no u do not need a computer to setup the 3gx its plug and play

but with a computer u can refine the settings as u want

software is included by the 3gx system so u dont need to buy it

i think it is safer but you don´t need to use an external bec but for me i ihink its better and its more powerfull than the bec of the stock esc
