Wow I got the xbox 360 slim and I have this connected to my Sony home theater system 5.1 surround and it sounds bomb ass I play call of duty black ops and you can hear all the shots coming from the back speakers which are the surround speakers but darn I'm playing zombies and when you get nuke you can hear that bass rattling your house
Anywayes I'm going to answer everybody's ? About optical and HDMI well if you have a home theater system with hdmi built in I recommend just getting a optical
For me I have a rather old surround sound reciever so I only have the av in ports so my xbox is pluged in via av witch sometimes sucks for night time play in my apartment in the middle of the night playin then the cops are bangin at your door cause its too loud lol but im too lazy to get splitters for it to run to my tv
I am using a yamah surround sound system with my xbox 360 slim.
my slim is connected to my Vivo TV by HDMI cable and my TV connects to the surround sound via those Red/White/Yellow cables. obviosley i dont need yellow.
But i cant get the sound to work! It worked before with the same set up, but i didnt do it and now i need help!
Is your surround sound the samsung HT-TZ512...if so i just bought the same unit and im having a problem hooking up my 360 to it...also im having an issue with te rear wireless speakers...did u have any problems getting the wireless to work?
@mrgeorge86 I didn't have any problems connecting mine. What exactly is wrong with connecting to you 360? And for the rear speakers, make sure everything is connected properly (colors match), make sure the wires are not freyed, and id check the wireless adapter that goes in the back of the receiver. Let me knoe if your still having problems!
@HurstVideos honestly i need to know what adapters to buy....its currently running off hdmi...but i know im gonna need an adapter...and am i going to need the optical cable as well??
as for the wireless speakers...honestly i cannot figure out how to set them up..there are two plug ins on the back of the wireless module...i dont know where to hook the wires that run from that...i bought it off ebay...i have the manual but its like reading spanish...also im not the best electronics man around
ok!!!!!! well i have a bluray hooked up w HDMI to my TV but the bluray is the "RECIEVER" and i cant work the reciever-bluray at the same time as my xbox :( other wise I have the same setup!!!!!??????????? PLZ ""HELP""
i have those same speakers and i did exactly what you did but i am not getting any sound at all, at one point i had it so that the front speakers would play surround sound but not the rear or center, and that was running it through the t.v. can you help me figure out what is wrong plz thank you
I have the same problem, I use hdmi... I've found that you can still reap the benefits of using an hdmi cable while using the component standard definition cable which gives you the surround sound by doing the following easy trick:
but the problem is my standard definition cable doesn't have an optical out, and I don't know which one to buy =(
right i have a question.. i picked up the brand new xbox slim not so long ago and it has a port at the back optical out this still is surround sound right? see im getting panasonic 5.1 with blu ray player next month and its not really for the movies its for the games as i would spend more time playing than watching so bascially i just want to know is the output still surround and where i can pick one of these cables up? plz wb be very helpful!
@Cinderella17 the setup should be correct. I'm not sure if there is another option with the audio. It depends on your outputs and inputs on everything
Hello I was wondering I have a projector, a home theater and a xbox 360 slim, I wanna know how to setup this'?? I can connect the projector with the hdmi cable to the xbox and my home theater only have the withe and red cable for audio I wanna buy an analog convert to optical so I can connect the optical from the xbox to the home theater, this will Work or not??? thanx
@Cinderella17 I'll be honest, I've never used an analog converter before. It should be able to work, it sounds like that's an option. I would say go ahead and try it, but I'm not guaranteeing it will work
I'm thinking about getting the new xbox 360 (the slimmer one) and i heard it has optical audio output in it so does that mean i can use the HDMI and the optical audio at the same time like for my ps3
the thing is that my xbox 360 in the new version and it doesnt have the digital input thing on the back so yeah thats going to be a problem thanks nice vid!
i bought an optical cable, then connected that from home theater reciever to my hdtv, now anything that plays on my tv works with my home theater, like 360, ps3, cable box, it was only 10 bucks, hope this helps.
no it doesnt. it only connects from the xbox to the sound system. the yellow and white carry sound from the tv to the xbox, and the optical cable carries sound from the xbox to the sound system.
If you are using a normal hdmi cable is there an input for the optical cable on the xbox? Or does it plug only into the back of the xbox brand hdmi cable?
you can buy a special AV cable that is sold by xbox. it is a little smaller, so it shows the hdmi port on the xbox and allows you to plug in the optical cable. Another way (but not recommended) is to pry off the bottom of the standard AV cable to expose the hdmi port.
hey thanks man. i connected the red and white cables of the ps3 to the back fo the home theater system, and then the yellow to the tv, and it worked.
i have a 360 too, but i need a cable that allows me to separate the the yellow, red and white connectors from each other. luckily the ps3 connectors do that, but the 360's dont. i need to go to bestbuy and find some connectors that can be separated.
i actually found out how to do it without buying the cable. all i did was move the home theater closer to the tv's back, and i was able to plug it in.
thanks for the help man.
if you ever want to play on xbox live add me: D3CONQUISTADORS
ok i need help i may sound stupid but i have a pretty new 32 inch samsung lcd tv and i don't know where to hook it up in the back so yea, i noticed you also had a samsung so im just asking you where to hook it up in the back.
Are you trying to hook up your xbox to the tv? if so, plug in the the cords in coordination with the colors. (i.e. red plug goes into red input). if you don't have an hdmi cable (gives better picture quality), you may want to buy one of those and hook up your xbox with it.
you have to buy a special AV cable that is sold by microsoft for the xbox. or you can pry off the bottom of the curent AV cable so it exposes the hdmi port (not recommended :D)
dude this helped so much because i have the same system and a samsung lcd, do you know by any chance how i can get surround sound with my digitle cable box though, cuz that is really annoying me.
what you will have to do is hook up your tv to the sound system. all the cable box does is just supply the tv with picture and sound. if this doesnt work just tell me
btw for the pple dat have the latest xbox elite (2009 holiday bundle), you'll have to go out and get yourself a 'Optical/RCA Audio adapter'. THEN you'll have to get the optical TOSLINK cable and plug it into that adapter.
Microsoft decided to leave out the HDMI cable and that adapter in the holiday bundle so you hav to buy a HDMI cable along with the Optical/RCA Audio adapter separately.
CMON MICROSOFT! WE WANT HIGH DEFINITION OUT OF THE BOX!
you can plug the xbox to the tv with an hdmi while still using an optical cable for the sound. you will just have to buy the special av cable because the regular one blocks the hdmi port
Would you be able to do this if your equipment is say in another rooms closet about 35 feet away but all of the speaker wires and everything are already hooked up
But I was wondering, will the controllers be in range and could it also be an hdmi cable or is it just digital audio? Thank you
you can do it the same way even with hdmi cable right? the hdmi from the xbox to tv and the optical digital audio cable from the xbox to the home theater?
you won't be able to listen to the xbox plugging it into the output on your tv. if you are wanting to listen to surround sound while playing xbox, this is the only way to do so.
what you will need to get is a specific A/C cable that microsoft sells. it is smaller and does not cover up the hdmi port. this will allow you to use the optical digital audio cable while still using the hdmi cable. its the same a/c cable but just not as fat lol. But I have also heard of people prying the bottom of the original A/C cable to make it fit. (i didnt do this)
im gonna set up surround sound, low lighting,(already got d a couch),and get me my gaming chair cuz i like it next to a couch and play afro samurai til i get every schivement and beat the game, dont forget the doritos and grape canned pops and actual grapes
is 5.1 channel the max on a 360 or can u do 7.1 channel? i was wondering because i have a center, front left and right, surround left and right, and sub zone left and right, and the sub woofer and went i went to my 360 sound options, it didnt appear.
I'm not quite sure. Look and see if you can use an audio cable (like the one in the video). If you can, it would be worth a shot. If the xbox doesn't support all of the speakers, I guess you could try disconnecting two. Sorry I couldn't be much help.

Can this work still if your using an hdmi cable to connect it to your tv?
dsecondbase 2 years ago
yes it works if you connect the xbox to your tv with an hdmi cable. But you have to buy a different A/C cord because it covers the port
