@imred3345l It sounds like you have music you downloaded via Zune Pass, but aren't currently a Zune Pass subscriber. The "fix" is to start paying for your Zune Pass again. :-)
I have the 30gb zune.. and its telling me that i need to update the zune firmware.. but the problem is that i dont have a cd drive on my computer and i have the cd.. i tried installing others but it says that my zune is connected soo idont know whats the problem and before it started acting up i had it on 3.0 firmware soo and it wasnt working

But my zune120 that i just bought came with the old dock/craddle, but the remote doesnt work, neither does the AV output. when i plug in the jack to the back of the dock/craddle & plug the other ends to my tv/stereo it dosent play the video & it dosent play the audio/music either.

I was experiencing a black screen for my Zune 80GB. I've had this device less than 2 years. I read that you should try to reset your firmware by pressing back and up, followed by back, pad, and play. I did so and I now have step 1 that says connect your player, step 2 says update the firmware. I called Zune help and they walked me through the process. To no avail, they informed me that we have exhausted our troubleshooting processes and that it was a harddrive issue.

Microsoft doesn't optimize their products for people that don't know how to take care of their hardware. I'm guessing you left it in a place for it to overheat.
I absolutel love my zune 80gb, but I've hated the zune software since the beginning, and this is the last straw! Ouch, sorry to hear you're having such trouble with it. Try this: uninstall the Zune software, reboot, Google for something called Unzoone, run that, reboot, then go to the Zune Web site and download the 3.0 version, and try a fresh install. I've installed the 3.0 software on five different computers and have had zero problems, so it's got to be something with your PC...

Did she have you hard reset the Zune to restore it back to the original firmware? If that didn't work, then you have a defective Zune, and they should have replaced it for you (if it was still under warranty...which it would have to be since it's a Zune 80).

Any Really super smart people that can fix this. I have factory reset the zune, both hard ware and software it is impossible to access the zune and delete the firmware, it is impossible to get the zune to install it itself, you can only do I've via the uber crap zune software which gives this errror. I know how you feel: until the Zune was available in Canada (just last month), I had to do the same thing...ship my defective Zune back to the USA, get it fixed, then have my friend ship it back to me.
ok i had this same problem so im guessing your zune is in recovery mode in step 1
if these is right do these (by doing these you will erase all your content)
1st do a hard reset by holding left and up, and whene your screen goes black hold down left center and play keep holding and after the zune logo shows up your zune will go to step 3 where it says please wait do not let go of the bottons after that it will go to step 4 where it will say clearing content
after is finish it will go back to step 1 (if it goes to step 5 right after step 3 do the hard reset again until goes to step 4 clering content)
now take your zune and plug it in your pc
you have to use a desktop cuz laptop wont work and you have to plug it in the back not in the front usb open your zune software and try to do the update if it doesnt work dont give up try again mine took a lot of hard resets until i got it working again

It's a bit hard to understand your description, but unfortunately it sounds like it might be defective hardware - which is a problem for you because there's no warranty service in Mexico. You can try calling tech support (1-877-438-9863) and they should give you help over the phone, perhaps there's a way to restore it - just don't mention where you are right away. ;-)

Correct - apparently it's a hardware failure. The default EQ sounds really good, so I honestly haven't found it to be a problem, but it is something to be aware of.

It could be a lot of things - this is on your Zune, correct? Remove the items from your Zune, then put them back on - that should get them working again.

It could be any number of things - anti-virus software, a corrupt download of the Zune software, some other problem with your PC. Why not call Zune tech support? 1-877-438-9863. It's free. :-)

That's a 26" Dell LCD TV - it works as a computer monitor, but it's fairly low-resolution, so it's my Windows Media Center TV for the most part...but it also runs the Zune software.

WiFi on the Zune? Maybe to buy music - but without a keyboard or a touch-screen, I doubt you'll see an Internet browser, email client, etc. The Zune 80 is not meant to compete with the iPod Touch, it competes with the iPod Classic.

Yeah, I haven't been able to get that to happen again - it's VERY bizarre that it happened in the first place though, because when the Zune is connected in the dock, you can't force it to play videos...so it's not like I made it play that video. Very strange!

Hey, I have a Question. I have a Zune 80. I went to setting then about, It tell's me I have songs,video,and pictures, Now my question is, I count how many video i have and it's 21 but when i check on my setting then about it said 30. I Erase the ones that came on it, It doesn't show on my zune video, so i guess it's still there. how can i completly erase them?
I am having the same problem as well. I called Zune support, but the person the spoke to knew crap about the Zune. So I returned it back for a refund and wait until everything is stabled.
i got mine friday, and have had so many freakin error codes and problems, and today i take it back to the store, to return it, where i know that there are no more..
Damnit, i can't wait to open my zune 80, i just got one at Wal-mart, but i can't use it until December 18th, at least i was able to see it, it's actually a lot smaller than i thought, the videos of it make it look a lot bigger.

Hello, Im from mexico and my boyfriend gift me the zune 80 gb, first worked if, when fully discharge it began to bear the USB cable connected, and fails to ignite, takes 2 days connected and can not do work or he do anything, this black screen ... a solution?

It's a bit hard to understand your description, but unfortunately it sounds like it might be defective hardware - which is a problem for you because there's no warranty service in Mexico. You can try calling tech support (1-877-438-9863) and they should give you help over the phone, perhaps there's a way to restore it - just don't mention where you are right away. ;-)

i had this same problem it took me 3 times to get it updated, but after a couple hours it went back to recovery mode and ask me to updated it so i try to doit again but this tima it gave me a diferent error code witch is c00d124f i look on the zune website and there is no solution i try everything from uninstalling the zune software try it on different pc, hard reset nothing seems to fix these and it all started with the update DAMN U MICROSOFT!!!!!!!!!!!

well i did hard reset like 100 times and every time the zune will only go to step 3 and the right back to 1 so when i was about to give up i try 1 last hard reset but this time i did it different i held down left and up and when zune reboot i held down left center and play but i did it befor the zune logo show up and i kept holding and that took me to step 4 where it saids clearing content
then it went to step 1, at this point i took my zune and plugit on a different pc

The Zune 80 screen is bigger than the iPod Classic screen, but smaller than the iPod Touch screen.

can someone help me out with a serious problem i am having with my zune30 and the 2.5 device firmware update? i am getting the exact same error code that occured in this video. it's been more than a week since it happened, my zune was stuck in that restore mode, and eventually it ran out of batteries. everytime i go to charge it, it goes rite back to that stupid screen, the same screen u saw in this video when the error code came up for you. i tried all the torubleshoot options. help! :(

Uninstall the Zune software, download the latest version and install it, then hard-reset your Zune and re-create the partnership.

You can only use an EQ on the original Zune 30 - the Zune 80 and Zune 4/8 don't have an EQ.

Correct - apparently it's a hardware failure. The default EQ sounds really good, so I honestly haven't found it to be a problem, but it is something to be aware of.

It's pretty much impossible to eliminate all reflections on a glossy screen like the Zune. So deal with it. :-)

It could be a lot of things - this is on your Zune, correct? Remove the items from your Zune, then put them back on - that should get them working again.

Of course it works with Vista - I have it on all my systems and it works great. You're correct about it not working on the Mac though.

It could be any number of things - anti-virus software, a corrupt download of the Zune software, some other problem with your PC. Why not call Zune tech support? 1-877-438-9863. It's free. :-)

That's a 26" Dell LCD TV - it works as a computer monitor, but it's fairly low-resolution, so it's my Windows Media Center TV for the most part...but it also runs the Zune software.

Yes, it will work fine - you'll have some issues purchasing music from the Zune Marketplace though. Go to Zune Thoughts (my Web site) and check out the "International Zune Users Guide" at the top...it has everything you need.

If you want to delete a zune from your computer, then plug in the zune that you dont want. and go to settings then device than click forget this device.

Anyone have a problem using the Zune 80 with Windows XP SP 2 32 or 64 bit? I heard if you are not running XP Media Edition you will run into problems. I am interested in getting a Zune 80.

WiFi on the Zune? Maybe to buy music - but without a keyboard or a touch-screen, I doubt you'll see an Internet browser, email client, etc. The Zune 80 is not meant to compete with the iPod Touch, it competes with the iPod Classic.

Yes, the Zune software runs on Windows XP. What it won't do on Windows XP though is support DVR-MS (Media Center recordings).

Unless you checked the article, (Im gonna see it now) i could tell you that syncing your zune should be fine.
You will NOT be able to buy music on the marketplace
You will have no support, so if it breaks, youre on your own
otherwise it should be fine...

Yeah, my Zune 80 doesn't have a screensaver. Instead what it was(the thing in the video) was just a video. I don't know though.

Yeah, I haven't been able to get that to happen again - it's VERY bizarre that it happened in the first place though, because when the Zune is connected in the dock, you can't force it to play videos...so it's not like I made it play that video. Very strange!

You'll need to Google how to do a registry hack in order to get the Zune to show up as a local storage drive - it won't do it natively.

I went to setting then about, It tell's me I have songs,video,and pictures, Now my question is, I count how many video i have and it's 21 but when i check on my setting then about it said 30. I Erase the ones that came on it, It doesn't show on my zune video, so i guess it's still there. how can i completly erase them?

It sounds like you might need to wipe out all the content on your Zune and re-load it properly. Look in the Zune software settings.

I am having the same problem as well. I called Zune support, but the person the spoke to knew crap about the Zune. So I returned it back for a refund and wait until everything is stabled.
