individual words/structure to determine doctrine, etc) For instance, no punctuation in the Hebrew Greek.. placing a comma in the wrong place alters the meaning of Luke 23:43 ONLY if we just read the passage without taking into account many others. Context.

  • Comments "Pending Approval"? Show me you have the guts to post my comments.

  • childish

  • You'll believe in Purgatory should you be fortunate enough to wind up there. Purgatory is where you make restitution for your sins that were redeemed through the sufferings of Christ. It is a place of cleansing and restitution... and it is real. Souls suffer there, they need our prayers.

  • You have no basis in scripture for purgatory. NOW is the only time God gives for us to be sanctified and y relying on God to transform our hearts through prayer, worship, studying the Bible and willingly surrendering our lives to do His will through the indwelling Christ Jesus. Study the origins of the corrupt Catholic Bible versus what the dead sea scrolls, Torah and Majority text support = protestant bible (King James).
