@stilesp1985 - "fun" means different things to different people. To some people, the chance of hurting one another is what "takes the fun out of it." And to some people, the chance of hurting someone, getting sued, and having your organization outlawed is what "takes the fun out of it". There are many kinds of combat games, some of which are more hazardous than others, but Dagorhir strives to be safe as well as fun.
I don't understand the color thing. Everyone here seems to have black tape. Also, that guy with the long curved weapon seems very over-zealous, especially with such a lame weapon combination. Would his attitude and/or that weapon combination be allowed at actual events?
@randoth357 it is light and strong, but not strang enough, when blocking withthese wepons, they go under a lot of pressure and the bamboo would break after a match or two.
hey all, I want to know, i can make really nice dagohir weapons, so if i brought them up to specs would any group be interested in buying? it would take a bit to get the process down pat, but i can do quite a bit. thanks
Anyone interested, your invited to the Delaware Dagorhir Chapter(NOD). Every sunday we host practice/battles from 1pm to when everyone is too tired. Leave me a message for more details if your interested.
This is a relaxed, casual practice; they're not going to necessarily be doing 100% at every moment. Could be whoever it was didn't see much threat to himself at the time.
To bend the pvc is very tricky from what I've heard, and if you're not careful it becomes brittle and won't last more than a few battles; as far as I know, the best way involves soaking it in boiling water (some say to put it directly over a heat source to make it pliable, but that results in brittleness. Do some research, I'm not sure.
thx man, i saw a tip on another vid about fillin the sword with sand while ur bendin it so it don't break on you. but i also seen the boilin tip alot. ill have to try things to see what works best
@knavecornbread I constructed a red katana, and the method I used to bend the PVC was by using a pre-bent metal rod and putting it inside the PVC, before heating the PVC (slowly) with a low-power torch. I was as even with the heat as possible, being careful not to burn the PVC. Once it was sufficiently heated, I let it cool on its own before removing the rod. My katana has lasted me two years, and through some intense fighting. (Hope this helped).
I just made the PVC I was gonna use into a bow. String it as if it was gonna be your bow, leave it like that for a week or two. When you unstring it, it has a good bend to it. That's how I make my scimitars.
@Locker344 Preheat your oven to 350 degrees and open the door. Put your length of pvc on the open door to the oven and wait 3-5 minutes. With oven mitts on, it's really easy to mold however you want, just make sure to keep it in the position while it cools. I've made katanas and kriss swords with this method and they've held up through hard use for over a year. I used a 3/4 in. pvc though. It's thicker, but a lot more stable.
@ostinius thx i think that is the most helpful so far. i tried makin a kopesh using a small lighter to heat where i wanted to bend it but it made weak spots and one solid hit to a helmet and it broke
hmmm.. in eryndor our meatgrinders are different. instead we form 2 lines of people, where the people in the front duel, then whoever loses goes to the winnner's line, until there's only one line left.
Nice stuff guys.

when I was a kid we used sticks off a tree to do this, then we upgraded to kendo sticks, foam takes the fun out of it.

aileanjeune 1 year ago
@aileanjeune the color systems dictate the damage of the weapon For example
Red= 2 handed weapon = ignores armor
blue= 1 handed weapon = 2 hits to go through armor

What cores are they using for their reds?
I can never get pvc to work well. Is it bandshop?
And whats the length on them?
Tehy don't look minimum, are they 50"?
GodxOfxYours 2 years ago
Never use PVC core for red. Use bandshoppe. It's worth it to make one good red rather than like 5 that will break after 1 or 2 practices.
bolo2005 2 years ago
@GodxOfxYours for great swords and pollarms you should consider using bamboo, it's light and strong.

@danalinesmahoney i make all my poles out of bamboo and i've never had one break, but i keep it restricted to about 6-7 feet long.

the reason for a backhanded hold on the sword is a to attack a diffrent way its part of Form 8 but it only works if you use it the right way

i got a curved sword now. pvc is not that unstable actually it bent really easy after a bit o heating

exactly why not to hold the sword like he does. Offers no defense, minimal attack. It also does not intimidate people.
